RedCafe's top 20 Manchester United players of all-time results

I'd say my knowledge is pretty high. It's an age thing, most old people would say George Best, you're right.

I imagine it's more of a "having seen him play" thing than an age thing.

Just to muddy the waters, here's a quote from George Best on Ronaldo from 2003.

"There have been a few players described as the new George Best over the years, but this is the first time it's been a compliment to me."

But did Best really think Ronaldo was better, way back in 2003?

Go look at almost any neutral best of all time lists and Best will in or near the top ten.

Near or in Top 10 list, is not the same as better than Pele or Maradona. Also, if you are referring to that Fifa list it was in '90 which mean that players like Zidane, Messi, Ronaldo, C.Ronaldo, Ronaldinho haven't start playing or they were not in their best. Quite possibly that he wouldn't be now on Top 10.

Great quote if true.

Not really. He's easily the most talented player we've ever had.

Natural talent: Best

Overall talent and contribution: Giggs/Scholes/Charlton

I'm already feeling sorry for Madrid fans, they'll probably get the same tripe for years to come even if he fecks off to City next year

My post was about his placing being too low here and him being better than Ronaldo, context got lost tbf though. I don't think he is better than any of those players.

A lot of random players are called the new <insert player>. To assess that you would have to think about who the others are. When Giggs was being called the new George Best he was a better player than Ronaldo was in 2003.

Knowing George, he may have been referring to looks and pulling power.

You replied in my post that was a response to a poster who said that he was as good or better tha Pele and Maradona.

1. Cristiano Ronaldo-1012 points

2. Paul Scholes-866 points

He also said Best was better than Ronaldo, which is what i was talking about.

Off topic but any of you heard that story about a journalist who told Best that Cryuff was better than him. The following day in a match between NI and Holland Best dribbled across to the other side of the pitch just to nutmeg Cryuff

I think that Best at his best was in tie / slightly better than Ronaldo at United at his best (thought not as good as Ronaldo at Madrid). But, if it counts numbr of years/overall contribute than Charlton or Giggs should have won it.

Yes I heard, it is really a funny story but still Cruyff was the better player.

Cristiano Ronaldo, 292 games, 118 goals, 61 assists

Best United Player of All Time

The whole problem with this poll, is that depending what age you are will affect the way you vote.

I mean Duncan Edwards, who Bobby Charlton always says was the greatest footballer he ever saw is in 10th place!!!???

Not even a mention for the incredible Tommy Taylor, possibly the most underated player in here.

189 appearances for United and 131 goals, 19 appearances for England and 16 goals. Chew on those figures Ronaldo!!!

I think a lot of people are considering the current Ronaldo in this.

Even me when I voted, I admit.

No question, that's what I'm pointing out. I see much of the Ronaldo brigade is stats driven, well, Best's stats are comparable but playing almost 500 games and consistently scoring over 20 goals a season for longer than Ronaldo's 2-3 year "peak".

That is exactly it.

This poll is not a fact.

It is something a few people of varying ages think on Redcafe.
