RedCafe's Top 50 Albums

Yeah Kings of Leon maybe, last album was very good indeed. Think the scene is ready for a new superstar band though

Could be right, not seen anyone yet to fill those boots yet though. The Arctics next album will be an interesting one, will either cement their place in music history or see them drop down the ladder, it's the old difficult third album syndrome for them now. Personally I think it will be great, I rate them highly, plus they have age on their side.

I love the Monkeys, best band around at the moment, by a fecking long long way. They've already passed the second album test, third album will not be a problem. I have every faith. Alex Turner will go down as one of the great songwriters, this is just the beginning

Can't argue with this, I tend to agree.

At such a young age to be making the music that they are speaks volumes for their talent, can't wait to hear their music mature as the years go on, some great albums ahead I feel.

Here's the list i came up with; being 19 years old i wouldn't even begin to know the immediate sort of social impact of some of the older albums i have recently listened to and some weren't easy to listen given that i am slightly used to modern mainstream-polished high production value sounds but nevertheless i asked my fathers, uncles and aunts about what they'd recommend and tried to listen to as many as possible.

I'm posting it earlier because i reckon i might become too concious and wouldn't be able to decide on the order; suprisingly i already had a top ten in mind...the rest i have jumbled a bit in the order which i liked more but it's difficult because each is brilliant in its own right; and i had to try to strike a balance between personal liking of certain genres and trying to remember each album's influence as well. Got tix for the NME new bands tour in a few weeks, Nomes

The Cribs
Joe Lean and the Jing Jang Jong
Does it Offend You Yeah?
The Ting Tings

All heavily tipped in the music press (I read Q and occasionally NME). Don't know any of their stuff though

See franco, another one with Def Leppard in their list :D

These are brilliant, go on their My Space page there is stuff to download there, a live DJ mix set that is great. Me and a mate were thinking of going to this too, not sure if I'm going yet though.

:eek::eek: No. 28!!

Nirvana are gonna win this, I tell ya

Good to see a few votes for Wu-Tang

Should have been Pyromania though, although it suffers from poor production compared to Hysteria. Have you actually listened to either of these?

Honourable mentions to the likes of Pearl Jam (Ten) and others who i hope can recover from not making the cut.

I think I bought Hysteria with my first wage from my first Saturday job.

AGED BADLY

Over-produced bollocks

Hysteria was the one i heard first so that might be it as well; it's incredibly cheesy yet their songs were so damn catchy.

Nah, it's worthy of it's place, Pyromania I mean, it was a pioneering album in it's day, influenced a lot of bands and changed the scene.

"And I want, and I need, and I love, Animal" Brillliant stuff.

You don't get lyrics like that anymore :D

"Rocket, yeahhhh"

Love it.

OK I admit it's a bit of a sentimental pick but still good.

If i`d have made my list five years back Nevermind would have been higher. I don`t think it`s aged as well as other albums from around the same time.

I think the Wu have superceded Public Enemy as Rap`s greatest name. I rate Liquid Swords higher than 36 Chambers though - and Supreme Clientele was just outside my top 50.

Spammy, did I get your top 4 right?

Nowhere near me ol' mucker.

10. Godspeed You! Black Emperor - Lift Your Skinny Fists to Heaven Like Antennas.
24. At the Drive-in - In/Casino/Out.
25. Godspeed You! Black Emperor - f#a#oo.
26. The Manic Street Preachers - Holy Bible.
37. Faith No More - Angel Dust.
47. Isis - Oceanic.

All in my list. Who the feck are you and why the feck haven't you posted more you feck?

Aside from ticking me off once about liking Green Day and pointing me toward the Dead Kennedy's.:p

Was that you Nearc?

Gazza...try and hunt down a copy of Dancing in the Street, the documentary series the BBC put out a few years back...looks at how music developed through different genres from the Beatles up til late 90s. Good stuff on 60s soul in one episode.

crikey.. my list will definitely be different from most posted yet that's for sure hehe

there'll be no Oasis, Nirvana, Led Zep, Pink Floyd for starters... Radiohead might be there, not necessarily though :)

Ray Charles, Eric Clapton, BB king, Stevie Ray Vaughn, Prince, The Ramones, Rage against the machine, should be in atleast a few of your lists...
