Rio Olympics 2016

Yeah you could see Smith congratulating Max during the last gymnast's performance. I think Smith didn't make any mistakes during his routine so it's understandable he'd be gutted.

He did look disappointed, but I think that was all it was. He wanted to win and got beaten by his teammate.
Why wouldn't he be this disappointed though? He has never won gold on Pommel and it is the only event he does. Team event was the other day, this is all about the individual.

Didn't they say he went for his safer routine which was 0.3 below Max's start value.

Bottled it potentially to guarantee a medal but didn't put it all out there to go for gold.

He said in his interview that it was all the negativity about him being picked for the Olympics in the first place and then messing up in the team event. He had a lot of praise for Max.

His start score was lower, and that's because he played it safe. He has another moves which would have upped his start score and maybe perhaps tipped the score in his favour, so I bet he's regretting not going for it now. I think after his fall in the team competition though he just wanted a nice safe clean routine.

Girls who do gymnastics are inclined to be on the petite side, so you are probably right.

There's a flipside to delaying puberty as well. They need a lot of strength to build up the speed to do the more technical, high tariff moves and those moves are so difficult that you need to really know your body. If they mature too late, they learn to move with one body and then they have to learn it again with their new one. Lots of injuries as a result and a lot of women/girls dropout at that point, because what had felt like a natural/default movement suddenly fails.

Cheers. Seems a weird way to do it when the times don't matter much from here on but I guess you've got to whittle the field down somehow.
It makes sense, it's the same as the men. It's how we ended up with two British men in the final, basically sorts out the seeding. The two British women just qualified 1 and 2 so they could also meet in the final.

ya...it is because every time you grow, your centre of gravity changes. Moves become a lot harder because of it, as it requires more strength and control to perform a once easy move.

I really felt it hard around 14/15. Once my hight started to shoot up, things became a lot harder.

Yeah I realise that.

I'm just saying from here on out the sprints a battle of tactics and top line speed doesn't matter as much as it does in other events so it seems a little arbitrary to use that as a cut off even though it's probably the only way you can do it

No, there's like 20 cyclists on track at once

Omnium (sp?) That ones fun.

Yea they just said a word that sounded like that.

Yeah it is.

The people randomly shooting up the banking are doing the same thing they do in the pursuit and making sure they don't spend too long at the front because it's more knackering.

This is the best cycling event imo absolutely nuts.
