He did that like once very early on. I saw the game again. He was once again good when he got the ball, playing intellugent passes or providing good goal threat from difficult angles. I don't think he's out form at all, he's jugs not getting good enough service due to the wingers being poor right now.

Also,I don't think he and Rooney are clicking too well. They have good moments like Rooney playing a great long pass in response to a good Rvp run but I still they need to link up better. The way Torres and Gerrard used to link up is something these two should be capable of but were not seeing much of it. They seem to be too far apart most of the time which doesn't help.

Agree on your observations about the RvP-Rooney partnership, but I'd venture they haven't actually played together a great deal in the last six months or so.

They just seem very hesitant to pass it quickly to each other. They're both such intelligent footballers their interplay should be a lot better. Hopefully with time it gets better.

I think your point about them being quite far apart on the pitch is a contributing factor. Since RvP signed, Rooney has spent a lot of time in deeper areas, and that's not conducive to striking up a partnership.

Moyes has said that Rooney is going to play consistently in the hole, so that augurs well for the partnership. The best strike partnerships, whether it's two strikers or one striker and a number 10, tend to flourish when they play within around 10-15 yards of one another; Rooney and RvP haven't done that yet.

It's funny how he keeps scoring some sublime goals but manages to miss some absolute sitters.

Funny thing is, he isn't even in good form. He's scored goals but his overall play has not been great, if we can get him and Rooney in form our attack will be incredible!

That skill at the start of that counter attack when Valencia scored was ridiculous, he took few players out of game and passed nice ball for Young, can someone make a gif of that?

I said it after Palace, he's not really at the races at the moment - RvP is capable of far more than what he's producing.

I totally agree with you, but 6 goals in 6 games is a tremendous return regardless.

Yep - it's great that he's hit the goal trail despite not being at his best.

You know when he's not humming, because he starts getting stroppy.

Definately, I could see a second card coming, luckily enough it didn't.

I thought this was his best performance since Swansea, but I am bit worried about him getting into fights with referees, this was second game this season he is hanging on red card for stupid things.

Brilliant from Rooney in that he reads it beautifully and gets forward ASAP not hesitating a bit. True United play. :D

Read that it was only RVP's 2nd goal at the Stretford End of the ground and his 14th at Old Trafford in total. Meaning he's scored 22 goals away from home. Surprised me a little bit. Who was his other goal at the SE against? Can't think.

Stoke.

How can we have two forwards like RvP and Rooney yet just complete guff behind them?

I don't think he'd have much difference to the result today.

Because our creative players are shit, and there's not much someone like RVP can do if he doesn't get chances. We still rely on crosses as our main form of chance creating. Our central midfielders are not creative players.

Really hope the training hasn't changed that much from last season and he is now going to start getting injured under Moyes.

I don't think he'd have changed much in the sense that City were on full throttle and they were cutting through our midfield like butter and getting possession back really quickly, but at the other end of the pitch, he would've made a small difference: Danny just wasn't in the game and doesn't yet have the experience to lead the line or instill fear within an opposition's backline. This allowed Kompany to follow Rooney everywear and mark him out of the game despite his best efforts. Had RvP been on the pitch, either Kompany wouldn't have had that luxury, and Rooney probably would've had more space between midfield and attack, either Kompany would've done the same but there would've been openings that a player of RvP's intelligence could've exploited (and which Welbeck didn't). But again, there was a class apart between the two teams and it wasn't down to Welbeck, so I agree it wouldn't have made much difference.

Do you think he wishes he was at Arsenal now (based on the fact we're in transition and he's not getting any younger)

I think he's glad he came and won the league with us. Arsenal might be playing well but they aren't guaranteed to win anything this season.

No, just cuz Arsenal have won a few games don't make them much better or even title favourites, but agree we are in transition now.

Not better but do you think he enjoys his football, as in he barely touches the ball at times for us in certain games whereas he was pretty much guaranteed to be involved with Arsenal's play alot more. He might be just content with goal-scoring, but he did strike me as a guy who the style of football mattered to but perhaps I'm wrong on that call.

I think he does, i've seen him track back, in fact at times he looks too committed to the point where i think he is gonna get a yellow/red card but i guess he was the same at Arsenal.

I do worry about RVP at the moment.

I think Fergies departure might have hurt him more than most in the squad.

He left a club where he was a hero and a big reason was Fergie, and he only got one year with him.

His chance conversion stats must be very high at the moment cos he gets about 2 shots a game max. We.Are.Creating.Nothing.

If our poor passing and inability to play through balls continues I can see Van Persie becoming more and more frustrated. He must be wondering how he went from having Cesc slip balls through to him regularly to running around chasing aimless crosses.

Genuinely feel for him (and Hernandez). At the moment the number 9s task at United seems to be to defend from the front and nothing more.
