When VP got that ball in the last minute, it was as if he was thinking, let's stop pissing about here, and just seal this game quick smart.

Great finish, and keeps his close to goal a game record going.

It's greedy to ask for some 2s and 3s, but we are a greedy lot

Shit. Still! 4th is very good for a 27 year old.

TBH I had to check  22 more needed for Rooney to match him - he should be clear in third this time next season at least all being well.

I still seems surreal to me that he's playing for is. I wasn't even particularly excited when we signed him (I actually was but just not as excited as you'd expect when signing the EPL topscorer), but I am excited now whenever he's playing. He brings so much quality to our attack. It's almost feels like cheating that we can use his services as well as Rooney's, Chicharito's and Wellbeck's.

I was on the fence last year but I don't think it's a contest between Rooney and van Persie any more. I still think Rooney is right up there with van the man in terms of importance because of a fairly unique skillset and mentality and our very specific needs but in terms of individual quality I think there's a really clear gulf.

Agree. Rooney's importance is amplified because of our lack of a replacement for the role he plays in the system (as is the case with Carrick) but in general it's clear for me that Van Persie is the better of the two. For me, he's been the best in this league for awhile now.

It's just that technically he is flawless.Specially when a defender is pressurizing him, you really notice his quality, great intelligence to twist and turn in order to create space for himself

I've felt he was the best striker in the league for the last four seasons or so. Yes, he's been injured, but is still generally 1 in 2 when he was fit. And the nature of some of his goals! He's no 30-goal 6-yard predator either. Some real beauties he's scored.

You should watch this clip on youtube of all the goals he has scored for Arsenal. Although some of the goals in his later seasons were tap-ins, an overwhelming amount of his goals were sublime finishes or involved wonderful technique. It's like early on in his career he simply did not know how to score simply goals. The clip is like 26mins long, but it's so gooood.

One of my favourite Persie goal for Arsenal was one against Blackburn. It was around the time there was quite a rivalry between the two sides due to Blackburn's physical nature. He got the ball just inside the Blackburn half and spun past a player, ran a bit and then bent one from just outside the box I think with his left.

I'll look for it in that video.

Such a special player. I rate Welbeck but I was surprised when some people on here were saying he would/could become as good as RVP.

I was one of the people who said similar things but I said in terms of contribution because of RVP's injuries in the past he hasn't been this absolute wonder of a player for his whole career.

Well, the thread went a whole 12 posts between using RVP's brilliance to have a dig at Rooney and now using it to start an argument about Welbeck. Can't we just talk about Robin?

Also...

"We need to consider that Mario was made as a major investment [costing £24m], and this is not a club that throws its capital through the window.

Of course Mancini knows the reason.

It was that VP wanted to come here!
He doesn't really want to say that out publically to his club's fans does he!

Obviously it wasn't just about money, or he'd be at City now!

Come on Mancini, you're the worst club EVER for throwing it's "captial" through the window!!

Lescott 24m and now not even 1sst choice back up is the worst example. There's loads and loads of others, wages as well as transfer fees.

The worst part about Balotelli is this IMHO
Balotelli's future at City has been in doubt because of his erratic form and behaviour. Yet Mancini said Sheikh Mansour, the club's owner, views the forward as asset who can help promote the City's brand worldwide.

He's right about that, Balotelli might be a loose cannon but he's a popular one. How many other footballers get the amount of media attention that guy does? I'm still seeing TV adverts with "Why Always Me" on them.

You'd wanna promote your brand for the right reasons and not because Mario fecking Balotelli has made the headlines for another dumb reason. He makes City a laughing stock with all the money they spent on him
