How fast is RVP actually? I've seen him figure on the top twenty or ten fastest players in the EPL from time to time, which is weird because he doesn't look fast. That being said, I've never seen him be outpaced. Is he one of those players who are deceptively fast and rarely use their pace unless they have to?

RVP can, injuries permitting, probably play as a top striker for another four or five years, which will make the buy seem like a bargain considering what he offers to the club.

rvp glides. he's not nearly as quick as someone like kaka in his peak but kaka had that same elegant glide that looked like he wasn't moving all that fast but was extremely quick.

That's a pretty good comparison and explanation. At his peak, Kaka was seriously fast, and deceptively so. I remember when he played against United, so explosive without looking to break a sweat. Unfortunately for him, a lot of that seems to have been lost to injuries.

The cnut ran his contract down so he would be able to negotiate big wages. Yeah, City came in with a too-late £300K but since he was already getting £250K from you he probably thought he could afford to keep the bullshit 'ambition' shite going (see Rooney).

Maybe if your club stops overpaying young players so much, they'll actually be able to offer more money for the older players to stay and you'll actually win something once in a while.

Even though Kaka didn't look fast, you still knew he was. He had electric pace at times and scored some great goals using it. I think RVP has moderate pace, he isn't that fast be he isn't slow. He never really seems to use his pace though, he doesn't sprint 30 yards with the ball.

Myth. Your wage bill was £29m more in 2010-11.

And? Doesn't explain the fact that you give young players ridiculous wages and are then perplexed when they leave because you refuse to budge as they get older.

Pogba left because we wouldn't give him what he thought he was worth, same with Fryers and to an extent Morrison. Young players have to earn the money they get, not the other way round.

And that's a big difference between Arsenal and Man Utd. We pay enough to keep the players in their prime, whereas your club lets them leave with them complaining about the lack of signings to keep the club competitive, and your supporters whining about them leaving because they're demanding unrealistic wages.

You end up prematurely fast-tracking the younger players and offering inflated wages to reflect their status as first team regulars, and finding yourself priced out when they grow older and want a bigger contract. It's a vicious cycle, and it's set to continue for the foreseeable future.

We don't, you can afford to pay your top ten players an average of about £60K a week more. Both teams play their other squad/youth about the same.

If money was his biggest concern he would have gone to City.

The biggest concern for him was winning notable things, something Arsenal FC can not provide. Something Manchester United can provide.

Arsenal were ready to match United's wages and it was reported by one of the Arsenal journalists that they were even willing to pay RvP more.

The fact of the matter is, is that he's now at his prime and NOW is the time to win stuff. Not WASTE his life at Arsenal.

So he chose Manchester United, and it's amazing because it's the perfect club for him :)

Don't talk bollox our offer was about £150K a week and he's signed up for £250K. Man Utd is the perfect club for him since they're a bunch of cnuts and he fits right in

Aye he left because he wanted to be at a team that competed. You just have to look at the Arsenal AGM to understand why Van Persie left.

If we're not talking bollocks, then he's on £200k a week, actually. According to most sources other than the Fail and WikiPeteia. Of course his deal is probably modelled on Rooney's, which means he gets a nice slice of the image rights money (always vastly improved by a move to United) on top of his wage.

Shifting Chamakh and Arshavin wages to him would surely exceed the additional 100k. They can't be that bad that nobody would take them on a free transfer.

He wouldn't have joined Tottenham or Liverpool for 250K a week though Pete.

He joined us because Arsenal won't compete for any major trophies anytime soon and he knows it. United will though. Is it really that strange that a fantastic player like van Persie wants to win some things in his career? Ambition, you know.

There's no way we're paying him 250k a week.

You sound like your jimmies have been rustled.

It's funny. I see the letters, words, sentences but no matter what, it reads as:
WAHHHHHHHHHHHHH! WAHHHH! WAHHH! WAHHH! WAHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH! WAHHHH!

Strange.

Blimey! Hernandez has 9! Rooney has 8! That's a pretty good return already into the season. We are beginning to hit our stride. Agree with Ferguson, RVP brings another dimension. We seem to have a renewed sense of confidence.

Its like you can taste the tears!

I actually think you've convinced yourself that all your best players continually leave you because of money  Ignorance is bliss :wenger:

I'd be willing to bet we aren't paying him 250k per week.

Yes, I'd readily believe we were willing to offer him a higher salary than was on offer at Arsenal, but that's not the number one reason he joined us - otherwise he'd have taken up the late offer from City.

If Arsenal fans can't accept that United are a hundred times more likely to win trophies than they are over the next 3-4 seasons then they really need to wake up. We're a far more attractive club to play for at the moment, and van Persie knows that.

Ever think he got tired of the mounting pressure on him to carry a poor Arsenal side, whilst Wenger sold off the rest of the talent at the club? It was a simple decision for someone in van Persie's situation - and it looks like he's absolutely made the right call, so far.

Ruud Van Nistelrooy went to Madrid at 29, after only 5 years of service, as opposed to the 8 RVP's put in, most likely for an increased wage, and after a comparatively rather poor period of success here....We don't hate him.

He was basically flogged by SAF though. The club was done with him, not the other way around.

And domestic rivals trumps European-sort-of-rivals anytime.

I can certainly see why Pete's angry. Which makes it all the more funny when he can't bring himself to admit that ambitious players simply don't stay with Arsenal anymore.

He'll love it when Wilshere leaves.

Itll be interesting to see what happens with this one. A lot of people talking about how he is an Arsenal lad and will be loyal. But I just cant see it, for a player of his stature and potential, unless there is a significant turnaround for Arsenal. Arsenal are just really nowhere near winning anything - going in the opposite direction of it. Liverpool were much closer to contention when Gerrard was considering his future than Arsenal are now. I think he'll have to go, if his love for Arsenal makes that difficult maybe he will end up abroad.

He made several transfer requests and was being disruptive within the club. We were only 'done with him' because he insisted on behaving like an utter bell.

In that case I'm sure Pete'll forgive our Robin when he's won us the CL and the league a couple of times.

So he wasn't at right club for him in last 8 years?

Do we know for fact that its 250k a week? Wasnt that picked off from a tweet, the source of which was FM2013? :wenger:

But why were we done with him? According to Sir Alex he asked to leave twice.
