a player at his peak of his career. hope he can stay healthy for the next few years to come. given that his game has never been about pace he could play well into his mid 30s

All he needs is one chance. There hasn't been alot of service to him today but its expected without our wingers and Rooney.

I hope Kagawa and Welbeck can put it together in the second half and provide him with some opportunities.

Between his epic interview before the game and then putting us in-front, I'm suffering from a bit of man-love right now. What a player.

He is as clinical as they get. Have we had a player like this before? I remember Ruud, but even he needed chances before he put some away.

C'mon now lol. You could say that about cole - though he became a top forward but Ruud was clinical. Ruuds only flaw - other then his performances in his last season, was his shooting from outside the box

Is this really the first season he's scored more than one header?

Cristiano Ronaldo dos Santos Aveiro.

Ronaldo tended to take a lot more shots though. Van Persie's approaching van Nistelrooy levels of efficiency - and he pretty much never scores a poor goal.

I thought the service to him was poor today. Other than the goal he really wasn't given many other chances. Superbly taken goal as usual though.

I just wish we could get a winger (e.g. Nani) on form to give him a steady supply of clear chances. Rooney is also supposed to be helping out but it will probably take him another 3 matches to get in form again.

How many offsides today for RvP? 5?

I was about to say the same thing. Couldn't believe a player of his class was getting so far offside so often. That's usually Hernandez's job.

Didn't think he was actually called offside that much, his position was horrendous though, there were a lot of times where if the United player had actually put the ball forward he would have been off.

That interview with Sky is well worth a watch if you haven't seen it all.

I genuinely think he'll captain us for a season before he leaves.

He's class. Seems to be one of very few players who breaks the mould in terms of interviews. Clearly pretty intelligent and reads the game well. I like how he names people directly, it's refreshing. So many players just play safe and talk about the team and act overly humble. Great watch.

Apart from well taken goal, he was frustrating as hell with his offsides.

The part about playing with Bergkamp & Henry made for painful viewing...

Think you might need a refresher.

@1:43 - Ball going left but outer foot finish to the bottom corner. Ridiculous finish.

There's definitely some similarities in their game. I like how both always seem to be able to finish off those half-chances. Just hit the ball at us in the box, no problem we'll finish it. How they manufacture space in the box is uncanny as well. RVP's goal against Liverpool is pure textbox in striker movement. One moment he's running right, Agger gets drawn in and he makes a sudden change in direction. By the time the cross comes in he has already gained half a yard for the shot.

RVP is orgasmic, but lets not get all gimpy and put him above Ruud in our pantheon just yet after not even one whole season. He's certainly a better all round build up player, but best striker we've seen at OT etc etc?

Calm down, calm down. Give it time to settle. Your knee might feel looser in the morning.

I reckon I'd have Ruud over RVP. He was a machine. An absolutely ridiculous array of finishing and he could score a goal from virtually anywhere in the box. I'd like to think that if RVP continues they was he has started and sustains it for 3 maybe 4 seasons he'd be up there with Ruud. Real shame that Ruud never won more with us.

I miss Ruud horrendously all of a sudden.

I was 8 or 9 when he joined I think, he was my first legitimate United hero.

Deserved a Champions League medal.

He was my favorite player growing up. It is a shame Ruud didn't win more when he was with us, but glad that he has made up with SAF and the club now.

The goal against Fulham, that last touch before the finish in that goal! The man gave us many unforgettable moments!

I am hoping RVP would become somewhat of a cross between Cantona and RVN. He can be the talisman who leads this young bunch to glory along with the other seniors and hopefully helps in instilling the winning mentality in them. And of course his goals can keep coming just like it did with RVN.

Why aren't you posting in the draft thread?

Also, if RVP can just score the goals like RVN did, we will easily win the league. I still wonder what happened to our team in the early RVN seasons. Later we started rebuilding, but that early team should have kept winning.

 That Ruud compilation is amazing. He truly was a finishing monster, a very good variety of goals. The last goal of the video is something else, on the left foot even ..
