Do we think we're gonna pay close to the amount we paid for Memphis? I didn't know the club could afford 600 million pounds in transfers this year.. FFP might be after us.

Agree, complaining about a lack of balance doesn't automatically mean LVG needs every midfielder to be a defensive beast.

I mean he survived for years without Fellaini before he came to United and I doubt all his previous #10's were ultra defensive. In fact the main thing I heard about #10's in LVGs system before he arrived was that they had to have a big attacking output....

No we'll balance the books by selling Mata & a few others. Plus a big reduction in the wage bill once a few have been cleared. FFP can't be much of an issue now, even City can splash 150 mill....

I'm saying its utterly irrelevant. Do I hope we sign firmino to play in our 3 CMs? No, because LVG won't likely be happy to play him there based on what he's said this season, it is a square peg in a round hole when there are plenty of actual CMs suitable to a 4-3-3. Am I saying I wouln'dt like to sign him as an option in the front 3? Of course not. I'm saying it matters little what braindead fans think of him playing at #10, if he doesn't fit LVGs plan he simply won't play there.

I said the same thing when we signed falcao last season btw 'we have 1 game a week, where will our other two strikers play' and was shouted down with 'when a class player is available you sign him and try to fit him in later' which I think is the opposite of what managers should do
 
Just hoping that the rumors are true with United being linked to him. Would love to see him as a wide striker with Depay on the other side. We need players like them who can make and take goals. Not comparing them to Messi, Neymar and Suarez, but when you look at those 3 players, not only do they score a boat load of goals, but they create so many for each other as well. In the 4-3-3 that LvG is playing now, there really is not a #10 in there, but Firmino can play there if needed. Plenty of improvements need to be made to the team from last season, so not worried about who would potentially lose their place.
 
The only thing that has moved on this in the last two days has been the price from 18m to 30m, right?
 
If this guy comes in.. Mata and Rooney will have to watch their backs. . He is a dynamic number 10 and will give us some much needed pace and energy in that position.

For the people saying that we have too many number 10s/attackers, our attack was the most disappointing aspect of our team last season. So there's no doubt we need to improve in this aspect. If that means benching or selling a few then so be it.

From what I'm reading in this thread, this guy sounds like the kind of player we need to be looking at.
 
We have too many no 10s in the current system. However what would happen if lets say LVG reverts to a 4-2-3-1 system or a 4-4-1-1 one? LVG may decide to remove a striker to play a no 10 instead. Under such circumstances we would have Rooney/Hernandez as main strikers, Firmino-Mata as no 10.

Well that's stating the obvious.

Nobody knows for sure what Louis van Gaal's plans are, fans are evaluating the possibilities, that's kind of the point of this forum.
 
We need more versatile forwards in our rancid predictable setup, do away with gobshite Hernandez and past it RVP.

Memphis & Firimno are the way forward, palyers able to roam and inter change dragging oppositions cnuty defenders all over the shop.

Exactly. Also people seem to have a become experts on what Van Gaal will or won't like. The idea that because fellaini is tall and makes a few defensive headers, skilful attacking midfielders won't suit playing in his system centrally is just another guess. Balance is important. But there's not just one set way to have balance. You could alternatively make add more in terms of tackling to your number 6 or number 8, hence freeing up your number 10, if that's even what Fellaini plays, to be more adventurous and expressive.
 
What's United waiting for? Sign him already. Good player, decent price.
 
I'm excited by this one. Hope it happens. Saw some clips of him vs Bayern and Dortmund and he is surpringly strong and quick for a number 10.
