Never forget the "we don't need him" brigade.

He's already by far the best player in the team. We need more players of that calibre and always will.

It was hard not to get excited about it once it happened but up to that point I thought the money could have been better spent elsewhere.

The part about playing with Bergkamp & Henry made for painful viewing...
What did he say? Loyal players like Bergkamp and Henry stuck around and won things with Arsenal instead of fecking off for the money like me?

They stuck around and won things because the team was capable of winning things, RVP could have stuck around till doomsday but in the current context of your team winning anything legit is still appears to be in the future. So you can still put it down to money, but RVP leaving is so that at the end of his career he has something to show for it.

Can't wait to see your reaction when Wilshire goes Pete. It will be a few years yet as he clearly loves the club, but if you don't win.. It will happen. Sad but true.

I reckon I'd have Ruud over RVP. He was a machine. An absolutely ridiculous array of finishing and he could score a goal from virtually anywhere in the box. I'd like to think that if RVP continues they was he has started and sustains it for 3 maybe 4 seasons he'd be up there with Ruud. Real shame that Ruud never won more with us.

This current team needs van Persie type of player more than Ruud. He's more capable of creating something out of nothing and with our wingers playing below their usual level and our midfield being decent at best, Ruud wouldn't get much service.

Let peterstorey be as delusional as the Scousers.RVP should have stayed at Arsenal and play with those teammates ... Right, in Alice's wonderland surely

I wasn't overly for us going in for RVP, mainly as I thought he'd resume his old injury record as soon as we got him. Superb signing though.

Yep, Van Persie is going to be upset to miss out on all those Arsenal trophies he could have won...

...especially the Emirates Cup, I predict he'll never win that one again!

If you watch that SkySports interview, he'll tell you that most of his injuries were impact injuries. The discussion surrounding his injury record, like everything else, needs a bit of perspective.

Speaking of said interview. What a guy! So classy and articulated.

About time he had another 'impact injury' - preferably with a 5-ton truck travelling at 70mph.

Never say no to one of the best players in the world at his absolute peak. It is a rule for life.

I watched the whole interview. He has a brilliant football brain, really understands his position and he is passionate about it. Little wonder he is as good as he is.

As for the Gooner, he would still be at Arsenal if you actually challenged. He did his bit last season and the rest did not do theirs. Except Song. He was a revelation. At least you still have him.

He is clearly intimating that we are a club with a champion mentality amongst the players, whereas at Arsenal that wasn't there. He's just glad to now be surrounded by winners and is so impressed at how things operate at United.

Watch it - if you were anybody else you would be banned for stuff like that. Calm.

It's just playful banter, he's just doing the old scorned ex-wife routine for our amusement.

Heaven has no rage like love to hatred turned,
Nor hell a fury like a woman scorned

By the way, it's maybe already been posted, but there was a Skysports exclusive where he's interviewed (link here), just started watching it but I love how he talks about Giggs and Scholes, so much respect and childlike admiration.

He also gives interesting interviews and is respectful of the interviewer, not the mundane, stereotypical, half-arsed stuff players usually come out with in these type of interviews. He's a footballer you actually want to hear speak because he's so intelligent.

Hopefully we'll establish some sort of ex-United super-punditry team with van Persie leading it all. Though I suspect he'll give management a go at some point.

No offense but you guys actually had a great team back then and were signing big players and your team was capably of challenging for titles on all fronts.

If Henry was in his prime at Arsenal now, he'd leave too.

Aye, I'm not sure why the media feel the need to make RVP justify leaving Arsenal. They won't win another title for a long, long time. Were they like this with Fabregas, Nasri & Song? I don't think so.

Finished watching that interview, you should definitely look at it if you haven't already, very interesting, he's articulate, is incredibly respectful of Arsenal and Wenger and just seems to be having such a good time at the moment, it's great.

I just watched the full interview. Very humble player and I liked his take on the fans booing him. Have even more respect for him.
