Film Robert Pattinson IS The Batman

Not read the comics, but I have only watched the animated series and feature films. In the latter, or atleast most of it bar a couple of exceptions, Batman's persona is close to Nolan's films. Pretty dark and brooding, and his costume is said to mirror his pain.

Everyone wrote Heath Ledger off, so I am not going to make the same mistake with Robert Pattinson. Let's see what he looks like once he is in the batsuit before jumping on his looks and calling him a miscast. Atleast they got the Joker right in all probability with Joaquin Phoenix in the standalone movie, though its' pretty sad Leto will continue to portray the character in other movies.

More like they got the director right in nolan. Credit to heath still, cant see that topped off. For once i really understand the fear 1 clown can bring.

Batman villain are ussually comical but you really can see how dangerous the joker is

I hope they make the character more closely with the animated series. It's a dark character, but Batman in BTAS is not depressive maniac who pushed everybody away.

I think he'll surprise a lot of people. This and the Nolan film that he's doing will propel him into the big time IMO.

If both Matt Reeves and Christopher Nolan have belief in him, that is more than good enough for me. People should stop basing their opinion on him only on Twilight.

Also, great chin for the suit. Can't wait to see this.

Why are people only associating him with Twilight?

He's a cracking actor who's been in some excellent films recently. This is a great choice (for the people making the film, if not for him)

I was coming in to post my own long opinion on this however this will do.

Its unfortunate that peoples lasting opinion of him is the twilight movies however if people had actually been paying attention to his career and not just those they would have seen him putting in some good to great performances over the last few years in some genuinely non mainstream movies.

For those who haven't seen them yet its worth seeking out: The Rover, Good Time(excellent performance), Cosmopolis (a marmite movie that I like but most people i know don't but Pattinson performance is still good) and the recent High Life (haven't finished it yet but so far so good).

My only real reservation is that this role will take time away from most of the great character roles he's been playing over the last few years however I have little doubt that he'll bring something fresh or interesting to the role as he's been doing that consistently to a range on different roles over the last few years.

I don't see a fecking point to hollywood digging up and remaking a batman and spiderman movie every few years, they should move on and make some fresh movies. If I have to see Martha Wayne fell dead in a black dress and white pearl necklace with scarlet blood pooling around her again or Uncle Ben getting murdered for the 100th time, I'll feel like poking my eyeballs out with a rusted nail.

$€¥¢£. That's the point.

This isn't origin reboot, story takes off after all that.

Christopher Nolan did everything from the origin to the ending in the dark night series, what's left to do?

I actually love Batman and I'm happy we got a definitive kick ass version on screen as well as the Arkham Knight series on video games but even I'm losing interest in it.

I am probably on of the rarer people who doesn't like Nolan's Batman that much, I like it as a criminal movie, but not as a Batman trilogy, I enjoy Tim burton's Batman atmosphere much more.

I love the Arkham Knight videogames more than the Nolan series because it gets at the angst and internal philosophy of Bruce Wayne a lot more than the movie.

I live near a university, I see them every day. He looks like every kid trying to bluff his way into a bar because he 'left his ID at home'.
You live near a university where students are 18 and over and wouldn’t need fake IDs or do you live in the states?

I live in Canada where the drinking age is 19 and university students can be 17-18. But my post was a reply to somebody saying I don't know what a 17 year old looks like, which I do because I see them everywhere every day, and my reply was regarding 17 year olds saying they left their ID at home - a common scenario as bouncers will tell you.

I absolutely hated the way the Nolan trilogy ended. The fact that he was a virtual cripple (despite not being Batman very long) and that he lost his entire fortune didn’t sit well with me.

The Bat suit with the skinny neck in TDK and TDKR was shit, and the less said about Bale’s stupid gravely voice the better.

I loved Batman Begins because it felt like a Batman movie. I loved the Dark Knight because it was a great movie, but you could have easily replaced Batman with a generic James Bond style hero and it would have worked. It didn’t feel like a Batman movie.

Batman does not suit hyper realism (it’s why Nolan didn’t introduce so many great villains).

Give me the Tim Burton movies over the Nolan trilogy every time.

Where do you live in Canada? Because I remember dropping into Toronto when I was 18 on a layover and not being able to buy cigs and they said 'well if you were in the next provinence it would be fine', upset me to no end. University students go at 17?! Crazy

Beautiful British Columbia! Some of the way that laws seem to be arbitrarily from province to province is weird but I'm 31 tomorrow so none of that stuff ever ends up impacting me.

You mean like Batman, the vigilante that helps the police solve crimes? Batman Begins is also more of a Batman origin story than a criminal movie. Ra's al Ghul, Scarecrow doing weird shit and all that jazz.

Tim Burton straight up killed The Joker in the first movie and also used The Joker as the one that killed Bruce's parents. It's look alright but it doesn't hold up.

My main concern with Pattison is that he absolutely loathes his time in the Twilight franchise so what makes him decide he wants in on another franchise.

Moolah.

He’s probably decided to take a route you see with a few of Hollywood’s actors that have an indie sensibility but can also draw big box office. Take on an occasional blockbuster to earn a tonne of cash that will free him up to work on a bunch of low budget art-house movies over the next few years.

Tim Burton's Batman might be unfaithful to the source material, but the atmosphere itself will be much superior to me than Nolan ones, the fact that I watched Nolan Batman trilogy (except Batman Begins) only once while I rewatched Burton one countless times tells this.

@Garethw and yes, I agree about Batman begins, it feels much more like a Batman movie than the other two after, I watched Batman Begins several times, while rest of trilogy only once.

So basically the new McConaughey?

You guys both know that Burton’s Batmans are way more unfaithful than Nolan’s, right?

Burton took liberties with major characters origins, but his movies felt much more like Batman movies imo.

I actually wrote that with a specific actor in mind - after hearing him/her explain their strategy in an interview - but completely blanked on who the feck they are. Might be him?
I’m not even sure myself, but he did do a slew of absolutely dog awful rom-coms in the mid 2000s before doing some highly lauded indies later.

Key part might be the whole it being a “TWILIGHT” franchise. Weirdly I think he might do quite well in this as he has an air of how I imagine Bruce Wayne would be about him. Slightly aloof, but confident we’ll spoken without needing to be the centre of attention. Don’t think it’ll be a stretch for him acting wise to basically be himself. Maybe he is a little too pretty but that’s about it.

Main question is still how on earth does this fit in with the DCU, will it be part of the DCU and is he replacing Affleck in the DCU or are we getting another older batman or no batman at all moving forward. Or maybe even some

I think they're just kind of forgetting that exists for now and focusing on the individual films and sequels without much overlap. The Batman supposedly takes place in an entirely different continuity, and I'd guess it's a testing ground for a reboot of the whole thing. Wouldn't be surprised if The Suicide Squad "reboot" is part of the same universe, either.

Not sure if anyone mentioned it before already that Zoe Kravitz was cast as Catwoman.

Before I saw Big Little Lies on HBO I would have had some questions about that casting- but in my opinion she out acts everyone on that show-which is impressive considering the star power in it.

Seems she could be perfect to play the sexy yet emotionally complex Selena.
