We've yet to see any screamers from him too. So much more to come.

I didn't know he was this good. I think I was just jelous because he was lighting it up last season even more than Rooney.

He is like Ruud with a better touch and a technique that is much better on the eye.

Yeah his first goal was special. I also loved his header to win it against Southampton - much harder than it looks.

Good lad ! :D

I saw that.
I also saw Shinji doing Gangnam Style.
It sounded pretty funny, but the quality was pretty bad.

But back to the man himself, whats the likelihood of him been given a rest sometime over the next 4/5 weeks.
He's played well, but a week over christmas period might do him some good, in time for the champions league.

We certainly need him for the away games, might get a rest against Newcastle (26th) or WBA (29th).

Ruud's only got 14 results there!

Bit of a flat track bully wasn't he RvN?

Only joking, he was a beast in the CL.

I always expect RVP to get on the scoresheet at the moment. He had a good game, getting a goal and really nice work to set up rooney. Saying that I don't think he had a really great game. Missed a few chances as well that I expected him to take like the lob. What is good about him is that you know when we are under pressure that he is highly likely to finish of even a half chance.

A player who regularly scores opening goals, crucial goals & winning goals is priceless.

Yeah, he didn't play in three games. Azzurri was asking about their stats after United played 17 games rather than the players individually. He did score in the next three though like you say, and adding the minutes together (1375) and dividing by the 13 goals scored is roughly 106 mins per goal.

I just hope we can improve our service to him and have him a bit more involved. He's just brilliant, shame we didnt get him way earlier

Wouldn't be surprised if he and Rooney missed a game each over the Christmas period, in rotation with Chicharito and Welbeck to preserve fitness a bit.

As good as the partnership is it'd be mad to persist with them over that busy period and I really doubt we will.

Got rep in the Newbs for questioning his potential transfer. Feel a bit of a fraud now!
He's so very, very good!

I remember that! Forgot we were in the newbs at the same time. Don't worry the same happened to me. And there i was trying to offer some perspective......

I questioned his transfer on the basis that a) he's not young and very injury-prone, b) there's something intrinsically shit about just buying your rivals' best player, it makes football a bit pointless, and c) we need a centre midfielder.

I no longer give a shit about b) due to it being such fun having Van persie in our team. a) might still bite us but fingers crossed. I'd still like a centre midfielder please.

For me I have to say b) was a bonus.

As for a), well - he's the outfield player who's played the most consecutive games in the league without missing one bar one other guy(can't remember who) according to the commentator on Saturday.

c) Please don't talk about this.

What?

There's something fecking brilliant in buying your rivals' best player, it's football in all it's awesomeness. Viva Cantona :D

It just makes it a contest of money. Imagine if City bought Rooney, Vidic and RVP. Then next season they hammer us. Well done, you spent a load of cash to make us half as good and you twice as good. Just makes it a bit meaningless.

Cantona was a bit different, we didn't unsettle him or make an offer they couldn't refuse, Fergie just saw his true value and Wilkinson didn't.

That said, as I mentioned I no longer really give a feck, due to being fickle and unprincipled. It's a delight to see RVP play for us.

I don't think that's entirely fair. Van Persie was unsettled at Arsenal and looked to be leaving either way, not just for financial reasons but for footballing reasons as well (at least that's what I feel). We took advantage of an opportunity that was presented to us instead of creating that opportunity ourselves by forcing the issue financially.

Not forgetting the main reason for coming round to the signing:

Everything we do is right

Therefore by definition, everything Liverpool, City and other rival teams do is wrong

I feel we should send Arsenal some more money or something for him - the signing is looking a real bargain.

Having RVP in the team is sometimes feel like cheating. Doesn't matter if we have poor performance sometimes knowing that he will find a way to score and win you matches.

Heheheh. It more feels like team is completed in a certain department.

Same here Plech. Except, I didn't give a toss about b).
I threw in stifling Welbeck's progress, for good measure.

Plato, good to see you in here. Damned surprised Shades made it though!

How could you ever give a shit about b Plech, one of the weirdest reasons I've ever seen for not liking a transfered player.

Although Plech was talking about not liking the transfer as opposed to not liking the player himself, I agree with you. Van Persie really really wanted to play for United and Arsenal got a good fee so it doesn't feel like we've done something wrong by signing him. I get Plech's point, but it wasn't like van Persie was happy at Arsenal so he would have left at some point. We didn't unsettle him, he was already heading for the door.
