I felt he dragged us through it reminiscent of Cantona in his prime. He was the leader out there and his class drove us on. A side of his game I hadn't seen before.

Isn't that pretty much what he did week in, week out for Le Arse last season? Certainly seemed so on the handful of occasions I watched them.

He's an amazing player and an influential personality, but as talismanic as Eric? No way.

I see his point but it should be reserved till the end of the season; a point not lost on RVP himself when asked about his first goal and how good it was. He comes across as quite level headed and reflective about his game

Van Persie's drive and desire to succeed by winning trophies is evident every time he has played for us this season. Amazing player and a great purchase for our club at the right time.

Got to say, last season he was something special at Arsenal. Dragged THAT Arsenal side, but without Cazorla, Wilshere, Podolski or Giroud (but with Alex Song) to 3rd place in the league. It was a great achievement.

I actually think RVP can go up another notch for us, I don't believe he is playing as good this season as he was last year for Arsenal we are just a better side that will create more chances. He is scoring a goal almost every match I think pretty soon he is going to be making that 2 goals in matches which I don't recall him doing that often so far this season. He is a fantastic signing.

With RvP on 4 yellows and Rooney possibly facing a significant spell on the sidelines, I'm getting a bit worried about the Liverpool game. If he gets booked at Wigan, will he be out of the FA cup tie or against Liverpool in the league?

Hopefully he won't get booked against West Brom first though, we need him for the away games.

The bookings get cleared at the end of this month so if he avoids a yellow against WBA he'll be fine.

Not as influential as Eric but individually he's probably a better player.

Had a rather quite first half with little actual service reaching the front men, but was great in the second half and helped to pull us back into the game. Dropped deep to pick up balls when he knew Hernandez's movement would stretch the defenders shape and held up the ball well for us until support arrived when the team actually decided to run at last.

Took his goal well, keeper had no chance for the second shot. Having him and Hernandez on the pitch always leave you feeling we can get a goal. Annoyingly I don't have the same confidence that we won't concede them right now

Have to say, this guy is an enigma. I was having an argument a couple of days back when some people said Rooney is the heartbeat of the team and it is imperative to have him to perform at the best of our abilities. But it's clear that even van Persie can do that without much fuss.

He looked a leader out there when Newcastle scored the 3rd goal and after we started to pick our game. Constantly looking for spaces, dropping down deep and creating space for other players. The team looked confident passing it to him, and he should have had a couple of more goals last night.

I swear it's like watching a RedCafe rerun every time we have a game this season. Robin plays well, someone admits to being wrong in not wanting him, someone else say that they must be mental, and then the explanation that 711 offered this time around.

It'll be exactly the same on Saturday!

Maybe we should have a thread where people just admit they were wrong about RVP. ;-)

They don't, but after the West Bromwich game 10 yellow cards give you a one-game suspension, not 5.

I think it's still a 2 game ban at 10 yellows, you just don't get a ban when you reach 5

This. As long as he avoids a booking v West Brom he'll be fine.

I hope we're not pushing him though. I keep expecting him too be rested but he seems to play every game and now with Rooney injured we need him to remain fit.

Thats probably because he's playing with better players and also a strike partner. In Arsenal everything goes through him.

Agree with this completely, I think he is still to really explode.

He's ticking over and playing well, but getting his goals in singles.
Only 2 in a champions league game, and 3 v Southampton so far.

He's due to smash someone soon.

Hope he can manage to play another 90 vs West Brom and Wigan, it's needed now with Rooney our injured. Then RvP could rest in the FA Cup rather than the league.

Agree completely with this. We have signed a world class goalscorer that when he plays performance wise 6/10 he will get us 1 goal, but he does have the ability to step it up to 8/10 or 9/10 and get bags of goals.

I love the fact we have RVP now, when we go forward we really do have a massive presence up there, in the past, world class teams can just shackle Rooney and feel content that we wont score more than 1 goal against them. Now with Rooney AND RVP up there, they just don't know what to do. Reminds me far more of 1999 when we were just unstoppable going forward.

He played every game last season and was fine.

If anything his injury record has been pretty good the last year and a half, a lot better than Rooney's and plenty of other's. Lets hope he stays fit as I think he will and already has been pivotal this season, top player.

He's just absolutely fantastic isn't he. Exquisite footballer and one of the best technical players I've ever seen at United. And he is loving it here, playing with players with a similar winner's mentality to him, and it just seems he is on a crusade to finally get himself some worthwhile silverware on his CV.

His injury record over the last 24 months has been outstanding.

I'm sure Fergie didn't intend on playing him for 90mins 3 games in a row over 6 days, but looks like he'll start saturday.

Maybe Hernandez will start on the bench, and it it goes well, take him off on 60/70.

It's worrying that we just can't find a game to rest him in. He's going to be needed vs WBA and Wigan but hopefully he gets a rest in the Cup game.

Might be a chance that he starts on the bench for Wigan if Welbeck is fully recovered.
But might be better he starts both if feeling good, and comes off later if needs be.

Loving him more after each and every game :)
Class player he is.

I don't wanna get ahead of myself, but I would/will be so happy for him if/when he gets a PL title (and maybe more) with United, you can tell he's hungry for it.

Let's see some more of this 'nine and a half' play he's always going on about now that Rooney is out, we're going to need it.
