Good article but there's no real way of knowing just how reliant we are on him, last season we got 89 points and the only players we've lost since have been Berbatov and Park who didn't really get much playing time. It's obvious he's made us a btter team and everything but if he was out for any length of time I'd still fancy us for the league with the poition we're in now with Rooney, Welbeck, Hernadez and Kagawa to fill in as well as Nani and Anderson returning soon.

I think if Vidic can get anywhere near his old form he could end up being just as important because of the number of goals we've been leaking, especially in the league. I do think we'd struggle in the Champions League without Van Persie though, just always feel he'll produce something in the big games regardless of the quality of the opposition, best big game player I can remember playing for us in a long time.

Can't believe I wasn't really too fussed whether we were going to sign him or not at one point, although I do think it probably had something to do with thinking he was off to City and not wanting to get my hopes up. Makes it even sweeter that those lot were so sure they were getting him.

They showed his and Suarezes stats side by side on SSN, and RVP shat all over him.

Suarez's minutes per shot is ridiculous. One shot every 19 mins? He must be the only striker given the license to shoot at Liverpool or he shoots the moment he has a clear sight on the opponent's goal regardless of the probability of scoring.

I'd echo all of that. RVP has been the man for us this season but if he wasn't there someone else would step up, we have plenty of quality.

We'd probably have fewer points were it not for Van Persie but then that's why we signed him. To improve our team. That's why anyone signs players. It's a concept opposition fans and the media seem to be struggling with at the minute.

We'd be shit without:
  • Robson
  • Cantona
  • Keane
  • Beckham
  • van Nistelrooy
  • Ronaldo

Something like that I guess.

We were a one man team with Rooney after Ronaldo left, even though we were a one man team with Ronaldo whilst both Ronaldo and Rooney were there together.

We've been a one man team with Rooney over the last few seasons, but now we're a one man team with RVP, even though Rooney is still there.

Tbf to people who say that (I don't know why I want to be fair to them) you could and probably would say, lots of clubs are 'one man teams'.

Liverpool with Suarez, I mean where would they be without him? Yet he's scored roughly the same amount of goals as Van Persie, scored their most important goals (like Van Persie) and both clubs would be around mid table, without their goals.

Ronaldo at Madrid, would they even score?

Then we have ''The Greatest Club Side To Have Ever Kicked An Object'' (not really) and Messi. Without Messi, on the face of it, Barcelona would be well and truly fecked. They'd have only scored about 15-20 goals, so far.

It's only when you dig a little deeper and apply a decent amount of logic to the situation, does it become apparent that these observations could be wrong.

I posted this in the Bluemoon thread, they back up your point very well.

Sir Alex: "RvP told me himself that he turned Man City down. Juventus made a massive offer to the boy. I thought they were our biggest threat."

Arsene Wenger: "It is painful to see Manchester United so far in front of us. You know when you sell RvP to United that will be the case."

It's funny how United are a one man team, almost every single season, irrespective of who leaves, stays or joins.

It's a bitter way of saying we are doing well. He has been at Arsneal for years and he never carried them so much that they were leading the premier league by 7 points either. You could argue that our team is better than the media (and city/liverpool fans) think, but of course that must be nonsense :smirk:

I found this comment really weird considering we still finished 19 points ahead of them last season when they had Robin.

15 different scorers in the PL. more than any other team. With goals coming from everywhere including 10 PL goals from our defenders this season.

Yet we're a one man team  The mind boggles.

The worst is the accusation that we'd be a mid table team without his goals/assists. Yeah right. Because we'd have been playing 10 men if we didn't sign him wouldn't we. Were we a mid table team last season without him? Were arsenal challenging for the title last season with him?

He has undoubtedly made a team that finished on equal points but inferior GD as last seasons champions better, and that's the bottom line. Hopefully it'll make the difference come May.

I'm surprised Juve were willing to offer £20m+ but if they had managed to pull that off they would've been up there with Bayern as one of the favourites for the CL. Just 13 goals conceded in the league and they've had more shots than any other team in the top European leagues but they desperately lack a top striker to convert those chances into goals. Giovinco's their top scorer with just 6 league goals. Llorente will do well for them but he's no van Persie.

Pirlo and RvP in the same team would be football porn. Or should I say would have been...considering all the rather delightful stuff he's done in a United shirt.

He's not the silky smooth, effortless grace with his first touch that you get with van Persie or Berbatov but he has a terrific touch all the same. That one v Newcastle when Tevez typically overhit a pass and he brought it under control with minimal fuss. Not as aesthetically pleasing but every bit as effective.

Yorke had 12 in 16 to begin with but then went 5 without scoring so had 12 in 21 at the same stage. Hit another great run of form and scored 21 in 28.

I hope we are getting some royalties from Arsenal due to them using one of our players in their merchandise:

Liverpool ARE in mid-table, even with Suárez.

And Liverpool fans can justifiably point out that they were really no worse before Suárez arrived, they were a 7-8th placed club as they are now. So they're not really a one-man team, see. Just a shite one.

I didn't pay him the same attention to him when he played for Arsenal, but was he this happy when he was there? He's always got a smile on his face.

True, though I've been hearing Pirlo's form has tailed off a bit this season? Pirlo does love playing those curled balls over the top that RvP thrives off of, guaranteed it would've led to a couple of really magical volleys.

Big game player with a touch of genius. The rest need to step up.
