RedCafe's Top 50 Albums

To be honest mate my list is mostly going to be metal, rock, hardcore, ska, punk and sub-genres of the above. I don't expect many outside of stobzilla, ret, loops and michaelness to recognise a lot of my chosen albums.

This is going to be interesting. I'm gonna have a lot of punk records as well, don't think my list is going to be very popular.

I'm gonna guess what will be number 1 in this thing...

I reckon....

....

Nevermind - Nirvana

I'd be suprised if it panned out like that, top 5 for sure though.

Have you checked out my Se7en thread in the General (wrong forum) you might like :D

Downloading Songs In The Key of Life.

Listened to Dark Side of the Moon the other day, after feck knows how many years. fecking brilliant album.

Songs In The Key of Life is a good'en, just going through it at the mo. You don't realise how influential he's been till you list to his stuff.

indeed. one of those artists who you find yourself singing along to even though you don't really know the song...but you've heard it one the radio and such for years.

Right boys a few must listen albums for you:

DJ Shadow - Entroducing - This is one of my all time favorites and has been hugely influencial since it's release

U.N.K.L.E - Psyence Fiction - Just brilliant

Leftfield - Leftism - IMO the greatest dance album ever written, over 12 years old and still sounds amazing now, I use this to test any new audio equipment I buy.

Death in Vegas - The contino Sessions - Again, just brilliant.

Cocteau Twins - Treasure - Beautifull album from the eighties, Liz Fraiser on vocals a voice to die for.

Portishead - Dummy - I fecking love this band, Beths vocals sends shivers down my spine, will be in my top ten easily.

Massive Attack - Mezzanine - Maybe a controversial MA pick, some might go for Protection or Blue lines but this one is my favorite as it's so dark.

I'll list some more later but you can't do your lists until you have heard these IMO.

Get downloading :D

Got em all Nomes, 'cept Death in Vegas and Cocteau Twins ;)

Thought you might somehow

You'll love Death in Vegas I think it'd be right up your street.

Cocteau Twins maybe/maybe not, they are an aquired taste.

Death in Vegas have always been a bit hit and miss for me, some brilliants tracks and some distinctly average

Cocteau are class and always will be

On the whole I'd agree with this, but this album stands out for me, no fillers just great tunes, it's the only one of theirs I sit down and listen to all the way through.

Just re-discovered Tricky's 'Maxinquaye'. Not heard it for years. Used to feckin love that album back in the day. It's goin in the list

You are all tone deaf dirty whores... except for Spoonez. Good on you... "Songs in the key of life" is great and deserves to be on such a list.

Let me add that such lists are stupid, and the people that make them are going to burn in hell.

Does anyone here even know who the Funk Brothers are/were? This is a trick question!

Indeed great album.

Primal Scream - Screamadelica another one that may make the list too.

Oh and Maroon, it is possible to like more than one genre of music as you will see when my list is finished. Maybe you should have joined in if you know so much, just a thought.

I agree with you about these sort of lists. I think they're silly but if people want to do them I have no problem with it, just have fun I suppose.

The Funk Brothers... true legends. James Jamerson in particular, a real musical genius who should get more recognition.

I've just read further into the thread and realised there are a few Stevie Wonder fans in here. Stevie Wonder himself said that Innervsions was his favourite album, though I personally prefer SITKOL. Check out Fulfingness' First Finale as well. Together with Talking Book, those four are probably his best albums.

As for What's Goin' On, that'll be in my top 5.

So who's gonna be first up? Nomes?

Mine's almost complete, but I wanna see some others first so I can pilfer (plus, the first one always gets picked to shreds)

So here's the final panel list:

RedNome
Mehro
Spammy
Hammer
norwegian-red
Cornell
Primetime
francobaresi
Shotgun raisin
Spooney
Lizard King
doogie_style
Ivor Ballokov
Kristjan
Nearco
SmashedHombre
Wolverine

You've all got till midnight 31st of January to get your lists together and posted.

Remember it's 50 albums placed in order of greatness, I may be able to make a top 100 list from all your lists together, I won't know until they are all in though, we'll see.

Happy list making.

That's what I'm talking about

Nah, not necessary to change around in the build up.
I will post mine here anyway. The subject is intriguing and woke my curiosity. Fun pastime.

I have been in many a discussion about this, and I have stubbornly held on to the belief that the best album is the one that tops the sales. Sales don't lie.
This time though, I will post the ones I have listened to the most. Personal favorites.
