Renato Sanches | Loaned to Swansea

Pretty poor signing by Bayern then considering the money they paid and they're willing to let him go and have an purchase option for Swansea.

Two of the best midfielders at the Euros, who subsequently signed for major European clubs, now ply their trade at Swansea and West Brom.

The clearest indication yet that the Premier League is a behemoth on the cusp of dwarfing the other leagues. PSG, Bayern, Barcelona and Real aside, there's nothing much in terms of appeal to tier 1 and 2 players in other leagues now. The Premier League is where they all want to play (£).

Both of whom have also failed at their respective clubs.

Woops. Is EPL getting the leftovers? :nervous:

The addons to his purchase went up to €80m! Horrible purchase.

Though if he does go to Swansea, Bayern would get their transfer fee back (just about) and they'll probably sign Goretzka on a free next summer so as bad as this signing has been for Bayern, they won't have made a significant loss.

He was never good enough to start for a top club and I doubt he will ever be, but maybe now he can start every week and improve.

Is it really that extra ordinary for a young player from a top team to go on a loan to a mid-table team or even relegation fodder? He is just 20.

Let's see how he does at Swansea. Could be a coup for them.

It's just another step before he's back at Benfica next year

The fact Bayern were shilling him around 12 months after buying him with all decent sides staying away should say something.
Especially at that price

Are the sources saying there is a buy option reliable? I haven't seen it reported anywhere major.

Di Marzio's the source for the Buy Option details, generally considered very reliable but can be hit and miss I think

Worth a punt by Swansea but tbh I'll be shocked if he does anything in the league. He has been ridiculously over-hyped and is nowhere near the player some people think. Would like to be proved wrong but I see nothing in the guy to suggest he will make it.

Is this Sigurdsson's replacement? If so i can see Swansea being one of the prime candidates for relegation.

So the guy so many people wanted United to buy is now going to Swansea ? ..ok

Ambivalent about this.

He's a top talent, but I'm slightly irked about the time and money that must have gone into this signing when our need for a proper defensive midfielder, a number 10 and a left footed winger are SO much greater.

We also need a striker if Llorente goes, but it looks like Bony will return, and he was great for us.

That said, Clem doesn't seem a guy who likes an out and out 10, so perhaps Sanches will play a will play a role a little bit inbetween an 8 and 10 in a 4-3-3. But the fact that players like Patrick Roberts, Bertrand Traore and Krychowiak have all been available and not (seemingly) been pursued is irritating.

According to german kicker there is no buy option and the loan fee is 8.5m €

Probably the most overrated young player in last few years. So many good talents around, and the hype around him was unreal, he literally showed nothing in his career so far.

For defensive midfield, I thought Roque Mesa showed some promise against us. Clearly has some ability, and works hard.

No argument with the other points.

Reminds me a bit of the Tevez/ Mascherano to West Ham deals. If he excels, I doubt Swansea will be the only ones looking to snap him up for a decent fee.

He's not really a defensive midfielder is the problem. Enjoys a tackle, puts in a shift, but really loves getting box-to-box, but was really shunted there because there was no one else. The only defensive midfielder at the club is little Leon, and we're in danger of flogging the fella to death if we don't get him at least some proper back-up.

He has attitude issues if you are to believe some journos. Too big for his own boots.

I don't think that's it. He seems shy and excluded from the team. Always walking alone with headphones on when other players are laughing and chatting with each other. It was somewhere mentioned, that he has a tough time learning German as well.
IMHO he needs a support system and Clemente might offer that. There being no buy-option shows that the door at Bayern is still open and that they are not looking to simply offloading him after 12 months.

Excited to see him in the Prem. Great signing for the Swans and I think it's a good move for him too. He needs guaranteed starts more than anything now, and bigger clubs wouldn't be able to offer that at his age.

Sadly, I agree with this. If there is no option to buy, his time at Swansea will provide Bayern with a massive transfer in a year or so from now.

Why did you let Jack Cork go? He was a limited passer but I thought he did well when played in that position?

Divided opinion, but I haven't clue why he was let go without a natural replacement. Broke up play, disciplined positionally, decent touch, kept it simple. Was the only proper DM we had with 30+ league games in him per season. Wihtout a purchase in the next 24 hours we have a BIG problem.

Carroll, Clucas, Fer and Sanches are all options with a lot of legs, I think it could work if you up the tempo and press higher. Obviously only against the teams around you, not the wisest decision against better teams.

My man, NONE of those possess natural defensive/holding instincts in midfield. Not even close. You could POSSIBLY adapt Sanches, but why would a club like Swansea loan a player like Sanches for absurd amounts of money and try to convert him to a new position for the benefit of Munich?

Truth is I wish we could ditch at least one of those, preferably Fer. Clucas is a massively underwhelming signing, especially if we're playing him in midfield. We have lost a lot of what made us special at a Premier League club and so many fans don't even care anymore you'd probably be shocked.

I forgot about Mesa, isn't he more of a deeper player maker like Britton. With the right set up I still think it could work, Carroll and Clucas aren't typical brainless English players, Clucas is a bargain for me and should link up nicely with Sanches.

Mesa is a 'classic 8'. Breaks up attacks, then drives forward. Clucas could be decent, but it looks like we haven't a clue what to do with either, yet.
