Roberto De Zerbi

Russell Martin's teams play a very possession based game, and he's quickly worked his way from league one to championship play off finalist - happily jumping ship from two different clubs already in a short space of time.

A team like Brighton look the dream kind of playing style and size of club for his first PL job. If Southampton lose to Leeds (or even if they win, maybe?) I think that might be an interesting move for both parties? Similar situation to McKenna, I suppose.
Martin’s definitely an option as well, but links with McKenna have been rumbling for a few weeks.

He should have left and retired after Brighton beat football and went out on a high. Instead his last game will be a home defeat to the worst Utd team in a long time. What a way to go.

Feck him and feck Brighton.

This sort of bitterness isn't good for you in the long run.

Surely it’s the other way around? Nothing screams ‘United loss’ more than the opposition manager departing. Thoroughly expect a Brighton win tomorrow - well, I did before the announcement but still.

Ah, it was tongue in cheek. I just want Utd to win. I got tired of the crazy overhyped love in very quickly. Nobody was talking about George Burley getting big jobs when he took Ipswich up to 6th or whatever it was. He's taken Brighton from where Potter left them to where Potter left them, granted he's lost a few big players, but I don't think he'd last the season at a top club.

How when he got them their highest ever PL position?

Based on the football his teams play, his integration of young players, Brighton finishing 6th last season and a penalty shootout away from an FA cup final, and the chasings his team have given Utd over the last 2 seasons. He might not have trophies to show for it yet, but there’s evidence there that with good players his teams can be dominant in games in a way Utd have not been since Ferguson

What about this season though?

Funnily enough Martin lives in Brighton aswell. Rumours Southampton will sack him if they don't win the play off final so he might not even have the opportunity to jump ship.

Milan are also on the hunt for a new manager, although they seem to be after Fonseca. Maybe with De Zerbi on the table one of them will have a rethink.

I think Juve's in for Motta from Bolonga and Fonseca to Milan. Don't think RDZ will go to either. Its still early, more managers will leave their respective clubs in the coming weeks. RDZ will probably end up at PSG or somewhere random?

Because Potter had them in 9th in his last full season, he had them 4th/5th when he left for Chelsea. De Zerbi will leave them in 10th.
He had them in 4/5th after 6 games. That doesn’t count for anything. What a weird way to look at it. Ole had us in 1st at one point, same with Jose. Did they ever win us the league?

If one of the main tasks part of the new structure that's been bought in by SJR and co is to pick the identity in type of playing style the club will need to play going forward maybe Di Zerbi type of football could be it.

Has Berada and Wilcox been the ones to decide that Di Zerbi is the one to use.

Start controlling games and dominate possession.Playing out from the back under pressure.

This type of football is to be used throughout the club from academy to 1st team, isnt that part of Wilcox's job to ensure this will be done.

Watching this, could this be the direction we go with playing:

I felt we could get a good result at Brighton but now this announcement and they'll probably be motivated to win in his last game. Feck.

Where is he going anyway? And will Brighton go for McKenna now?

Typical of this to happen before our game against them. Teams get new managers before playing us aswell.

Do we want that type of football though? He’s a bit open like ETH. When De Zerbi loses he loses ugly. He doesn’t know how to keep it tight at the back.

Ok, so the season ended they finished 9th, he then had them 5th and left for Chelsea. De Zerbi rode a wave and took them to a 6th place finish and will now finish 10th and leave, right back to where they finished the season before he took over.

He lost important players and he had to navigate the Europa league as well… And still ha can match Potter’s last season (51 pts and -2 p). Finishing 10th-12th (48-51 pts) this season would be a good result for Brighton, no matter how you look at it. Don‘t forget the goal difference, they’ve never had a positive goal difference before him. They weren’t scoring enough despite all the good football Potter played.

You can not possibly look at this and think he is a failure.

Never said he was a failure, I've already stated he lost players. But we all heard all the shite about how Brighton beat football and De Zerbi was this and that etc etc etc...

Reality is they are right back to where they were before he joined.

McKenna to Brighton
De zerbi is highly rated by INEOS he was earmarked by Barrada at city to take over from Pep whenever he left.

He's gonna switch seats with Ten Hag by the end of it. Along with Sir Brailsford announcing if it was just a prank and that 'muppets should be patient'.

I'm actually surprised that Bayern are so decisively against his appointment. Wonder if they know something or if they really want someone more short term to get Alonso next year.

Rode a wave for 32 games?

come on, you know that ain’t possible in the premier league.

finishing in six is a great position for a club like that

You guys aren't concerned that he only got them scoring that much with the xG, that are very comparable to Brentford and Bournemouth? I didn't use United because the excuse would be that our players are more talented and expensive. As crap as we are, Brighton is there with those 2 clubs.

Yep! We’re always every teams last game at their stadium before they move too

He’s just a living version of that Bart Simpson meme where he’s playing chess against 3 different people, but then loses them all

Bored of people hyping up the fact Brighton pass it a bit. Fantastic. Problem is they fecking lose all the time

I’m personally over losing all the time. Get a winner in

Why are you so bitter about the shite spouted by the media (which they do in general?)

I thought the Press would be making more of this by hyping up he is on his way to Utd and saying that he will be replacing the outgoing Erik.

Don’t think we’ve been strongly linked with him have we? Think he’ll go either Bayern or Barca

I just....don't get too excited by him. I think the hair and beard combo, and how he's just done very averagely this season. Have Brighton had a lot of injury issues or something? What's the explaination.

He has not been available until now and it is more the timing of him leaving Brighton than anything else.
I am sure he would be in demand in any of the top leagues in the world but we all know the Press love talking about us more than any other club.

They have had injuries
They sold two of their best players last season
They do not have a huge budget and big squads like the big boys but they play a great brand of football and along with Potter he should be commended for what he has done at the club.
