My third pick is Inter legend and World Cup winner

That would be good, keeps things moving in the interest of everybody, others could follow your example too - PM someone after you in the queue to help you post the pick when you are not going to be around

Sounds fine - you've just got to hope that nobody picks him before its your go though!

I've forwarded my selection to Ralaks plus one other as evidence. If I'm not asleep I'll do it myself but if I am Ralaks will be making my selection for me.

It's an interesting one but I just couldn't resist!!!! I fooking loved him when I was growing up

Hard to do that a few picks ahead, though - either you risk having your one choice picked beforehand, or you have a first choice pick and a back-up pick but risk having the other person 'steal' your other pick. Don't think there's much to worry about in the second case because there's very few in the early stages that people won't have already thought of, I guess.

Yeah I know, I'm just trying to get a second choice and it should be ok!

If you are going to PM someone your 1st choice pick and 2nd choice pick, it has to be someone whom you get to pick twice before him. As of now, there are only three people fitting that criteria - DanNistelrooy, IBleedRed and myself as we have all made our third round picks. You can PM me if you wish to:)

DanNistelrooy - Eric Cantona, David Seaman, Dunga
IBleedRed - Lothar Matthaus, Ian Rush, Giussppe Bergomi
Polaroid - Michael Laudrup, Stefan Effenberg, George Weah
Team Brian GB - Franco Baresi, Jurgen Klinsmann
K Stand Knut - Paolo Maldini, Jean Pierre Papin
Ralaks- Marco Van Basten, Didier Deschamps,
Cal?- Roberto Baggio, Fernando Redondo
TheHorse'sMouth- Mathias Sammer, Gary Lineker
KM- Romario, Paul Gascoigne
Desert Eagle - Dennis Bergkamp, Tony Adams
Crustanoid - Peter Schmeichel, Gheorghe Hagi
Nani Nana - Oliver Kahn, Ronald Koeman
Snow - Hristo Stoichkov, Fernando Hierro
Gio - Ruud Gullit, Jurgen Kohler
kps88 - Gabriel Batistuta, Walter Zenga
Brwned - Frank Rijkaard, Marcel Desailly

I've just done my first choice for now. And PM'd Ralaks and DN. I'll have to worry about it going in the AM but with only one pick before me, I reckon I'll be ok

I said when I picked Klinsmann only seven choices ago that I was on the verge of choosing three others, as luck has it they have all been chosen.

Winner of the European Cup and La Liga six times, nearly 1,000 professional appearances and 126 caps playing in goal for Spain, I pick Andoni Zubizarreta.

I was considering him, there is a lack of great goalkeepers available now.

The interest of this thread is how we all hope for the same players, even as the picking process goes further and further

Really shows how tight and sharp our football knowledge, backed with the internet, can get under the pressure of competition

Once you go past Schmeichel and Kahn then I don't think the difference will be that significant in the votes - people always overlook the 'keepers.

I think Kahn is overrated quite significantly, I was very surprised to see him go as a first pick - I am not even convinced he is the best German keeper available.

So going by your logic there is a German keeper available that is better than Kahn but that you did not pick ahead of Zubizarreta

His identity might come in handy at this point of the discussion

Hard to pick, but I'm going to go with the heart or something equally gay and pick one of my favorite players!

Brian Laudrup

Quite clearly I think Zubizaretta is better than them both.

Well, it doesn't matter what you think, but what the RedCafe crowd will

And on that instance I believe they would have a proclivity to be in agreement with Brwned, which is why I made that first pick.

I know who you're thinking of but he just doesn't have the same reputation and really, that's all that matters in terms of the votes. He was given European 'keeper of the year more times than even big Pete, he's got a huge reputation. Why is it that you think Kahn's so overrated? Despite his presence he'd let in a few too many sloppy goals than you'd want?

Though It'll also depend on what defence sits in front of them, especially when that defence has Baresi in it.

I don't think he was as reliable as Schmeichel was, or for that matter Seaman before he went off the boil toward the end of his career.

Brian Laudrup

Good lad. Top man and Denmark's best player in 98, 96 and probably 92 as well.

As you can see I couldn't choose Schmeichel since he was picked from under my nose. As for Seaman, it is all a matter of personal opinions which are the underlying bedrock of this game. Not sure what your point is in fairness.

:wenger: Yeah I don't think I see your point.

That you have picked Kahn but you have not begun putting a defence in front of him with Maldini, Adams, Baresi, Bergomi, Desailly and Hierro gone.

Bit odd to hand out assessments of my team's structure a mere 2 players in - not that I'll have you notice my other pick is incidentally Ronald Koeman, the sweeper of Netherlands' winning team at EURO 1988 and of four time Liga winning Barcelona.

My attempts to refocus your attentions has clearly failed...

There's hardly much difference between the keepers in their prime anyway. Like Brian Laudrups time at Chelsea is moot. It's all about players in their prime and Brian was a European Champion with and underdogs side.

Shut up. I know who that is and I will pick him later.

Anyway, for my 3rd round pick after Pol stole Weah...

I'm amazed a certain player hasn't gone yet. Fingers crossed.

Out of interest, who was rated higher - Zenga or Zubizaretta? I took a bit of an educated guess picking Zenga ahead of him.

There's a keeper I'd rate above both of them still on my list. But my thinking is that the 11th best keeper in that era makes less difference to the 5-6th best than midfielder...
