Rest In Peace, Denis Law

He was my dad's hero, his favourite player of all time. An idol for a generation of United fans and a true legend. A sad day. RIP.

The King.

This. A true legend. A fabulous player. Way, way before my time, but my elders told me about him. And just watch his goals, he was amazing.

A Manchester United legend and a footballing great.

I hope they celebrate him in Italy.I'm sure they will.

I first saw Denis in 1963 when United beat Spurs 4-1 at White Hart Lane. Denis scored a hat trick and David Herd scored too. From that day on Denis was my Hero and to me the greatest player who ever lived. Denis was electric, simply lethal in front of goal and he had an incredible desire to win but also played with an impish sense of fun. Law, Best and Charlton were Uniteds "Trinity" the greatest players of their generation....but Denis was always "The King!"

I'm slightly too young to have seen Denis but he looked like an absolutely outstanding all round forward from the footage I've seen. What we would give to have a prime Denis Law now.
There can't be many left from the great 60s team now.

Oh how we could use a player like him up front now...

Sad news. The holy trinity gone. RIP

Just read the very sad news, he was one of our ‘Holy Trinity’ alongside Charlton and Best, and was a wonderful character both on and off the field. Even when his back healed goal for City condemned us to relegation in the 73/74 season, he memorably didn’t celebrate and asked to be substituted shortly afterwards. He’ll be sorely missed and always be remembered fondly by the United family. RIP

A sad day when any former great passes.

But a lovely time to remember an incredible player who achieved so much in red during Sir Matt’s time and helped to lay the foundations for what the club became after that.

I was so sad to hear this news a while ago.May he rest his peace and his family find solace in the arms of the football family.
A true great of Manchester United, Scotland and the game itself .An icon.
I could never quite make my mind up who I loved the most, George or Denis but love them I did.
Two players who epitomised the United of the 60s along with their fellow Ballon D'Or winner Bobby Charlton. Three Ballon D'Or winners at the club at the same time !
They are re- United now.
Thanks for the memories Denis. Thanks a lot .

Weirdly just heard about this from a City fan in a pub in Ipswich. Loved by both sets of fans.

RIP Denis. Genuine legend and by all accounts a wonderful human being.

One of our greatest ever legends. Legend. RIP Denis, you will be sorely missed king.

Such sad news. My father’s favourite player of all time. The definition of a legend

In 2006, the missus and I came back to Manchester to visit family. She was taken ill so I took her to the Alexandra Hospital in Cheadle. In the waiting room was Denis Law. I couldn't help myself and said hello and, like a big kid, thanked him for all the great memories. He laughed and was very gracious to my wife. He was ill himself and could have walked away but he left me (and her) with another memory to cherish.

Yes, unlike the performative "non celebrations" that players do against former clubs nowadays, Denis looked genuinely distraught after he scored. It was an instinctive backheel, I think when the realisation of scoring hit him, he looked physically sick.

As it turns out, United would have been relegated even if we had won, so the backheel didn't relegate us - but of course people conveniently forget that!

Bill Shankly brought him to England when he managed Huddersfield Town. Another bit of trivia: Denis came over to Manchester and was in the crowd when we played Sheffield Wednesday in the FA Cup just after Munich. I wonder if he ever thought on that night that he would one day captain United to glory.

Sad news. Aside from his legendary status at United, I had the fortune to meet him a couple of times at work events and he came across as a good, genuine guy.

I also used to see one of his sons and his family regularly, again a really nice bunch of people, so my thoughts are with them tonight.

Sad to hear we have lost a Manchester United legend.
Rest in peace King.

He must have been one of the best in the penalty box scorers and was so sharp & quick - probably the only comparable player would be Gerd Muller.

RIP Denis - the King !

Did he reject a knighthood at some point? I always just figured he was a Sir...

Also a legend of Huddersfield Town too which I thought was really cool as a kid - that someone could be a legend at both United and Huddersfield.
