Quite game from him today, didn't match his performance from the first leg sadly. At least with us being out of Europe now he should be fresher for the rest of our games

Difference between ourselves and Madrid over the two legs, Ronaldo took his chances, van Persie did not. Needs a rest I'd say, the magnificent bastard.

He needs a rest. He has played too many games and looks pretty knackered. Since the West Ham is postponed, I am guessing we will play them after the game against Reading. I want him to rest till after we play Reading. I feel Hernandez deserves to start the next two and since they are both at home, I don't see why not.

Not criticising you lads who say Persie needs a rest. I just find it funny that some posters thought I was silly for suggesting the very same thing.

Seems to have forgotten how to connect with a ball since the beginning of the first leg. Ray ban persin, pls.

I'd say he has been poor for about 6 weeks, but he will always get a chance and he has even chipped in with a couple during that time, would back him to start banging them in again soon.

Quality player. Can't work miricles and is only human.

Earned us more points than a Chelsea speed
Camera, so go feck yourselves.

Isn't this the first time he's been with a club that had a chance in Europe?

To be fair I think he was part of a squad that reached the final, although I can't remember if he played at all that night.

Is Pete actually Piers Morgan the tnuc. #InArseneWeRust

But i must admit hes been quiet as of late and practically silent tonight but feck it wasnt unusual for Ronaldo to go missing in CL ties when he was netting in 40+ for the season with us.

CL KO Games are a lot tighter. They are one offs. Best players dont usually steal the show if you ask me especially in massive games like tonight. Had some chances tho and Diego Lopez is probably the man to look at as some of his saves tonight were superb.

As someone said tho even tho hes not been scoring hes been in there with the assists and shit. Not like hes pulled a fecking torres and turned into a streak of piss by any means. Will be good to see him net again for sure.

I think the hard season has caught up with RvP at moment and he's just lost his form, which more than likely would have made a difference in this tie - would not surprise me if he's given a break soon...

I don't understand the criticism at all, we gave him next to no service. In both ties he at best got hopeful balls that he had to scrap and battle for just to get hold of. Then he's surrounded with little support.

There's no point buying RVP and playing him like he's Kevin Davies.

You think we should make an audacious bid for Kevin Davies?

I'm not sure audacious and Kevin Davies should ever again be used in the same sentence.

But how do we expect RVP to play as a lone striker, against that quality of defender when his team has so little possession. He's had such a good start that people are starting to expect the unrealistic. Like any striker he needs good service. I thought he did well when given half a chance but most of the time he was trying to make the best of a bad situation.

He's does well nearly every time he has the ball and doesn't give away possession easily or break down attacks. His 'poor form' is just a lack of goals, which isn't necessarily his fault, he's not a detriment to the team or anything.

United had about 35% possession. What striker does well when he has very little service?

He looks a little bit unfit. Not his fault to be fair, he's used to having the season finished by March. It'll take a little bit more time to take the "Arsenal" out of him.

Well possession didn't have much to do with him mishitting shots. He generally does well with those chances but in the past month he has missed chances which you wouldn't normally expect from him. He has still been good, just not as good as he was earlier. Don't think it has anything to do with fitness tbh. He will soon be back to his old form.

He didn't exactly shine in the two contests in a way which I was expecting him to. Was quite disappointing to be honest. He has featured in all our PL games and 36 of the 42 we have played this season. Won't be a bad idea to give him a little rest. We don't need to start him in the next two at home are against Chelsea and Reading.

He's been magnificent this season, yet I still don't think he's been as good as he was during his last couple of seasons at Arsenal. I still amazes me that some of our fans didn't want him.

:D I want to post Evra's "it's over" hand gesture .gif for this

He hasn't been at his best for a few games but I still think he's showing quality leading the line. He has a great ability to pick a long ball out of the air, control and then be able to turn away from his man and carry the ball forward. That really helps in these games where we are looking to play on the counter and him being able to give that to us is a good bonus.

Reckon he could do with a little rest personally but I guess we may as well play him against Chelsea and then try and rest him from there for a game or so.

I think Pete is more than entitled to have a pop. Considering the flak he gets from us. But that said Pete, if we do win the league surely you will concede its down largely to RVP?

 well done sir

That said, I think he was underwhelming in both ties. Easily outperformed by Welbeck.

Without RVP's leading the line, Welbeck couldnt have played as he did. The only dissappointing part was that RVP didnt finish one or two of his chances and half chances over the two legs. In the premier league he probably would have

Totally agree. Rvps play with back to goal was crucial to our whole gameplan. Like I said often, many of welbecks bursts came from Rvp holding the ball, keeping it and putting welbeck into space. And yes his finishing was a bit disappointing but I guess he's a due a short blip in relation to that.
