Thing that puzzles me when this kind of situation arises, is that we're trying to avoid getting a player a 5th booking, and thus a suspension.
So how do we do it? Rest them for a game.

So you still lose a player for a game!

You don't lose him though. You decide not to play him but can still have him on the bench if needed. It's a world of difference from not being allowed to include your player in the team when suspended.

I thought he was going to knock the shit out of Williams... and it'd have been fully deserved. If it'd been me I'd have gone mental too... even if Williams wasn't aiming for RVP (and only he really knows if he was, but I'll go on the side of caution) he's still an idiot for smashing a ball in anger when there is a man on the floor infront of the ball... an idiots deserved to be punished.

Unlucky not to pick up a goal and played fairly well. The way he holds the ball up is amazing at times. In the end the players around him let us down today. No one could pass the ball properly in the box and the amount of times good work went begging due to a shit pass behind the player or straight to the defender I lost count in the end.

Our striker really need to forget this game quickly and I hope that things click in the box for them in the next game. I was worried that he was going to be sent off for retaliating when he got belted in the head with the ball. Can't say I wouldn't have done the same though and in a way its good to see the fire is there

1 thing which i had noticed in the swansea game was we are starting to realise and trust RVP's game alot more. We are passing the ball into his feet in the box in tight space because we know he will hold it up and do something with it, his close control and ability to work space is second to none.

Usually our strikers ability in the box is pretty slim, we have good poachers who can hit tap things in but nobody else who plays with his back to the goal like him.

Numberous times in tight areas we just rolled it into him and made something happen - he is a very special player.

His finishing wasn't the greatest today but bagged another one and was majestic again in the second half.

Now when Rooney is injured we aren't completely fecked.

feckin love RVP.

I felt he dragged us through it reminiscent of Cantona in his prime. He was the leader out there and his class drove us on. A side of his game I hadn't seen before.

Dragged us out of the Fergie-induced mire we were in to somehow win that.

Could still have scored about 18 goals these last three matches with somewhat more precise finishing.

He literally never has a poor touch or bad pass.

And his ability to turn on a dime is fun to watch.

He will be able to play well into his 30's.

I love him. In the first half, he was ineffective and didn't see any of the ball. In the second half, he was dropping deep (as Rooney does) and distributing the ball left and right to the wingers and then running back to his natural position. He made our play tick, with Cleverley helping with the fast pace game-plan as well. I love his mean streak as well.

Exactly the words I was looking for. Brilliantly said.

He's a God. Coming to a team as strong as United and immediately becoming our best player is fantastic.

Dropped deep a lot more in the second half and did brilliantly.

Only thing I'm concerned about right now is that we're overplaying him. With Rooney out for 2-3 weeks I'm not sure when he's going to get his rest.

Great picture.

Was I the only one terrified when he tackled someone in that second half? I really thought he's going to pick up a yellow and miss the next game. Just needs to survive one more game without a caution now!

Another game, another goal (after a good save from the keeper following a terrific first time shot), another almost great volleyed goal... Such a superb footballer. He really does deserve better service. If we could get the rest of the team right he could actually get scary numbers.

I thought he was definately a cut above everyone else today, everything he does just has that extra bit of class.

Hes having the impact i always thought Berba would have given when we signed him. Still cant believe we got him to be honest

Done that a few times this season already. Probably our best player, Rooney is obviously world class and last season I had them level, but over the course of a season RVP is probably better to have (although having both is just cheating :D)
Can't help but feel that having Nani and Kagawa back would bring the best out of him.
RVP
Kagawa Rooney Nani

 Once everyone is fit, and hopefully Nani stays, that would be an amazing attack.

I was one of those who didn't see the point of buying him. I hang my head in shame. What a player he's been for us!

Even before he scored his goal he was the lone focal point of our attack that was actually producing chances. Just class all around and deserved his goal. IMO he should be taking all set pieces as well.

This isn't being Mr Hindsight, as I said it at the time, but why on earth wouldnt you want last season's best player.

Truly incredible.

Because folk thought the same money might be better spent on a great central midfielder? Any idiot could say they wanted both, but to prefer one over the other is hardly incredible.

I swear it's like watching a RedCafe rerun every time we have a game this season. Robin plays well, someone admits to being wrong in not wanting him, someone else say that they must be mental, and then the explanation that 711 offered this time around.

It'll be exactly the same on Saturday!

It's like deja vu all over again.

He's an excellent player and if we end up winning the league, it'll be mainly because of him. I just hope he can carry it on until his mid 30s - there's no reason why he can't score a 100+ goals for us.

One of the best moments of the game was that excellent pass from Carrick and how RvP somehow managed to get a good of a shot as he did. So close to scoring. I usually do a quick comparison on how I'd do in the same situation when players don't score or miss a pass. If I manage to pull that thing off once every 5 times under much less pressure than the players are under, then I expect them to pull it off in a game. How RvP took that first time shot, having the ball coming over him on a full sprint and having needed to stretch to get to it, I could definitely not have done. Top notch skill from him. I think most players in the league would struggle to get it 1 out of 5 tries.

Let's hope so!

Might be being greedy, but could do with seeing him score more than 1 in a game in the league for what would be only the second time!
He hasn't exploded as he could do yet. Almost like he's being polite just getting a single goal most games

I think he should've put more chances away than he has.

Still been quite clinical and his allround-game is top notch. But I think there's more to come there.

With RvP on 4 yellows and Rooney possibly facing a significant spell on the sidelines, I'm getting a bit worried about the Liverpool game. If he gets booked at Wigan, will he be out of the FA cup tie or against Liverpool in the league?

Hopefully he won't get booked against West Brom first though, we need him for the away games.
