Rest In Peace, Denis Law

A club legend of the highest order and in any conversation for the best centre forward to have ever played for the club.

Rest in peace

Such sad news. I never had the privilege of watching him play live but saw video tapes of his goals when I was a kid.

He seemed like such a nice, humble guy as well. I remember when Van Nistelrooy beat his record for European goals for United, and he was so gracious about it and seemed genuinely happy for Ruud.

Obviously his family will be devastated right now but hopefully they’ll take some small comfort in how much he meant to United fans and many others.

There's something supremely poetic about his last kick of the ball in professional football being...that goal.

RIP

Sad day. The first King of Old Trafford. A goal machine who did not relegate us, contrary to popular belief.

RIP Denis.

Wrote a full biography about him covering his entire career, detailing his tactical journey from Italy to United and beyond.

So ahead of his time and also very misunderstood. Not a typical 9, so much more than that and you can see why he was a Ballondor winner and a hero for so many… he was so so talented and goals were just a very small part of his overall game.

Top 5 British player of all time.

A very sad day for the club and for football. Another link to those great days gone. Denis was always one of my dad’s heroes. What a striker, he would cost over £100 million now. RIP to a true legend.

One of the legends and a representative of a once beautiful game where footballers were entertainers and amazing characters, not mercenaries drenched in greedy corrupt oil money. RIP.

I shed a tear when I learned of this. He was my idol when I was a kid. What a player he was too. My abiding memory is the home game against Forest in 1967. They were breathing down our necks and at 0-0, their goalie was saving everything. He turned a point-blank Law shot round the post but from the resulting corner, Denis leaped up and with a bicycle kick, hammered home the winner. I saw him score so many over the years but that one stands out. RIP Your Majesty.

With Messi and Ronaldo gone, I'm confident he'd have recreated his ballon d'or achievement where he to play now.
