Redcafe Snooker

It's a shame Ronnie didn't meet Steve Peters back in 1996, we'd be eagerly awaiting number 40 instead of seeing if he can get 19.

YES!!! Ronnie takes over Hendry in yet another. Ronnie is the king of snooker. FACT

I think Hendry will be happy with it. Did you see his reaction when Ronnie said he didn't care much about winning in a post match interview in one of the big tournaments (possibly world champs)? He was disgusted and disappointed in him and said if it's true he's fallen in his estimations.

I think he holds Ronnie in very high esteem and wants to believe that the guy who eclipses him in terms of talent has got there with a winning mentality otherwise it makes a mockery of his achievements.

Shame the final didn't live up to the standard of the rest of the competition. Had been some cracking games up until that bit, but Perry seemed to lose his way after going 4-1 up. Would never have guessed that with 17 frames played, there would only be three centuries.

Still, very enjoyable tournament with some excellent 6-5 results. See you all back in this thread on April 15. :)

Hendry looks much happier since he retired.

Interesting that he's entered the World Senior Championships this year, the prize for winning which is a spot in Qualifying for the World Championships. Obviously he'd be a massive outsider if he made it to the Crucible but I wonder if part of him is thinking I would love to get back there and eliminate Ronnie!

All former World Champions already have an active invite for WC Qualifiers I believe. Still, could be nice warm up for the real thing. :D

LMAO, the only when Hendry could beat Ronnie is if he got pissed off with something and shook his hand early again. No one beats Ronnie but Ronnie, which unfortunately means boring, game players like Selby and Ebdon have a chance, cause they can rile him up.

Claymore could beat Ronnie, sucking him off under the table to distract him.

And surely that's a legitimate tactic? Snooker's often a long game, involving endurance, patience and tactical play etc. If Ronnie falters when that's brought into it then that's a successful tactic which has been used by his opponent, no?

And peak Hendry swept up in the 90s in a way not even Ronnie ever really did...Ronnie has a certain longevity Hendry struggled to manage, since his successes faded in his 30s, but to suggest a guy who won the World Championship five times in a row, with it not having been won more than twice in a row by anyone since then, would get undoubtedly wiped off the table by Ronnie without doubt if both players were in their primes is ridiculous.

By the way, I made a quiz where you have to match the snooker players picture with their nickname if any of you guys want to play! (Snooker isn't very popular on the website )

Call it what you want mate, prime years, whatever.... but Ronnie's best game beats Hendry's best game and I doubt you'd find many fans, experts, ex or current pros who'd disagree. Also Ronnie had to contend with more top players in his era, Higgins for one, same age, both 28 ranking titles, 4 worlds! Basically another Selby.

There is debate between Hendry and O'sullivan, Hendry has more worlds and rankings, Ronnie has the most centuries, most mazxis, most masters titles, fastest 147 and second in ranking titles with 5 worlds but in terms of play, excitement, ability its not as close IMO. Right now you have Ronnie, Judd, Ginger Robbo, grinder Selby, all capable of winning stuff. Then a cluster like Fatty Murphy, Marco even Higgins behind that who can snatch finals.

Know its all banter and good fun but recently re-watched the Ronnie 147 v Mark King where he asks what the high break prize is after the first red, LMAO. Mark King pulling faces and ref Janver Haas scrambling all over the shop. Ronnie then makes the break, joking and pulling faces along the way then shakes hands at 140, King and the ref both pull faces before Janver begs him to pot the black 'for the fan's before he smashes it in.

I know some of you love Hendry, Selby, the Ginger Aussie, bribe taker Higgins or Fatty Smurph, but come on, they could only dream of that snooker ability and confidence!! Not to mention his protests against WSA and making a deliberate 146 lol. O'sullivan may lack mental strength and the attitude for best of 33 World Champs but he is the best ever, NO ARGUMENT!!

Also if you think he's balls at asking what the prize is first red/black, or the great shots, joking and face pulling at the situation isn't a great show of ability before he smashes in that last black when asked to, then look at Irishman Ken Doherty bottling the final black for the cash prize + Honda NSX sports car at ultra slow pace lol.

:lol:Matt Smith looked genuinely scared when Ronnie shot the target in the eye with his first two shots.

I haven't seen it yet! Is it worth watching?

I find Ronnie both fascinating and awkward at the same time. He's such an arrogant, fragile phenomenon but at the same time he is still the most normal bloke in the world.

It's a gentle, soft watch, but I like it. He's humble about getting battered by some of the pool players too. I did the 7am shift today, so amiable TV is where my head's at. The prices of some of the antique pool tables are insane.

I'll definitely watch it soon. I know he's got so much respect for American pool players, it's a totally different discipline. When he had a go at it about 5-10 years ago he had Earl Strickland give him a bit of a tutorial and he said it was like trying to learn chess. An exponential amount of possibilities from each shot in comparison to much more limited number in snooker. Then there's the cue mechanics. Snooker is so compact and mechanical whereas pool is all about the whip and loose elbow.

Ronnies about as flair and creative as it gets at snooker but he can look lost for ideas on a pool table.

He played a weird game where you had to pot consecutive balls. Odd variant and there's so many.
He gets a bit nerdy in the tip factory. Reminded me of the Masters when po-faced bbc reports were talking about him moaning about having a hard tip. Even my missus, the queen of anti-double entendre was laughing.
I think he plays that bloke next week.
Agree the games are very different disciplines. Selby won a couple of titles I believe.

Nothing worse than a hard tip to be fair.

Was it 14-1 or something similar? It's what Paul Newman's character calls real pool in the colour of money. Basically the same as 9 ball but with 15 balls. Seriously tough.

They had Hendry waxing lyrical about the joys of a soft tip. Bleurgh.

It was 'continuos pool' or something- apparently got edged out by 8 ball. Basically you play to 100 and just keep potting consecutively- they rack up again when it gets to one ball left. They were getting giant breaks, hitting 30-70 in a row. Quite cool though- you beat on the point spread, ie 100-90, you pay me a tenner.
They film in the Color of Money place too.

Watched the trailer for the show, and some cnut proper bigs himself up, something like "I'm one of the greatest athletes ever born"

That guy was ok tbf. Was really old and not a picture of health.
Weird the yanks wear a strange two finger glove thing when playing. Never seen that here.

Neil Robertson vs Ronnie O'Sullivan at the moment, Robertson, in the first frame already playing as slow as humanly possible
