Music RedCafe's Favourite Albums Of All Time Contest (Round 5)

Got to make sure the latest mumble rap garbage makes it, but Highway 61 Revisited and Led Zeppelin IV can go eat bricks

I mean, I could revert back to how it was, just thought the 2010-24 is a big gap.

I'll have a think.

If anything the list needs more mumble rap. I knew I'd mostly be picking white boy guitar music but you'd expect a bit more diversity in taste generally.

I wouldn't say it needs more mumble rap specifically but some more rap/hip-hop definitely. I think we'll see it in the next round.

The Hives - Veni Vidi Vicious
Hot Snakes - Audit in progress
Queens of the Stone Age - Songs for the Deaf
Joe Strummer & The Mescaleros - Streetcore
At the Drive-In - Relationship of Command

Aye, you'd expect Kendrick and Frank Ocean in particular to loom large.

Then again, Linkin Park released five albums since 2010 so maybe that's the entire list.

Rule change (updated OP): Top 8 will progress from round 7 as it's nearly 1.5 decades. The resurrection round has been increased from 5 progressing to 7, making the final a solid Top 40.
Years from now there’ll be heated debates in pubs about which was worst… this mid game rule change or City’s 130 charges. They got to you didn’t they @Dirty Schwein ? honestly I don’t care

Yeah that’s the expectation but going by what we’ve seen so far they’ll be nowhere to be seen and someone like Foo Fighters will get loads of votes.

A bit surprised Madvillainy isn't getting more mentions. Not a personal favorite, but I would think it's one of the most beloved albums in its genre.

It just missed the cut for me. It’s one of those I appreciate greatly every time I listen but sometimes just not in the mood for it or it’s not as easy to have in rotation.

Yeah, I guess that't close to my take as well. Although it was further from making my cut.

Nah, don't, the gap is fine. Otherwise recency bias just gets in the way.

If we still had white text, I'd add that I'm just saying this because I'm an old fart and don't know if any good music came out lately - but alas.

Polyserena - George
Stories from the City Stories from the Sea - PJ Harvey
Parachutes - Coldplay
In Rainbows - Radiohead
Some People have Real Problems - Sia.

No. Keep it changed.

Just because Cheimoon is an old fart who hasn’t listened to much new music. A lot of us have!
Against:
Cheimoon, WAPR, Alto, hellhunter

For:
Solius, sullydnl, justsomebloke

If more people want the change I'll do it but currently sitting at 4-3.

Count me as against. I'm not sure I could name 7 albums from the last 15 years, nevermind 7 favourite ones
So we're punishing those who have listened to more music, in a music voting contest. Make it make sense.

Not sure how fiddling with the rules will help as I can't think of a good whole album since 2010. Good songs yes. Great albums no.

Keep it changed. For anyone saying there isn't great music in the past 15 years - you clearly haven't been looking hard enough.

Oh mate there's so many. Possibly not to your taste maybe? But there's been some incredible stuff.

I could name you about a hundred, right now. So maybe that's not a great reason why there shouldn't be one vote per decade. If you can't think of any, then just don't vote.

I'd say compared to the 80s and 90s there are fewer truly great ones, but more good ones. And you have to do more work yourself to stay abreast. That said, it's not that hard - if you follow a couple of good review sites, like Pitchfork or The Quietus, that helps. As long as you do that, Spotify presents no obstacle to staying focused on whole albums. And there's still lots of really good ones.

Really? I can't think of a single one.

Maybe just Bowie - Blackstar or Cohen - You Want It Darker - but in truth not truly great whole albums and lauded mainly as it was their decent last album.
