Redcafe's Top Ten Manchester United players of all time

1. Best
2. Ronaldo
3. Charlton
4. Law
5. Cantona
6. Robson
7. Coppell
8. Schmeichel
9. Scholes
10. Van Nistelrooy

Like all top ten lists, it's hard to leave players out. For example, omitting Keane, Rooney, Ferdinand, Bruce, Greenhoff, and Buchan is a travesty.

Feel like a lot of older players are going to be horribly overlooked. Jackie Carey, for example. Captain from 1946-53, 1949 PFA player of the year and played in nine positions during his 17 years here? On paper he should be mentioned more but he's not as big a name as the other players people will throw into their team without having seen them.

Any other overlooked older players we should at least mention?

1. Eric Cantona
2. Andy Cole
3. Cristiano Ronaldo
4. Peter Schmeichel
5. Alan Smith
6. Ole Gunnar Solskjaer
7. David De Gea
8. Wayne Rooney
9. Ryan Giggs
10. Rafael Da Silva

Any other overlooked older players we should at least mention?

Well, there are too many, really, and it depends on what the criterium is - pure talent, longevity, status as hero of of the fans...and so forth.

But Byrne. And Foulkes. And Nobby.

In no particular order (too difficult I think) and only the ones that I've actually seen:

Keane
Giggs
Scholes
Ronaldo
Becks
De Gea
Rooney
Vidic
Ferdinand
Gary Neville

I'm only picking players in my time:

Bryan Robson
Peter Schmeichel
Roy Keane
Ryan Giggs
Eric Cantona
Rudd van Nistlerooy or Scholes
Wayne Rooney
Nemanja Vidic
Cristiano Ronaldo
Edwin Van der Sar

Although I'd like to include Irwin, Pallister, Ole, and Kanchelskis in his prime on here.

Top 10 players in my lifetime and I've not looked at any other people's answers so as honest as possible:

1) Ronaldo
2) Scholes
3) Keane
4) Rio
5) Cantona
6) Giggs
7) Rooney
8) Schmeichel
9) Beckham
10) Vidic

By my homespun definition of greatness, not necessarily just as footballers (though they're not too shabby either) but for what I feel they represent about the club.

Duncan Edwards
George Best
Bobby Charlton
Eric Cantona
Roy Keane
Ryan Giggs
Bryan Robson
Paul Scholes
Ronaldo
Harry Gregg

Gregg is a bit of a wildcard, but while Schmeichel is the greatest Gk I have seen, I think Harry Gregg is probably the greatest man to have played in goal for us.

I don't understand how some people are putting in players they never saw play.

Be interesting to see which Ronaldo comes out on top, Cristiano or Christiano.

Edwards
Best
Charlton
Cantona
Keane
Ronaldo
Robson
Scholes
Giggs
Schmeichel

Probably in that order as well. No Beckham, no Rooney, not even Vidic or Stam. The hard one is Edwards, as I obviously never saw him play. Yet by all accounts he was a man-beast who was no less a footballer than Pele, Eusebio or Beckenbauer.

Haven't seen some of them play, but going by what I have seen, their general reputations/what others have said about them, and the impact they've had upon the club:

1. Bobby Charlton
2. George Best
3. Paul Scholes
4. Duncan Edwards
5. Cristiano Ronaldo
6. Ryan Giggs
7. Eric Cantona
8. Peter Schmeichel
9. Denis Law
10. Roy Keane

Also, I did a thread like this of my own back years ago, and these were the eventual results:

5. Charlton
6. Best
7. Rooney
8. Ronaldo
9. Evra
10. Vidic

Isn't it JOHNNY Carey? That's an unfortunate point at which to get his name wrong.

Guys if Best is in your list he should be top of your list.
