Roberto Firmino

I thought that Sky sport Germany had said that a fee has been "agreed"? So how can Hoffenheim still want 30m?

Am I right in thinking Firmino and Felipe Anderson are quite similar in terms of both style and position(s)? Who's the better player?

Is this guy the real deal? Haven't seen much of him, from what I have seen he looks like a reliable but not stand-out player. We have enough reliable players, we need to start signing quality players.

I have only saw youtube videos of Felipe Anderson but he seems to be a right winger, when Firmino is a very attacking midfielder who mostly plays in the hole and can easily play on the left as an inside forward.

I don't know what you consider stand-out - but find me an attacking midfielder in the P.L with these stats that you don't consider stand-out and I will be very impressed by you

2014/2015 - 33 matches - 7 goals 10 assists
2013/2014 - 33 matches - 16 goals 12 assists

I know stats don't tell everything - but those are pretty darn impressive stats.

I watched him for Brazil yesterday. He played around 20-30 minutes. He was quicker than I thought, and made a lot of good runs. On Brazils 2-1 goal, Neymar was running with the ball and Firmino made a run in the other direction dragging players with him creating space for Neymar which ultimately led to the goal. He did a few of these runs and looked very good in general.

So whose the better of the two? Felipe Anderson or Roberto Firmino? We're linked with both, both seem to play the same position, roughly the same age.

Well, Firmino plays regularly for Brazil. Felipe Anderson does not.

Yep, the only ones which immediately spring to mind are the quality players like Mata, Rooney, Fabregas, even Oscar, AdM, Ramsey (last season) etc who can match those type stats. Some with more assists, less goals and vice versa. But those stats are impressive - especially if you consider the (lack of) quality players in a side like Hoffenheim (with all due respect to them) and his done it consistently over 2-3 seasons. I don't know much about him (at all), but yeah, seems like a bright future ahead of him.

Of smaller teams, I'd think Sigurdsson is quite close maybe? Eriksen at Spurs. But that's as far as I can think, off the top of my head. Impressive stats. (we're not talking wing forwards here like Memphis etc, right?).

Downward trend. Stay clear.

Yep, seems it was reported in BILD.

Good. If this does go through, we should be seeing far more excitement at OT next season with Firmino and Memphis running at defenders.

LVG laid the ground-work last season, now it's time to add the 'nice bits'

I wonder how we will fit him, Mata, AdM, Rooney and Depay into the side next year.

Herrera and Carrick are two locks in midfield you'd assume.

As back-ups yeah, far too young and inexperienced to be there as the main players of those positions.
I guess they are young. I think it'll be an open competition. Whoever is on form plays. Which means even ADM and Mata are not assured of their places.

One thing consistent so far, they're all early 20s. Depay 21, Firmino 23, Felipe 22. I guess that's our profile targets this season. Assuming of course that the rumors are all true.

I don't know if we'll sign him or not, but we keep acting as if we'll sign only 1 player, signing him will not stop us from getting a striker if we want.

1. Our attack was snail slow & pedestrian last season, we complained, we're linked with players that can change this, we complain.
2. Mata, while he's a good baller, he doesn't force things like say Silva, maybe Firmino can do this.
3. With CL, there'll be lots of games, we'll rotate.
4. Memphis is young, could need time + no one knows the Di Maria that'll turn up, one technical, pacy attacker isn't a bad idea.

So, with his agent confirming he will go to England, I guess it's between us and City now?

We will also sign at least one new central midfielder that will expect to play, there will be quite a competition for a starting spot. Maybe we are trying to get 2 good players for every position?

If Van gaal does what he usually does a fan favorite will leave or be out favor. And to respond to your question 6-7 players for three positions isn't too much, between the European competitions, the injuries and the out of form players, everyone will play.

Looking at Daniel Busch's replies on twitter, he thinks it's us or City.

If City are going all out for Sterling, it could mean Firmino is ours. They also bought Bony in January so don't really need another forward either... you'd hope.

That I cannot comprehend. All this 'we don't need him etc' is nonsensical. Firmino is a dynamic pacey forward that can get goals. Exactly what we need and fits the LvG profile. See Robben at Bayern for example. Having both Firmino and Depay would be fantastic.

Can't see City getting De Bruyne this season so Firmino would make sense for them.

Agreed.

They're both a bit raw and will cause some frustration, but it'll be brilliant watching them take defenders on at pace next season & developing into, hopefully, world class attackers. It's definitely the right type of signing.

I cant see City getting him. This isnt like Hazard when there was actually a real project to add to the sugardaddy money to entice him. City are not moving forward at all.

Since fellaini played as a box to box in the last months, no. But if we play in 4-2-3-1, Fellaini will probably be the loser.
Nah, Fellaini was as close to a #10 as we had in the 4-3-3 we played, Herrera being the box to box. So yeah, my guess would be Firmino would take that position or rotate up front or out wide some times. He's versatile and that's something Van Gaal has always liked to have.

Can't be City, it seems their immediate targets are Pogba and Sterling.

For me haven't played with a #10, Fellaini in my opinion was an attacking box to box and Herrera a defensive box to box, and it was particularly easy to see that in defense with Fellaini clearly at the left of the midfield and in attack he predominantly supported Young on the left. The fact that Fellaini had for instruction to run in the box doesn't make him #10.
But I agree that if we sign someone like Firmino, Fellaini will probably lose his place but it will be in a different set up.

Hopefully Firmino is United bound. He looks a really good player, decent price if rumours are true and would improve our squad imo. He can play anywhere across the front three and he could even play in a more advanced midfield role with two defensive players behind him.
