Music RedCafe's Favourite Albums Of All Time Contest (Round 5)

Never been my cup of tea but would have expected White Stripes being mentioned more often - weren't they super popular at that time?

They were on my list, but I can understand if people find Jack White himself rather irksome.

Nearly went with 8701 myself, or Confessions. But Joe is my man.

"I can tell you lying, cos when you're replying... Stutter stutter, stutter stutter".

Although the Mystikal verse is hard to listen to knowing what we know now.

Me and my brother used to always argue who is better between Joe and R. Kelly... I think I've won that argument now

Deux - Decadence
Oppenheimer Analysis - New Mexico
Jan Jelinek - Loop-finding-jazz-records
Michael Mayer - Immer
Ricardo Villalobos - Thé Au Harem D'Archimède

For the Illinois-heads in here. What's your fave track from the album?

Mine rotates but I love The Predatory Wasp atm. Was CPD for a long while.

Chicago. The first song I knew from him.

I always preferred the original version anyway, even though the Mystikal remix was the bigger hit. I still listen to R Kelly now and then, too

Probably Casimir yeah. But this post made me look through the album tracklist, and I remembered that I actually find the album loses its way towards the end, and I often don't listen to the last handful of songs.

So, I edited my list @Dirty Schwein

Ignition (Remix) is such a banger, I hate myself for it. I wish someone safe would do a cover. Like Tom Hanks.

I'm sorry weetee :(
It's ok.

I have a ton of Rap albums and without even owning a single Puff Daddy* one I doubt the collection would survive a critical inspection.

*wasn't rap anyway

Blink 182 - Blink 182
The Killers - Hot Fuss
Linkin Park - Hybrid Theory (just for you DS)
Sum 41 - All Killer No Filler
Deadmau5 - For a Lack of a Better Name

Yeah it doesn't end super strong but still some good tracks towards the back end. They Are Night Zombies and The Tallest Man stand out. Quite a good chunk of it is interludes too.

Since I Left You - The Avalanches
Kid A - Radiohead
The Mirror Conspiracy - Thievery Corporation
Richest Man in Babylon - Thievery Corporation
The Eminem Show - Eminem

Never liked Linkin Park much. A couple of great songs but that era was the start of the end of mainstream rock / metal for me. Felt like a big downgrade on what came before. But I know they were a big deal and would be played all the time.

1. TV on the Radio - Dear Science
2. The Strokes Is This it
3. Arctic Monkeys- Whatever people say I Am
4. Radiohead - In Rainbows
5. Sufjan Stevens - Illinoise

  1. Nick Cave and the Bad Seeds- Abattoir Blues/The Lyre of Orpheus (double album)
  2. Amy Winehouse- Back to Black
  3. Pennywise-Land of the Free?
  4. Bad Religion- The Process of Belief
  5. Depeche Mode- Playing the Angel

Great shout. Beautiful album.

Kinda like how we get that clear picture of DS. Linkin Park, Nic Cage and Alex Kidd
..rocking combat trousers with a bandana (stuck in the metro).

The lcd mentions got me thinking that I was heavily into the DFA output at the time..but been very underwhelmed by Sound of Silver while the "lcd soundsytem" one was full of great club music - yeah (crass version) especially. Thought about putting it or Echoes / Rapture or TheJuanMcLean in.

3. Take Off Your Pants & Jacket - Blink 182
4. A Grand Don't Come For Free - The Streets
5. Oracular Spectacular - MGMT

This is an impossible decade, includes the peak of a lot of punk/nu metal bands as well as the emergence of all the indie rock from the middle of the decade onwards.
