I hope there is nothing in the Chelsea rumour, don't want Leicesters team to disintegrate before their Champions League campaign and also don't want him to go to Chelsea as I think he's the real deal.
He wasn't as much of a surprise package as the rest of Leicesters squad last year - don't get me wrong he definitely surpassed expectations but his talent was obvious the season before whereas Vardy, Drinkwater, Morgan etc peaked at a level that is far above what was expected of them. I can remember watching Mahrez in 2014/15 and thinking "there's a serious player in there" although he was raw, indeed there were even murmurings on this forum about his talent. I really think he's not a one season wonder & has got something a bit special and really hope he doesn't head to Chelsea/Arsenal.

I think the recent claims are from Eurosport who also claimed he was close to Arsenal a few weeks back and unsurprisingly it amounted to nothing. I don't think there's anything in this. No way Wenger pays 40m+ for someone who had one top season.

they've said he's not for sale and told Claudio he can spend what he wants, they are ambitious without being reckless, Riyad won't leave this season, if he won't sign the new contract on offer then next season he'll leave to a top European side, so not Arsenal

Mahrez was a key player for a very good Leicester side who won the title and he deserves a lot of praise for an excellent season. There shouldn't even be a comparison with Bale though.
What Bale did was extraordinary, he wasn't part of a good team, he was a team. Going forward under AVB we were utterly devoid of any penetration, so we created practically no chances for him. Bale nearly dragged us in to the top 4 with an awful team and an awful manager, scoring screamer after screamer every single week to win us matches. Our strategy was genuinely 'keep it tight at the back, wait for Bale to do something' for most of the season. No Modric, no creativity, boring possession football, yet he scored 21 league goals. Unreal.
We have some good players now, but nobody who will ever be even close to what Bale did for us. His late goals against West Ham and Sunderland....unbelievable, honestly breathtaking. He was scoring goals every single week that most attackers are lucky to score one of every season. It was surreal , as a fan you ended up expecting a screamer every time he was on the ball, not hoping but expecting. That season was probably the best example of a one man team I've seen. When he left I was terrified.

I don't think we'll see a player carry a side to that extent for a long time. People will say Suarez did it, but I do think that Liverpool side that finished 2nd were a good side even without him, of course he upped their game immeasurably but he didn't carry them the same way that Bale carried us. Other players in that side played well - Henderson, Gerrard, Sturridge, even the likes of Skrtel added goals.
For us, it was basically just Bale hammering in a screamer every week. His final game for us was so fitting, we were utter crap as usual and in the 89th minute he hammers home a worldie.

Mkhitaryan contributes a lot defensively and Mourinho obviously likes that quality to be present in at least one of his wingers, as evidenced in his favouritism of Willian.
I can't see Mourinho buying a player like Mahrez when we already have 'a Martial' rather than 'a Willian' on the other side.

I cannot think of a better example of a one man team than Bale that season. Basically carried an average side and a shit manager with that magic left foot of his. Mahrez was in top form last season but still nowhere near Bale.

Vardy is fine, only played a game and a half though due to the Euro's and then his wrist op, Mahrez hasn't really looked at it but then that's him he'll look like he's a compl;ete waste of a shirt the shread someone and win the game for you in an instant, Demmy Gray has been the star or pre season

There really isn't one, that side was bereft of any quality going forward/creativity yet he nearly carried us to top 4. Somehow. I really have no idea how, because we deserved to be mid table that season.
