Robin van Persie | 2012-14 Performances

On Match of the Day, I heard the commentator say, "Robin van Persie, very unusually for him, is rather heated here," or something along those lines.

What utter bollocks - Robin has always had a bit of a nasty streak and it's one of the main reasons many of us hated him when he played for Arsenal. Fortunately he managed to keep himself in line at Anfield so he won't be missing any matches due to a daft red card, but I think half time came at the perfect moment for him.

I thought it was obvious that he was frustrated on Sunday and against Chelsea the week before. But a lack of service will do that.

I always remember a 90-minute spat he had with Tim Krul in a game for Arsenal vs. Newcastle... it was hilarious.

But yeah, he can be a bit of a nasty bastard our Robin, he put in loads of tasty challenges last year - so it's not exactly new news.

He's a big admirer of Giggs judging by his interviews.

That article is a pile of turd.

Well it is the Daily Star granted, but Van Persie does not look himself at all. It's no secret how well he got on with Ferguson but also Rene Meulensteen. Both are gone and if I'm honest I'm fairly sceptical about Moyes' training methods myself. He's big on fitness yes, but Meulensteen is a brilliant technical coach who was a big influence on a whole generation of players such as Cleverley, Welbeck, Ronaldo and Rooney etc. I can't see that input being replaced anywhere and Van Persie is someone who is always looking to improve his ability. He was very outspoken last season in his praise for Meulensteen's training methods.

He'll be fine. Won't be long till we see performances like his vs Swansea again. He'll probably rip apart Crystal Palace.

His team were losing, he was isolated (and, sometimes, this also happened under SAF's management) and Liverpool players were deliberately winding him up. Add to that a weak referee & a crowd of gonks; it's no wonder RVP was pissed off. Nothing to do with Moyes' management.

These journalists can make up what they want out of the slightest bit of loose material they can find and get away with it. It's a bit like saying Gerrard only called van Persie a "fecking prick" because he had found him in bed with his wife only that morning! I should have written an article about that!

This is exactly what THEY (rival fans, newspapers, etc.) want. Moyes has had it very tough in the first weeks, with some of these fabrications. I'm not a fan of Moyes on one thing at the moment, and that's the lack of faith he has in Evra IMO, but I've also had issues with how the transfers have been handled, i.e., the futile pursuits of Fabregas. Other than that, it's too early to make any "safe" judgements. I did read a stat that we have played more long balls than last season, which coincides with his previous regiment, however, I'd like to judge his set of tactics and the general attitude after 10 games. I should probably have posted this in the Moyes thread, but at first glance the Van Persie conflict seemed like a fabrication. Even regarding the training regime, why complain now when we're three games in? Makes no sense.

I'd go as far to say that it's actually a good sign he was annoyed, and not just shrugging his shoulders thinking 'ah well, there's always next week.'

A gooner defending RvP? I've seen it all now.

Who will win?

I think our last 2 games are making people forget what this guy is all about. All the better for me, now I don't need to share Robin's babies.

He's just saying what he's supposed to say. I doubt his attitude at the weekend is any reflection on his overall attitude with the club but that interview tells us nothing. It might as well have been written by a United press officer.

Scored a vital penalty in the 3rd minute of injury-time for Holland yesterday. But, yeah, 'no bottle on the biggest stages'. ;)
