MOTM imo. Scored our first, brilliant delivery for the second and almost scored two backheels. He is pure end product when it matters.

Anyone else think he might have been carrying a slight knock today?

He looked to me to not quite be playing with his usual eagerness. Didn't seem to get stuck in with as many challenges as usual, and looked a little slow off the mark at times. Obviously not critisising him, just something I wondered if anyone else picked up on?

I thought when he went in for that tackle on Johnson at the end he looked like he had a knock. Got kicked more today than he has against any other team this season so it's no surprise. Kagawa got fouled constantly as well. Liverpool's wonderfully attractive passing football eh?

Faded badly in the second half. Although that could have been as Carrick and Clev both ran out of steam and didnt provide him with balls anymore.

Still great goal and big game player

Not much service in the 2nd half. and after 75', we were just defending. Even so, got involved keeping the ball in their half in the last few min.

Think he got something minor in the first half.

He apparently had strapping on his hamstring.

I was thinking that in the first half.

Liverpool's 'tactics' to stop RVP today seemed to consist of 'kick him whenever possible'.

Yeah he clearly had that blue strapping behind both his legs. Wouldn't surprise me any if isn't quite 100% right now, certainly looked a bit leggy in the 2nd half. We basically haven't given him any rest over the Xmas period because we couldn't afford to with Rooney out.

Doubt he will be involved in the West Ham game, plenty of rest ready for Spurs.

Why do I get the feeling if Welbeck had fecked up two guilt edged chances by trying to be cute, you'd have a different assessment?

Because you have no idea what you're talking about?

If Welbeck had hit the target twice today I'd probably agree with him being MOTM.

Pure class again. Unlucky not to score a second and with his two audacious back heel flicks. Only he would try to pull that off in such a big match. Service to him wasn't the best though. We really need to get our wingers back in shape. Im hoping Nani will be the one to answer the call.

Well on course to match Ronaldo's 07/08. It's amazing how important the vast majority of his goals have been.

Another top class performance today. He got the loudest cheer around OT when the line-ups were read out. Manchester United's very own adopted son.

RVP gives me the feeling we can punch above our weight a little, win games we might not have. We'd obviously still be fighting for the title without him but I think the gap is down to him, and with him in the team you just never know in Europe, he gives us a shot.

Won us every big match this year. What a fecking signing.

The first time the backheel was all he could do, the ball was played well behind him.

He's one of those players that get's you wins even when you're playing poorly. Incredibly consistent, he's like having Ronaldo again, where you just knew that he'd most likely score every time he went onto the pitch, or he'd at least create a few chances out of nothing. Players like those are the reason why we are so far ahead, and have been so consistent results wise lately. He's dragging us through games when it looks like we're going to draw, or games we would draw or lose last season.

It's amazing we're doing so well considering we have no quality whatever on the wing. A traditional strength.

Simply amazing. Hard to say who is better between him & Rooney when both are playing well, but this guy just makes teams shit their pants. A special aura about him, for sure. Like Rooney, our other players seem to be better when he's on the pitch.

It would be amazing if he could match or surpass Ronaldo's record. Definitely a possibility but we'll need to do well in the FA Cup and Champions League.

Today the commentator made what I thought was a very good point.

He said that since RvP started playing as the main striker (ie the beginning of last season for Arsenal) he hasn't been injured. He hinted that its no coincidence because he's playing in a smaller portion of the pitch - therefore not running around so much - and it's easier to avoid injury.

He featured in all 38 of Arsenals PL games last season and unless I'm blanking, has featured in all of ours so far this season.

What do you think, is he on to something?

Yeah, that got me thinking as well. It sounds plausible I suppose but luck or lack of it also plays a big part.

Today is proof he also does it against the little teams and not just a big game raising player :)

I don't think so because he's played in behind the striker for us plenty of times and drifted from midfield to the wing to centre forward. He consistently drifts out wide left and rotates with Ashley Young when he's in that position. He does even more defensive work right up top than he did before too so I doubt he does much less running than before. Pete always said van Persie just had a series of unlucky injuries that were largely unrelated so I'm tempted to believe that's all there is to it.

He's pure class. Got that touch of magic and won us so many points this season it's ridiculous. I feel horrible for questioning whether we need him or not

He's just the complete forward. He's strong, he's technically sound and has a fantastic strike. His work-rate as a target player has surprised me now that I've been following him more closely.

A joy to watch.

His technique is fantastic IMO.
