RedCafe Cricket Draft

Can people please hurry this along? We are almost done.

I'm after Zen, but he hasn't picked yet, has he? I mean his pick is invalid because it was already chosen, so what's the go?

My opinion is that it is his fault and he should have checked. I don't make that decision though.

Very slow today...weekend effect i guess.

I don't suppose we're going to have a matchup today. If Mjj and Stretch do get on within the day, they should put together their team selection and writeup and PM them to KM so we can get it started early tomorrow at the least.

Err Omar you're supposed to PM me!

Sorry but no one PM'd me, so i thought thats how it was going :p
Just start one match today. We have waited tooo long

1. 16 Stretch Vs. 2. 13 MJJ

3. 1 KM Vs. 4. 14 Mightberight

5. 15 Donadol Vs. 6. 5 Zen

7. 12 Crappy Vs. 8. 9 kps88

9. 10 R-Indian Vs. 10. 11 Desert Eagle

11. 6 Interval Vs. 12. 4 Unitedfan 101

13. 2 Omar Vs. 14. 7 ha rooney

15. 8 nm03 Vs. 16. 3 AldoRaine18

It would be good to get a game started but with how slow things are moving today, i don't know if its worth it. It would be a pity to have a matchup decided with 5 to 10 votes.

You can exetnd the time to 2 days, but atleast start a poll

Nah start it from tomorrow morning. More people log in during weekdays

Also I hope no one does strategic voting where they purposely vote against the stronger team.

Everyone should also be forced to make posts to justify their votes, so that people don't just get other posters to vote for their team.

Only those in the competition, a sentence would suffice,

I think he meant only the participants should have to justify their votes, everyone else can just vote without giving any reason.

I'd also like to vote - outside voters can also remove some player bias.

No point making silly rules. People should be encouraged to give reasons if possible but anybody should be able to vote and however they want.

I'm actually hoping there's more outside voters than participants though thats unlikely.

Now that its over, who's left that didn't go.

Batsmen, i'd say

Sanjay Manjrekar could've been an option for someone who needed a steady middle order guy
Greg Blewett for those who had any Aussie quote left and needed a decent opener
Gus Logie was a very useful middle order bat though his stats aren't excellent for those who were picking based on stats
Marlon Samuels, the West Indian opener is a decent player
One of the Bravo brothers wasn't picked. I can't get their names right but wasn't the little Lara clone left out?
A few Pakistani openers - Rameez Raja, Taufeeq Umar. Kamran Akmal not being picked was a little surprising

Anybody else? Less bowlers but there were a few I wouldn't be totally ashamed to have
Monty Panesar for anybody who needed a spin option
Was Hilfenhaus picked? I didn't pay attention
Maninder Singh was a bunny with the bat but was a decent bowler

A few others but the wife is staring at me. We were about to go out for lunch.

Murray Goodwin will be my revised 12th pick I guess -_-

I was surprised Bruce reid got picked so late. An average of 24 with over 100 wickets, worse bowlers got picked before them

Kambli has a better average than most batsmen (he had a very short but ridiculously high peak)

Roshan Mahanama and Andrew Hudson are very good Test batsmen but don't have high averages, the averages seem to get higher in noughties but I would pick them to save or win a test over most of the batsmen from the noughties.

Also there is a bias towards spinners from the subcontinent but they are playing on wickets suited to them more often than say a competitor from England/zim/sa/wi.

No one picked Chris Lewis, I thought he was a pretty decent option to have.

I guess I am biased by my watching cricket in the 90s. Watching Ravi Shastri and a lot of others play ODIs like test matches, makes me feel that they would be better suited to playing tests especially against some the bowlers they are going to come up against.

I don't think anybody could've picked Kambli. Did he even play a test outside the subcontinent?

A few of the others you've mentioned were okayish but i don't see too many they could've been picked ahead of.

I was tempted to take Kemar Roach. Not enough evidence to be sure yet but he could turn out to be something special.

That was the first name i had in mind when i saw who was missed. he has a fabulous average if you discount his the very end part of his career.

Sajeev and me had a good conversation on this. Sajeev, the problem is, this game has a fair bit of PR to it. You'd rather have players who were seen rather than forgotten. Mahanama was a good pick, I'd have gone for him, but he isn't nearly the same batsman in foreign conditions. Plus, if I had to pick a man to save a match, it'd have been Russel Arnold. Similarly poor average but gritty and a bowling option.

I'm surprised noone picked Nayan Mongia or Rashid Latif. They're better options than some other keepers picked.

Right chaps, I'm ready to go. Busy with my write up for my team. KM, do I just PM it to you and you will sort out the poll?

Sorry lads big power failure in North India right now. Will see what I can do. I can still make a poll but you have to post team players etc stuff by yourself.
