I really don't understand the idea of resting players in the league. He's a professional football player who has had enough rest by not playing in the latter games of the Champions League.

He's had enough rest. He's a tremendous footballer that wants to start (and not to mention he's on a high wage :p) Play the man and let him score!

I don't think it's more of "giving the guy a rest" - more so of "QUICK, WRAP HIM IN A COTTON WOOL SHELL - HE MUST NOT GET INJURED". All it takes is one bad tackle from a Reading player after all.

Does he need to start in every PL match we play in? I don't think so.

This too. I'd hate to see him get injured.

If we want to win the league we need to play our best players.

He might get injured, but then we signed him so took on that chance. Hernandez has not proven to be a good enough starter for us, his impact is mainly as a player coming off the bench. Welbeck is out of sorts, and doesn't provide any goal threat. Van Persie needs to start when fit.

Exactly.

I understand the notion of squad rotation and how important it is. But given the nature of how competitive this league has become, we need to start our best players. We didn't pay that much money to not have him start all the time when fit.

That miss aside, he's not playing too well at the moment.

You'd expect someone who can fake a shot better than anyone I've seen in recent years, he doesn't seem calm enough to do it nowadays.

He had a couple of chances that he should've buried, including the one that went over the line!!!

Wasn't his best game yet still scored and had one over the line that wasn't called.

It looked bad, and he absolutely has to score it
But it was on reflection much tougher than it appeared, as he had to hook his foot around it to get it on target

But I repeat, he absolutely has to score it

Not at his best and still with a brilliant scoring rate. Good enough for me.

Should've just faked the shot and rolled it in with his right.

I thought the same. There was no one who could have catched up and the chance that the goalkeeper jumps into the shot is 99.9%.

But, I have to say, the main reason why we dont see the best is our midfield who's just not good enough currently to give him the service he needs

Delighted for rvp. Has come in and quietly went about his business. One of Ferguson's best signings. Could have won more if he wad with us sooner. Hopefully he gets udain to champion s league final

Hasn't really impress me the way he is capable of yet and still scoring goals. That is probably the best indicator of his ability.

Hasn't really impressed you? Uhhhhh

Who's Udain? And why should he get to go to the champion s league final?

Yes, for a player of the very top bracket bar Ronaldo and Messi, apart from his goals number he didn't. I'm not going to pretend just because we wanted him so badly and got a star name. He's got loads more to his game than goals.

His all round game has been class, don't know what you are talking about.

I'm sure he himself believes he hasn't really clicked yet which is understandable given he's arrived three months ago. The good thing is he's scoring and looking good. Does he look to me like a player he's acknowledged as? no he doesn't but I'm pretty sure he's getting there.

Perception varies sometimes you know.

 I just saw Big Sam's description of RvP's goal against the Hammers. "Undone by one of the stuffiest goals i've ever seen.."

Hahah cheeky cnut.

He strikes me as a very intelligent fella. Great in interviews. Very natural. While so many other footballers are scratching their noses, looking left and right and displaying all the non-verbal communications that suggests an uncomfortable state, he seems to thrive on it

ROBIN VAN PERSIE has revealed there was no chance of him joining Manchester City once he discovered Sir Alex Ferguson wanted him.

The Dutch striker was Roberto Mancini’s top target last summer – but Van Persie chose to join next-door neighbours United instead in a £24m deal.

Van Persie has slotted in perfectly, scoring 13 goals already, and ahead of tomorrow’s Manchester derby he insists he has no regrets about snubbing Mancini.

“I made my mind up very quickly and I am coming into work with a big smile on my face every day,” said Van Persie. “I have been having the time of my life here. So I don’t regret that (decision).

“Of course in a derby you have lots of people involved, fans and players, everyone is really committed and wants their team to win. We will do all we can to win this game.”

Tomorrow’s clash will be the former Arsenal star’s first taste of a Manchester derby and he reckons it is now the biggest game in English football.

“It’s a big one straight away. I am looking forward to it because it’s number one versus number two at the moment and hopefully we can stretch our lead,” he told MUTV.

“Everyone is looking at it and is curious about what will happen. In the past I had the north London derby against Spurs and other derbies in London, but this is two Manchester teams in one city.

“One is called United and the other is called City and that’s it, they are the only teams, so it is the only derby and the biggest derby.

“I know what it means, we know what it means, and we are looking forward to it.”

A win for United would see them open up a six-point lead over City at the top.

But Van Persie admits it will be a tough test of his side’s title credentials.

He added: “We are three points ahead of them, which is good after 15 games in the league, but we do want to stretch that and keep our run going.

“Even if we win, it will be a tough game for both sides. It’s a derby, commitment will be very high, so it will be interesting.

“It is not a decider to win the league yet, but we can make a huge step forward.”

Meanwhile Ferguson has taunted the Blues and told his bitterrivals, ‘Prove you’re not one-hit wonders’.

City have lost their sparkle this season and struggled to hit top form, despite remaining unbeaten and hot on the heels of United.

Fergie reckons it is harder to retain the title than win it in the first place and has questioned the Blues’ ability to handle being champions.

Now he has piled even more pressure on his biggest rivals by reminding them how United have been a dominant force for two decades.

He said: “The great thing we have done is been here all the time for a long time.

“For 20 years we have been at the top part. It is great credit to all the teams we have had here, to all the players we have had here, that consistency is a fantastic model for us.

“We are just consistent. I don’t think we have been out of the top three since the Premier League started, either third, second or first. We must take great credit for that.”
