All those feckers on Redcafe are going in meltdown right now. first of all RVP was a average player according to them and right now he is their Messi. shamless fans

From an Arsenal forum ,I think they could be a little upset.

Valencia is a completely different players than Gattuso and could never play the same role, to begin with. Fletcher or Anderson potentially could but I doubt it.

Gattuso was just a limited but very hard working and industrious player who was tasked with dominating the right side.

Valencia offers something slightly different with the same hard work and industry.

Arsenal fan Piers Morgan tonight branded Robin Van Persie’s move to Manchester United a “betrayal”.

The Dutch striker had been at the centre of this year’s biggest transfer saga after he refused to sign a new contract.

United have splashed out £22million and will pay him £200,000 a week - up from £80,000 at the Emirates Stadium.

Piers posted on Twitter: “Funny, I really thought @Persie_Official was different. But he turned out to be just another mercenary, heartless, selfish little s**t.”

The CNN host, 47, added: “What a sickening betrayal of Wenger too - the man who stood so loyally behind @Persie_Official through years of injury. #VanPursestrings”

He also brought the Gunners' chief executive into the mix by tweeting: "Well done, Ivan Gazidis, a great bit of 'business' - selling #Arsenal 's top player to our bitter rivals. Shame on you & the whole board."

But Piers was later gently ribbed online by Van Persie’s new teammates Wayne Rooney and Rio Ferdinand.

Wayne, 26, posted on Twitter: “Arrrrr poor piers. @piersmorgan whats up now big man”.

Piers hit back by responding to Wayne: “I’m fine, thanks, No2 striker at Old Trafford”.

Rio, 33, added on Twitter: “Hahahahahaha #TearsForPiers quickest RT of a tweet I have seen so far! 5000+ in 20mins!”

Even Olympics star Usain Bolt, who has asked for a trial at Manchester United, joined in by retweeting Rio's comments, to which Piers replied: "Et tu, Usain?"

And QPR midfielder Joey Barton tweeted: "can't blame him for wanting to win trophies, surely Piersy?"

Meanwhile jockey AP McCoy added: “Gutted van Persie is going 2 utd good player but if he doesn’t want 2 play for arsenal then it was best 2 get rid of him R.I.P RVP."

Must admit I'm a bit bitter about this one but at the same time quite relieved he has finally fecked off, not because he joined your lot because in a weird way prefer that to Man City but more at him. Stuck with him through all his disciplinary problems, rape case and injuries and after 1.5 good seasons suddenly this club no longer matched his ambition.

It is ironic that people here moan about mercenary cnuts, well you've just signed one! Then again most footballers aren't much better so I shouldn't be surprised. The fee is rumoured to be £22.5mill rising to £24mill and I don't understand why your lot spent that much on him when a striker is the last thing I would of thought your squad needs but Fergie knows better than me I suppose....

I wonder if we'll ever see an AC Milan 4-1-2-1-2

AC_Milan_2003_shevchenko_inzaghi_pirlo_rui_costa_maldini.jpg

Van Persie in Inzaghi's role.
Rooney in Shevchenko's.
Kagawa in Rui Costa's/Kaka's role.
Cleverely or Anderson in Seedorf's role.
Carrick in Pirlo's
Valencia in Gattuso's, covering the right-back (Rafael) and bombing forward to the right.

Val wouldn't fit there, Gattuso had to tackle opponents, do the harrasing and basic passing, not bombing forward with the ball, dribbling past players and providing crosses. Even Tony couldn't do that for 90 minutes. I thought it's enough to look at it to know that straight away.

Apart from that it's nice.

I don't think anyone ever doubted his ability, they just doubted whether we actually needed him and whether he would be worth his fee. Some are still saying that in all fairness.

I reckon if they check any of our old van Persie threads many of us praised him a hell of a lot

I don't see why people see age as a huge problem here. Real bought Zidane for €65m and Figo for €56m when they were 29 and 28 respectively, I'd argue that both were sensational transfers. Big clubs have been doing it for a long time, buying top players in their prime.

Nah! the grey haired old bastard got shagged out at the Arse last season and the Euro's over the summer so I'll be surprised if he gets off the bench.

I was his biggest doubter till 2009. He's only now earned the reputation he's had for a long long time and now he does deserve it.

A-M-A-Z-I-N-G

Seriously though, when was the last time you were this excited about a transfer? I genuinely cannot think of one.

Rooney, probably. Anyway, I'd say this transfer's as surprising as the Cantona and Cole purchases... I doubt anyone would've predicted it a few weeks back, that's for sure.

He has come here to win trophies, Arsenal would have paid him the earth to stay but he has ambition. Hardly a mercenary.

Why do people keep pretending Van Persie's only been good for a couple of seasons? He was widely considered one of the best/most talented players in the league almost half a decade ago. Considered by many Arsenal fans to be at the same level as Torres and Rooney 3 years ago.

This is what Pete said but I would expect better from you as you're one of those sane Arsenal fans. Think about it once again, I suppose. You haven't won the bloody thing in what 8 years? the guy is coming to 30 and doesn't have anything to show for it basically.

Is that so difficult?

Don't see what all the fuss is about with Arsenal fans. We sold them Silvestre. A world class defender with 5 prem medals on the cheap, and helped sort them out. Now they're crying when a player whose won nothing for 7 years wants to join one of the best club sides ever.

He was at a club who hasn't won a trophy in 7 years. He's 29 years old and wants to win trophies. He'd have earned more money at City I'm sure of.

He's hardly a mercenary.

Ok, an inverted version with Valencia performing the Seedorf role except on the right.

And Cleverley or Anderson filling the Gattuso role but from the left.

I just fecking love that team and formation.

now this is brilliant!

He isn't really a mercenary is he? Yeah Nasri might be, but Robin isn't. Unless absolutely anyone that leaves any club of their own volition is a mercenary. But then that is the way football fans think.

RVP will fail the medical. He's got a damaged back from carrying a full squad last season.

I am a new twitter member and I have seen this joke about a million times on it today.

I am now cancelling my account. It's shit

Expect Arsenal lads here, mainly Pete, to suddenly completely change their minds about RVP's quality.

'He's only had 1 good year' or sth like that.

So, how many have called up their Arsenal friends and sung "He leaves when he wants" so far?

Any player leaving a club for a better club is not a mercenary in my eyes, just ambitious. Robin is now at a bigger club, a better supported club, with a bigger stadium and a club where he has more chance of trophies, individual and as a team.
