Really proud of the team tonight

Would rather have lost 3/4 nil and try to get back into the game instead of parking the bus, Rojo and Valencia were great.

I was proud of them after the Madrid CL defeat when Nani got sent off. I found us absolutely cowardly today after the red. We had no intention of even trying to play any football. We defended well yes but we showed no courage and attack at all.
Thought we played well going forward before the sending off. Men back without the ball but had men forward when we attacked.

You are crazy. The confidence would have been shattered. We still have to play them again remember? Plus going for it would have drained us for Thursday.

I really don't see the hype with this Chelsea side. Clear gulf in class is a tad over the top when we more than matched them before the sending off.

We harassed them well in the opening 10 minutes but we lacked composure to do anything when we had the ball. Oliver the clown ruined our game plan but once it happened there was only one winner and in certain parts it was a training ground routine. We defended well but I have seen plenty of mediocre teams pull of defensive performances like that with no ability to formulate a proper attacking move. There is no hype, they are a better side than us. Much more cohesive with a few genuine match winners. Not like they are one of the best sides in Europe or anything.

Yea. I was happy with our performance once we went down to ten men.

Just concentrate on the Europa now.

It really shows how deep our crisis is if proper and long-time United fans are proud we matched Chelsea for 35 minutes.

Shambles of a performance IMO, as frustrating as Bournemouth game. Of course this ridiculous red card didn't help, but there was no passion whatsoever. If it wasn't for Costa being poor and Dave's efforts it would've finished 2 or 3-0. Pogba was tragic, once again extremely wasteful and completely unreliable - and yes, I won't cheer myself up with this out of the world potential, he's turning 24 this year, playing in top flight for many years, spent few years in England, I believe I can expect at least some effort from him, not fecking jogging and throwing hands around. Than again, we didn't create a single clear chance (not even a non-clear one probably, bar Rashford's solo effort). So yeah, I'm anything but proud of the team tonight.

Happy for Rojo, Valencia and DDG though. Also probably for Ander, as the first foul was never a yellow card and I can't blame him.

Madness. The headlines from that would've been incredible. The confidence loss would've tanked our season. There is no way any sane United fan out there would take a four nil loss over what we just witnessed.

Can never be proud of losing and not even scoring a goal. We're Manchester United ffs

I'm surprised by the reaction here.

The odds were stacked against us going in to the game, let alone after the red card.

If we'd of taken a hammering, it would've hurt the players. As it is, they continued to carry out instruction, accepted the circumstances and understood that bigger challenges lie ahead.

With the exception of Fellaini and Pogba, I thought every player did what they could.

D'you think Mourinho thought the players were crap? No, he would've been encouraged by the fact that they didn't waiver in their responsibilities.

Some of you are being unfair.

Small time imo. Proud of not losing more to the league leaders?
We gave a good account of ourselves, that's about it.

There was a 4 minute period when chelsea just passed it around from a corner and only felliani tried to chase it down.

Useless.

It's a cup game 1 0, 4 0 there is no difference.

Should have thrown more men forward, cowardly tactics when losing the game.

Should just have played a reserve team / youth players if that was the case.

Both were superb, most pleased for Rojo who has taken a ton of stick on here. ``You aren't an Argentinian centre back and a complete bag of shite usually.

There are some idiots on this forum. It was a good performance by the team who put in a good shift again. The constant stream of games have not helped us one bit.

Do me a favour. The game was gone. Chelsea were fresher and stronger. Our priorities lie elsewhere.

Pragmatism isn't a bad thing in football.

I'm delighted we're out of the FA Cup. We've struggle in the league in games we should have won easily because the players have been playing too many games. We've already won a cup. We need absolute focus on Europa and Premier League now. If we'd beaten Chelsea then you'd have Spurs in the semi's and City in the final. The team will be in better shape for the more important stuff avoiding monster games like that when it's only the FA Cup. For sure would have been nice to win it tonight and I thought we did very well in difficult circumstances but I'm quietly happy the team will have more time to focus on the bigger stuff now.

