Right Winger... Who do we go for?

Both at Roma currently?
Yes.
Even if this is a little of topic: Check out some of the tactical analysis on how Roma played against different teams in the CL. Di Francesco knows his stuff, not against using youth, only Napoli had more shots on goal per game last season, generally plays attacking entertaining football.

Didn't Thauvin bomb at Newcastle?

All young unproved and present equal risk.

If Richarlison is rated at upto 50mil, I'd gladly pay 60mil for Pulisic.

The Zaha comments are interesting, he's shown great form down the middle for Palace, but he has been here and somewhat failed. Is he better at RW than Mata/Lingard etc? I'd say he probably is - he is pacy direct and a bit dynamic - nothing like we currently have

I've lost hope on Bale and Willian will end up at Barca, although I wouldn't be over the moon with Willian he's a damn sight better RW than Mata/Lingard/Rashford & Martial so......

Barca have Dembele and Malcom and they want another RW?

IMO Leon Bailey would be the perfect signing. Has all the tools to thrive in England (speed, skill, decent physical size, etc), left footed player who has stated he prefers to play on the right, and with age on his side at 20, surely he will only get better.

He's a good prospect, but, despite his stated preference, he plays much better on the left (5 goals 6 assists in 16 games on the left vs 1 goal 0 assists in 7 games on the right).

Willian would be an upgrade on Mata and Lingard for sure on the RW.. Hopefully we get him.

I hope we are indeed in for Mertens. Albeit a bit older, he is accustomed to playing on the right wing, has a good partnership with Lukaku and probably more attainable than the other options. He's also an intelligent player than someone relying entirely on pace so he could give us a couple of good seasons.

a decent short term option perhaps - I wonder how much Napoli would expect for a key player even at 31

This is very funny. Did you see the Liverpool-games? Never in my life have I seen such naive managing and game planning. The manager literally couldn’t have read the other team worse, sticking to a high line and gifting away free goals for fun. Slow and heavy defenders with fifty meters of space given to Mane, Salah and Firmino - when eveyone in the game knows you cannot give away space to said trio. I remember him being ridiculed on here as the game(s) went along.

They supposed to be interested in Darmian. Probably a sensible deal could be arranged there with Darmian and 10M on top or thereabouts. They still have plenty of time to arrange a replacement and Mertens gets his chance to play at big club.

It feels more and more likely that we'll end up with no one. 1 week left to acquire a proper right winger to provide balance to the first 11 that we are severely lacking.

Why Jose isn't prioritising a right winger above anything is baffling. We were crying out for one last season, mix that with the fact Valencia is injured and our attacking prowess from the right is looking dire going into the Leicester game.

He clearly wants one and is reportedly very keen on Willian & Perisic. The club won't spend the 50-60m needed to do it (for reasons which are at least in part, understandable).

that sounds very good - issue is I think Jose may want to hang onto Darmian for a week or two into the season because of injuries

I'd bite Napoli's hand off myself and throw Fosu-Mensah in at RB for the start of the season

Most of our CBs can also fill in at RB for a game or two if needed.

You could even play Young at right wing back and use Shaw for a game or two at left back.

Would much rather us go for Mertens than Willian. Both are short-term options, one considerably cheaper than the other AND a bigger goal-threat. Please pursue Mertens....

Mertens isn't good enough on the right wing. He was regularly benched at Napoli when playing on the wing. He's at his best as a false 9.

Think we will sign Willian in the end.

I would be content with that.

What about Bertrand Traore of Lyon? I've watched him a bit when he was at Ajax and he was very good and from what I can see last season he was very good too: 43 games, 18 goals 7 assist. Plays on the right, is fast and Lyon is not a club that resists a lot when having good offers.

And Mourinho likes him....

It does not look like we will be signing a RW, so just play Sanchez on the right and Martial on the left. The situation is not ideal, but manageable. We should be prioritising a CB and LB.

I did see them, and i do agree with you that he f.ed those games. But what about the Barcelona games or chelsea games? The element i like about him is that he is always going for the win, and doing so in an attacking manner. Sometimes this attacking approach backlashes and you end up with matches like those against Liverpool, but overall it is better than trying to always defend to victory against all team that are not shite.

I agree that we probably won't get a new RW, but, we won't be getting a LB, anytime soon.
The club are putting all their efforts into a CB, to ensure that we are a strong defensive outfit. Attack seems to be a low priority.
I am fully prepared for us to buy nobody, because the Glazers are looking to save money.

I don't think we're looking for an out-and-out winger. It'll be a right sided attacking midfielder whose best attribute is his movement from outside to in, à la Lingard, Mkhitaryan or Mata. There's a reason why Rashford and Martial aren't regulars there.

Willian fits the bill best out of everyone we've been linked with recently. I think it's him or bust this window.

People are desperate to construct their own teams rather than looking at it from the point of view of the system that Mourinho has been gradually building towards.

I’d love Zaha to get another chance. Fast, tricky and the ability to cover as a striker if required. He had a good season with Palace but I think he’s ready to step it up further.

I was just about to suggest zaha. Has really grown as a player. Didnt get a fair crack at the whip first time round. However i feel he should wait until maybe a manager who will give him freedom is in

Zaha would play the Jose counter attacking style perfectly. We could break at pace with Zaha, Sanchez and Lukaku. He is surprisingly hard working for a flair player.
