RedCafe's Top 50 Albums

Interesting list franco, supprised at your lack of Floyd, Beatles, Zepp etc, I was expecting them in your list, but fair enough if you haven't heard them enough.

I do take exception at OK being at 47 though :D

Shit, that's three albums I've commented on already today. I'm staying out of this thread from now on* or I'll waste all my time arguing about music. :nervous:

* I will examine every single list posted and pass comment

Yeah, I'm guilty as charged on the old classics. I owe it to myself to listen to that stuff but never seem to get the chance. I'll add it to my list of NY resolutions (starting with Led Zep and Hendrix). I really can't get into the Floyd though, lord knows I've tried. And I find the Beatles over-rated (sorry... :nervous:)

RedNome, have you listened to New Order? The band Joy Division became after the singer topped himself. Their work from about 1982-1989 was class and some of the stuff in the 90s and 00s is quite good too. A bit less dark and more poppy than Joy Division, but some very good albums and singles in their back catalogue. Would recommend, they very much influenced the indie scene.

Have to say I have never liked New Order, Love Joy Division though. I think if I'm honest Ian Curtis was the big draw for me, his vocal sound for me was right up my street, reminded me a bit of Jim Morisson. As you have referenced, I found New Order to Poppy for my liking, have always been attracted more to the darker side of music.

Edit: I should probably give them more of a try than I have if I'm honest, Blue Monday was of course class.

And OK Computer?

Stop fecking editing, I'm quicker to the draw than you :D

I fear for Radioheads overall position in the final list (may have to fudge the results )

Hopefully Spammy will come through for me.

To be honest, I never really listened to it that much, maybe that's why it's so low. I know all the singles so well, and love them, but for whatever reason, I never got into the rest of the album as much.

I'll re-visit it, you have my word. I have over 4 hours a day iPod time at work, so I'll put in some study

There's a lot of Radiohead haters out there tbh mate, that's why I predicted Nirvana would fare better

Have you had a look at my list yet?

Thoughts?

Right, I'm resolved to download me some Led Zep, and some Hendrix

(Def Leppard? Shame on you!)

Moby has now bit the dust for Toys in the Attic by Aerosmith, can't believe I forgot that one.

I want to put Superunknown in my list but can't decide what goes.

You're not the first person to make that argument. They wrote a bit quite a bit of 'dark' stuff in the early 80s but they did go quite poppy later, lost them a few fans I think.

At the very least you should check out Ceremony and In A Lonely Place, the first songs New Order recorded, which were actually the last songs JD wrote but never recorded. Dark, but brilliant. If you haven't heard them I'll upload them for you when I get in.

Nice one Gaz, I'll have a listen to those then, cheers.

Led Zep II is the only album of theirs I can listen to all the way through. Before they went a bit cryptic and over the top (great band though, obviously). Ramble On is on the mp3 player at the moment, such an under-rated song.

Def Leppard goes mate. Get that shit outta there!!

;)

Glad to help

No fecking way, the Lepps stay, that was my favorite band in my early days, and the first gig I went to as well, there's no way that I couldn't have it on my list, it would be dishonest of me.

Fair enough, your choice (shakes head in disbelief)
