Right Winger... Who do we go for?

Gonna Be an Unpopular Opinion, but honestly I think Rashford has a future on the RW, more so than a striker. When you watched him in the world cup, he ran the channels moved wide and took on his fullback. He also has a good cross. I would be thrilled to play a lineup like this against teams that are going to setup more defensively:

Lukaku
Martial - Alexis - Rashford
Pogba - Fred/Matic

Mata started in 28 games (or so) on the right side of the wing for us last season (in all competitions). What I cannot figure out is why the elephant in the room has not been correctly addressed for numerous years now. Namely, the RW.

Let's just assume tactical approach doesn't change, which is fair to assume given the last two years. We're going to drop deep. We're going to defend deep in a low block. The opposition teams are going to try and fill our half with their players. We're going to look to hit the space on the break. We win the ball back, I see Sanchez on the left, nice and quick, but not in space. He's marked. Look right, Mata is there, has a little more space, but he's insufficient in speed or dribble to hit on the counter to at least relieve some pressure. Try and play it to Mata on the right to feet, well, within half a field there's not going to be much space to pick out little passes. A Willian, or anyone with any speed, technique and natural inclination to play wide would make a world of difference and I cannot believe that this has gone unaddressed for so long. It's gotten to the point that it's almost a parody.

Dembele, Costa and Bale are staying in their clubs. Malcom already sign for Barcelona. Mahrez for City.

So, which available RW is the best option now?

Perisic & Willian. Either would improve the side overall I think.

I really think willian would improve us. He adds pace and directness, can dribble out of tight space, and more importantly he is a great crosses which would benefit Lukaku a lot.

Pulling a name from recent history, what about thomas muller. He needs a fresh challenge i think, hes a mourinho type player.

.................matic........
............fred.......pogba....
Muller........................sanchez
..............lukaku.........

Looks more balanced than what we currently have

We already know that Chelsea want >80M for him, no way should we hand them that much money for someone like him.

Muller is not a winger, it would be similar to Mata playing their currently. We need that option of a winger who can go past people and create goals/assists.

I completely agree, but i think we've left it pretty late again. We will probably overpay for whoever we go for.

If someone with better value for money is available, then i'd prefer that, but i'd rather overpay for Willian then have no one to play there at all.

Bailey or Willian imho. Rebic if we're looking for a budget option.

holy fecking shit no please god. I think I'd stop watching if we ever signed Muller. Absolute talentless twat.

Thauvin.

+ Actually plays on the right wing, unlike half the names we are linked to.
+ 25 years old, prime age. Not inexperienced potential nor an old superstar we buy for their decline.
+ End product. 34 ligue 1 games last season and 33 goals + assists. Only beaten by Cavani with 34.
+ Good at everything you want an attacker to be good at.

Oh wait. Scrap this, he doesn't make enough interceptions, better sign Rebic or Willian instead.

Weak defensive contribution, so there's no chance Mourinho will be interested.

I just want Mourinho to play Sanchez on the right, is it too much to ask? He played as a RW and up front for Barcelona and Udinese so why not use him there??

We have the answer in the squad but the manager doesn't see it, it's infuriating.

Yes it is too much because Sanchez on the right was a long time ago now. He is a superstar and probably negotiated his role in the team before signing with us. Going on the right would be like accomodating other players for him when a player of his status, it's often the opposite that happens.
With Malcom now at Barca why not take a crack at Ousmane Dembele. I doubt he is Jose’s cup of tea but at this point I don’t really care what Jose wants and hope Woody makes this a vanity signing. Feck the idea of valuing a workhorse winger over someone who could be incredible. He’s already got Sanchez who puts a shift in and Dembele can be absolutely lethal at opening up defences, pace, ability to beat a man and best of all the killer pass in his locker.

It can be Woodys gift to the next manager
Do you realise how much he cost them in the first place ?

I liked what I saw from Rashford on the RW but the problem is that he isn't that good dribbling 1 on 1. He can cross well, shoot well and has pace to burn but lacks the decision making. Needs an attacking coach to coach him in that role otherwise there's no point.

I doubt he’d be available for less than £70 million.
Make that 100

Leverkusen are keen to hold on to the Jamaican international as he is under contract until 2022.

The club's hierarchy value Bailey at around £100million considering his potential and because Barcelona shelled out £96m for Ousmane Dembele last year.

Bayern had a bid of 60 million turned down, allegedly

I think so too especially if we get involved but thats besides the point anyway, if he is moving we should be in for him regardless of price

Definately mate. Would be a great signing.

Unfortunately, it’s looking ever more likely that we will be financing this deal for Chelsea by taking a 30 year old William off their hands

 so no to muller?

I dont want him either was just imagining the type i could see mourinho after

It really does doesn't it? I think again (after Costa last year) we are going to be scratching our heads after the season starts watching some of the RW's who have moved and wondering why were we not in for them?

Bailey, Pulisic, Willian, all affordable options we could consider.

I'd like to see us take a punt on David Neres of Ajax. Why do we always have to wait for everyone else to sign the talents and develop them into world class players? He seems a proper Fergie type of signing.

Seems perfect

Because there are hundreds of them and we already have plenty of our own?
