Renato Sanches

That is truly an insane amount to reject for an 18 year old with only about 20 appearances under his belt.
Whether we go back might depend on the managerial situation.

If our next manager is jose, expect renato, andre gomes here very quickly.

We seem to go that route of spending crazy money on talented youngsters. Lets hope we dont forget to buy some established players too. If the club think this guy is the real deal, like Martial, i dont have a problem with it, as long as we bring in other established players too.

As long as they all do a "Martial" rather than a "Depay" I dont care

We obviously think he's the real deal and bracket him in with Martial.

Tbh I would rather us buy young and take a risk than keep trying to buy Neymar and muller.

If he's as good as he looks/we think then spend whatever it requires, money's there to be spend.

I guess we'we been following him for quite some time to offer them so much money, money that could get us more established midfield talents of similar age like Tielemans or Bazoer.

I would expect us to sign him in the summer then. I have never seen him play. Is he a central midfielder or a number 10?

Looks like a central midfielder to me - likes to make bursting runs through the middle. Very strong, holds the ball up and gets stuck in to the battles. A raw talent, but looks promising. I can see why United and other English clubs would want him - fairly unusual for a young foreign attacking player to have flair AND grit.

not for long - LVG will coach that out of him soon enough

I provide entertainment whilst being spot on most of the times. I have no fan club, just sensible people like @Stack in this thread who have undoubtedly seen me being right more often than not. I provide no excuses when I am called out on one off turn of events that result in me being associated with trivial miscalculation and my assessment of players are oftentimes done securely and responsibly.

I am not trying to debate with you about anything, you're nudging imaginary e-elbows in the unwashed groins of the rest of the caf to show off how you're engaging me in a pretty meaningless discussion by intentionally seducing my attention with a nothing comment... no doubt you're sunny brown now basking in pride and self fulfilment after having shown you are on 'speaking' terms with me.

I agree with this.

While I really think that you're spot on more than not, the way how you make your posts is undoubtedly great.

Spending the sort of money that we did on Martial was always going to result in other clubs wanting ridiculous money for their youngsters. We've set the bar now, unfortunately.

If these Portuguese clubs could find a way not to need 3rd party help for players, they would really be in the money.

Anyway I imagine we want to get him before the Euros kick in and risk him playing amazing. We saved ourselves a huge hassle by getting Martial last summer, had he stayed at Monaco and gone on to destroy teams at the Euros, he would have been Madrid/PSG bound.

delighted with you Revan.

Is he even a good player? Never seen him play, but those are just mad prices. Martial at least I heard of a long time ago and knew he was touted as a very promising player, and I had seen him a handful of times and saw he was a ridiculously talented youngster, but Sanches just seems like a pretty normal, box to box central midfielder.

What we supposedly offered, never mind what they want, is pretty crazy for a kid with less than 20 senior games under his belt, especially when most have been played in a 3rd tier league.

@Sly should be able to confirm, but I doubt he'll even make the Portuguese squad for the Euros.

Is this guy with Mendes?

We need to stay well away from him when purchasing a prospect after the Bebe debacle.

Do you actively use difficult words in order to sound intelligent?

Just broke down the left and picked out a guy at the back post who pulled it back for a tap in for Mitroglu. Strong run and good cross.

Stop playing FM

There are people you know that watch foreign leagues and underage football. Tielemens and Bazoer play for renowned and accessible sides in Anderlecht and Ajax. Both have been talked about since they were 15. Napoli offered 25m for Bazoer in January and were rejected - shows how highly Ajax rate him.

In my opinion, I'd prefer Bazoer too. Seems like a better bet as he seems a more complete player and very versatile. Unless he ends up like Maduro...

Is he showing?

I was impressed by him, the reports mention his involvement in the goals and it was his ability to switch gears in midfield that got Benfica attacking after a lethargic opening 30 minutes, but what I liked was he played as a proper CM, he didn't run into blind alleys when he drove forward with the ball, he released it at the right times and played with his head up, and he played some incisive passes but also played plenty of simple ones and then moved into positions to get it back. He also held his position in the 2 man midfield sensibly and made some good challenges.

Obliviously the team Benfica were playing were not very good but I was glad to see much more to his full game as a CM than the ability to run with the ball quickly from midfield, he has the basics and composure for the role, he's not one of these #10/AM types that can play in midfield in other leagues but wouldn't cut it in the PL.

Thanks. Been impressed everytime I watch him. There is definitely something about him, don't know how far he is gonna progress but is ahead of schedule.

His physical attributes have probably helped in this regard but his maturity is just one of those rare things for young players.

During the winter I was quietly hoping United signed him. Call me crazy for this unpopular view but I wanted him under LVG for at least 6 months, he seems to teach young CMs a thing or 2 that serves them well longterm.

Perhaps you're the odd one out, because virtually nobody knew of Martial before he signed for us. Most people who had heard of him knew him from FIFA or Football Manager, and he had started less than 20 first team games if I remember correctly. I don't know anything about Sanches, but the whole situation seems incredibly similar to the Martial situation. If our scouts think he's the real deal then I'll trust them with that, because sometimes, like with Martial, it only becomes clear how good they really are once they join us. If we're really willing to spend that much on him then the club must be pretty convinced that he's a big talent.
