I think he's on the same level as Ronaldo. There, I said it.

I think Ronaldos heading just edges him but his recent record is right up there. To think some people didn't want him...

That first goal of his  That's just screaming for a gif.

One of those players you never tire of watching. He could have had a hattrick. The way he won the ball from the wigan players in the final third, skipped past one and almost scored was briliant play. If he had scored there, it would been a fine goal.

I've said it before but he brings such assurance and confidence to our play. You always feel you have a chance with him in your team.

Still scratching my head on why didn't he show this kind of form during euro 2012...

that one play where he spun off the defender, sidestepped another before checking back on his left and just skimming the bar was brilliant, almost :drool:

he just seems untouchable out there, like he is just toying with defenders. A complete joy to watch.

This need a gif....

He's having the same effect that Ronaldo had in the 07-08 season. i.e. just winning games on his own through moments of genius almost every week.

Yep, very reminiscent for me.

At the end of the day he's matching Ronaldo's goal output while being a notably better passer and set piece taker. He's not that quite the all-round goalscoring threat in the sense that he can't score in as many different ways - lacking that searing pace to get in behind or that towering leap to score in the air - but give him the ball in and around the box and he's every bit as lethal, and he offers that bit more in the build-up.

That would've been an amazing goal. I expected him to score tbh!

He's just exquisite. In everything he does. He's also much better at holding the ball up than I thought, really strong physically when up against centre halves. He's got absolutely stacks to his game, he's everything you want in a complete striker. I think he can be even better though, he could be more selfish in front of goal if he wanted to.

You do know you're comparing the goal scoring prowess of a striker in his prime with a 22-23 year old winger.

I'm comparing two forwards in their prime - Van Persie contributes to the build-up every bit as much as Ronaldo these days and plays in roughly the same positions.

Ronaldo wasn't a 'real' winger anyway, I mean he wasn't one with the usual defensive responsibilities. It made sense to give him that freedom since he was so fecking good at attacking.
Him being a winger has never made me more impressed about his play or goalscoring, it was the best position.Up front he'd too restricted and without enough space and on the wing like a typical touchline winger, he wouldn't have scored half the goals.

Well, I wouldn't agree with that. But he's a good candidate for third best player in the world.

I'm not sure if we can call him the third best in the world either. Top strikers such as Ibrahimovic and Falcao are both on the same level as him, while you've still got the likes of Xavi and Iniesta. I'd argue a case for top 3 strikers though.

Van Persie seems like he's lost a lot of pace since his early days at Arsenal, but he has adapted his game brilliantly. His game intelligence is on another level. Genius.

I agree completely. what i would add is that RVP seems much more of a team player too. He isn't selfish in and around the box, if there is a better option on, he'll play the pass. Fantastic player!

SAF has signed us a Cantona!!

For me there is Messi and then everybody else. Putting them in a ordered list means nothing. In my view RVP is in as good a run of form as anyone atm. That will do for me. :D

We've missed a player of his quality for ages. Its just pure joy to have one in our team now.

On current form yes. In terms of their contribution to Manchester United it's not comparable.

He wasn't this good for Arsenal... was he?