I wouldn't say I'm proud, but I'm not furious either. A 1-0 loss without our first choice team and then being down without Herrera, a midfielder, to 10 men is expected against Chelsea at home. This was the one competition we could afford to lose out on too. Europa and top 4 are far more important.

Also I know it's no secret, but many posters in the matchday and player performances threads have some issues. Like they need a psychologist or something.

Thought we did as well as could be expected with a man down, some important players not available and a big game to come on Thursday which we have to progress in.

I'd like to see Chelsea without Costa, Hazard and have Matic sent off at Old Trafford with trying to rotate a player or two as well.

People can say that's just excuses, but in the real world it counts.

Not a terrible day, given the circumstances, but this is a bit embarrassing. Pride in defeat? Come on.

I wouldn't have called it a proud TEAM performance. 4, maybe 5 players performed with the required fight, the rest being average, and 2 of them pretty poor.

If avoiding a collapse is something to be proud of, then yes, we can be proud. Beyond that I don't see it. The players showed spirit considering the circumstances but you could hardly call that a positive performance. We're clearly not a very good side at the moment and it's a frustrating experience.

Couldn't blame them for not going all out at the end. Extra time was the last thing needed this week. Europa League has to be the priority.

Without Zlatan, Martial, Carrick the 1st 30 mins we were more than holding our own and looked threatening.. the red card swung that game and it annoyed me like hell because it was pure stupidity on Herrera's part but we more than matched Chelsea for those 30 mins so that's something positive to take forward considering the amount of travelling and games we have had recently.

How is the game gone at 1 0 ffs.

We had one attacking outlet in Rashford. We had ten men. The players were shattered. Extra time would've be wasted on us.

Like I say, if we'd of been cavalier, we would've taken an absolute pasting. And that would've done us no good.

I don't like getting beaten and I am the first to call out the players for not trying - but I don't think that was the case tonight, because defensively, if they hadn't of tried tonight, we would've conceded far more than just the one.

Chelsea got the rub of the green like pretty much they always do againest us at Stamford Bridge.

The sending off was a farce, being limited on our attacking options didn't help and they are always injury-free which helps them have a constant settled team.

Ah well roll on Europa.

Should just have played a youth team then, if he had no intention to risk and chase the game.

Im more gutted about the red card than the loss, if that makes sense.
It ruined the game and the game plan. It was working well, we were attacking and not just sitting. The red card basically meant we had to make the sub and we lost a silly goal after that.

Whilst it would have been good to go cavalier and go for it last 15 minutes, i can see why Jose didnt especially with a game on thursday that imo, is more important to United.

We are soppy as shit now. Really proud of the team after going down at Chelsea? Come on. We give it we're the biggest club in the world.

- Playing against the best team in the league
- With ten men for the majority of it
- Decimated in strike, with a half-fit Rashford
- Having had at least 3 days less rest after returning from Bumfeck, Idaho

I'd say we have reason to be proud.

Can you honestly not see why Mourinho did what he did tonight? Re not making offensive substitutions and 'going for it'.

I get that you don't like it, but it is clear as day to see why our Jose chose to accept a narrow loss and move on to a more important fixture. That's not to say he didn't intend to try and win tonight, but the red card changed the outlook dramatically.

On the one hand I think Mourinho needs to instill more of a pressing game into our team. The way we defend and can press, if we can turn it on the at the right moments, we would destroy teams (with quick/'easy' chances).

On the other, this is his first season and maybe the lack of it is why we're so deep in the cups (won one, lost today of course).

If we go by Mourinho's career, our 2nd season will see us flying on all fronts.

Fingers cross. Stay optimistic.

Barring good performances from Valencia and Rojo, I can't see why United fans would be pleased with the performance. Personally I thought you were poor after the red card and was surprised how penned back we kept you until the final 5.

Proud is a bit much. We didn't embarrass ourselves after the red but we didn't do anything extraordinary as well. Ref ruined the game and we lost. Move on.

Also Pogba is shit. Sorry.
