Music RedCafe's Favourite Albums Of All Time Contest (Round 5)

1. Linkin Park - Hybrid Theory
2. Matchbox 20 - More than you think you are
3. Creed - Weathered
4. The Killers - Hot Fuss
5. Sean Paul - Dutty Rock

Unwell is the soundtrack to my life and Matchbox 20 is amazing live.
Here's my submission to validate my list making integrity. @Solius @HTG . If you're not posting a video of yourself singing one of your submissions then that says a lot more about your list integrity over mine.

Wanted to say the same thing. Making photos like that would be huge dent to my concert-goer-integrity.

Other albums I had shortlisted:

Billy Talent - Afraid of heights

You can still pick that one next time, it's from 2016.

1. Radiohead - in Rainbows
2. The White Stripes - Elephant
3. Queens of the Stone Age - Songs for the Deaf
4. Arcade Fire - Neon Bible
5. System of a Down - Toxicity

Nice list, I actually bought each one of those back then.

Thanks. Finally some approval.
Looking at the list, Radiohead really need to tour. I’ve managed to see Arcade Fire, SOAD and QOTSA live and got to see Jack White. The closest I came to Radiohead however, is Colin Greenwood playing with Nick Cave and the Bad Seeds.

It’s best for everyone involved that way. If I actually started to dance, I’m sure the band would stop playing out of confusion and disgust. The closest I’ve yet come to dancing at a concerts were my involvement in mosh pits.

Ah, right! I saw another Billy Talent album in my list from the 2000s, and then figured AoH is much better - but forgot about its decade. :)

Haha stop I have this whole image in my head now of you trying to dance.
Last concert I went to there was this couple that was high on something other than life and it wasn't pretty. I usually have people around me who are total assholes and I hope that they would tell me that I look like an idiot. I'm trusting in that.

Green Day: American Idiot
New Order: Get Ready
Amy Whitehouse: Back to Black
U2: All That You Can't Leave Behind - best U2 album post Rattle and Hum but what a low bar that is.
Powderfinger: Odyssey Number Five - three great songs but not really a great album - then again Nevermind won the 90's round and that only has 3 great tracks and lots of meh filler.

Close but no cigar
Coldplay: Parachutes - a great album at the time but their rapid decline over the next couple of albums, to the rubbish they now put out, has spoilt this for me. Annoyingly.

What a huge decline from the 1980's and 1990's. So many albums have 1 or 2 good tunes but so few were great whole albums. I don't even listen to the ones I've listed much at all.
I think if you're a fan of rock music you can see at this point that it didn't quite hit the heights as much as previous decades with all the pop-punk, nu-metal, Indie and garage rock revival stuff. I think there's an idea that rock just became a bit stale after the mid 90s, but i'm sure there are lots of people that would argue that's not the case.

1. Guns N Roses - Chinese Democracy

2. Eminem - Relapse

3. Kings of Leon - Only by the Night

4. Linkin Park - hybrid Theory

5. Biffy Clyro - Only Revolutions

Whatever People Say I Am, That's What I'm Not - Arctic Monkeys
Where The Humans Eat - Willy Mason
Hearts and Unicorns - Giant Drag
Frank - Amy Winehouse
Begin to Hope - Regina Spektor

Love her and this reminds me how much I love this album: Florence & The Machine - Lungs

Yep, depends what you mean by "rock" really.

The alt-rock @Wibble liked in the 90's (Nirvana, Pearl Jam, Smashing Pumpkins, REM, etc.) kinda got replaced in the 00's by more indie-orientated rock (The Strokes, The White Stripes, Arcade Fire, Arctic Monkeys, The National, etc.) If you're fine with that shift then there's a lot of rock to like and a lot of it is appearing on these lists. If not, then not so much.

Plus a lot of those more popular 90's bands didn't make albums in the 00's that really lived up to their 90's stuff. The obvious exception being Radiohead, who have legit album of the decade contenders in both decades.

1. Is this it? Stokes
2. Funeral. Arcade Fire
3. Takk.. Sigur Ros
4. Everyday. Cinematic Orchestra
5. Man on the Moon. Kid Cudi

Notable mentions:

Oracle Spectacular. MGMT
Hybrid Theory. Linkin Park
Silent Alarm. Bloc Party
Agætis Byrjun. Sigur Ros
The Unseen. Quasimoto

Could've put the two Sigur Ros albums in the top 5 but tried to keep it more varied.

Radiohead - Kid A
Radiohead - In Rainbows
Arctic Monkeys – Whatever People Say I Am That's What I Am Not
Bon Iver - For Emma, Forever ago
The Knife - Silent Shout

Impossible for this list to not be Radiohead heavy for me as this period contains two of their masterpieces.

Yeah - and that depressing (musically) alt-rock stuff is exactly what I really don't like about the 90s.

1. Rock Action (Mogwai)
2. Horses in the Sky (A Silver Mt. Zion)
3. Vampire Weekend (Vampire Weekend)
4. The Crying Light (Antony & The Johnsons)
5. Is This It? (The Strokes)

Honorable mention:

I'm Wide Awake, It's Morning (Bright Eyes)

Is a Woman (Lambchop)
Antidotes (Foals)
The Fountain (Clint Mansell)
Ghost Tropic (Songs: Ohia)

Oh I can't believe I forgot about this one!!

1. Is This It? (The Strokes)
2. Kid A (Radiohead)
3. Because of the Times (Kings of Leon)
4. Demon Days (Gorillaz)
5. Sound of Silver (LCD Soundsystem)

I feel a lot of nostalgia for this one.

Too many to choose from in this category.
Dare I say this period produced the best music?

1. MONO & world's end girlfriend - Palmless Prayer / Mass Murder Refrain
2. HAVE A NICE LIFE - Deathconsciousness
3. CARISSA'S WIERD - Ugly But Honest: 1996-1999
4. STARS OF THE LID - The Tired Sounds of Stars of the Lid
5. EMERALDS - Allegory of Allergies

@Dirty Schwein , I know you said you're going to lump the finally round as 2010-24, but I think 2020-2024 should get its own round. It's half a decade. I'm worried about the integrity of this competition.

I was gonna give this round 7 finalists but a bunch of people thought that was not right so I changed it. Fur what is worth, I agree with you.

I mean I already have 4 locked in for the next round and about 15 to pick the other 3 from. Extra would be nice.

Rule change (updated OP): Top 8 will progress from round 7 as it's nearly 1.5 decades. The resurrection round has been increased from 5 progressing to 7, making the final a solid Top 40.
