Rio Olympics 2016

Cant stand this Partizan atmosphere some of the Brazilians are bringing into the events when supporting their own, Argies were doing the same shit in the Tennis.

Just read they heavily booed him while trying to compete for gold as well. The poor guy, he even cried during the ceremony.
fecking dipshits.

He compared the crowd to nazi germany. It was huge news today here, so he got booed.

He compared the crowd to nazi germany. It was huge news today here, so he got booed.

So first he got booed during the competition, then he got booed because he made a bad booing comparison.

Who's the favourite for tonight's hockey game? I must admit I don't follow hockey at all outside of the Olympics but our team has been performing very well this time. The Netherlands are a hockey nation though so I reckon you're still the better team? I hope it's going to be an exciting game.
That went well for me didn't it . Hope you lot beat Argentinia!

There was further widespread booing last night during the weightlifting after a Brazilian fell behind the opposition. What goes through these morons heads?

In spite of all these booing Brazilian women's Volleyball team lost to China in QF.

They're morons who don't realise booing has no place at the Olympics. I bet half these prats have never seen the Olympics before.

They're morons who don't realise booing has no place at the Olympics. I bet half these prats have never seen the Olympics before.

And the Brazilian guy Lavillenie was competing against didn't even ask the crowd to quieten down.

He kind of did, he looked surprised and applauded Lavillenie.

Booing during a medal ceremony is just plain stupid, just like booing during a minute of silence.
Booing an athlete if you don't support him however is not a big problem in my opinion. It's not "gentlemanlike" but everyone competing on the biggest stage should be able to cope with abit of hate. I didn't have a problem with the way Hope Solo was treated for example, we see (and hear) it every week in the stadia.

In a discipline that requires concentration, that's vile.

You must be one of those savages that go on their phone at the cinema

And Nope.

Yeah I agree with this. Booing during actual competition is fair game. I don't see reason for any outrage on that count.

I was talking about during the event, not the medal ceremony. It was mentioned in commentary too.

He was deeply concentrated on his own performance, he was in a bubble.

Great Britons, can you help me figure out what medals are you in for in the remaining competitions? I see you're in for a sure gold in sailing, have couple of boxers in semifinals, and one badminton player in QFs. Anywhere else you see some medal (gold especially) takers?

Interested about Germans, Russians, Chinese and Americans too...

Farah in the 5000m is favourite for gold.

Cheers!

Some other less known sports? Equstrian, modern penthatlon? Triathlon...official site is terrible, can't even see the start lists yet.

From BBC site GB are should get gold in the 470 Sailing with Hannah Mills and Saskia Clark, with favorites for gold Nicola Adams (boxing), Mo Farah (5,000m), Tom Daley (10m diving), Alistair Brownlee (triathlon), Helen Jenkins and Vicky Holland (triathlon), Jade Jones and Bianca Walkden (taekwondo), the women's hockey team, men's 4x100m men's relay team, Liam Phillips (BMX), Holly Bradshaw (pole vault), Jamie Cooke (modern pentathlon), and Charley Hull (golf).

gb is clearly the greatest sporting nation on earth.

Seems over-optimistic - especially the bolded.

As a general rule i don't think booing is acceptable conduct, least of all while an event is active.

However i can envisage a few specific circumstances where they might be room for latitude: firstly, the participation of a known drug cheat; and secondly, persistent and disruptive gamesmanship which narks the crowd off.

Simply being a competitor of another country isn't enough justification in my view, particularly in those sports where there is no such custom.
