Reality-Monopoly Draft

Given that 15 managers already submitted their 4th pick when I decided to publish the list of 15 rolls at the request of prath, I think you make noise for nothing.

I didn't. Was dragged a bit in the discussion.

Don't think any harm is done to be honest either way since the card is used the rolls become void.

PMing the managers that already made the picks and don't hold cards however would be better IMO as it wouldn't create fuss like this time(again it's not all that anyway).

Sure, it won't happen again.

Nothing wrong in publishing the list. Feel free to do it again.

It's just that some managers thought publishing will affect how a card is played...which is incorrect.

Forgot about the none world cup winner and been mad busy. I'll pick Alexis sanchez

I make noise because it keeps happening.

Over eager managers demanding things get rushed shouldn't override the process.

I picked on it yesterday in a situation which was rather harmless and immediately picked it up today. I'm anal like that. We have new drafters all the time (good thing) so lessons on previous meltdown-inducing feckups must get repeated (a negligible downside, but someone has to be the anal prick repeating them).

I don't mean to keep beating you up, it's just making sure there's certain standards in place. EAPs post didn't indicate the problem was acknowledged, else I had moved on ages ago.

Nothing wrong in publishing the list. Feel free to do it again.

It's just that some managers thought publishing will affect how a card is played...which is incorrect.

It could, clearly. Knowing the rolls before the round ends is a useful input to decide whether to use the card or not.

The roll simply shouldn't be known to a cardholder that can override said roll, it's common sense you absolute fruitcake :p

For the easily offended, that was EAPs original username

BTW @Edgar Allan Pillow if a player was in a WC winning squad but hasn't played a single game is he a WC winner or he has to feature?

For example Ronaldo in 94' - does he fall under dropping and picking criteria, assuming he didn't win in 2002?

Same for the losing cup box - if a player was in the team in that year but injured for the latter end and missing out the SF's, F's etc.

That's some pick @harms

Damn, I was thinking about him the other day with the two #10s final. Would love to have him.

It's usually squad with tournos, nothing to do with playing time.

Should blend in nicely with Figo - and is both good and underrated enough to make him the main focus of my research/presentation (now that I said it, I'll probably lose him later in another drop box or something )

We pick József Bozsik replacing Breitner in box 19 (less than three clubs).

Correct, we will just have to wait for @harms to finish watching Gigi Riva clips so we can get the board updated.

I've updated it for this round. It's good we're on the opposite end of the snake so we can have the board ready with the rolls.

It's already updated for this round.

Oh, I had misread the roll and assumed we were on 4. I preferred it when I had avoided that early stretch with Skizzo's card :(

So that actually made bugger all difference for you.

Just realised I'm going to lose another player after this round :( teams getting decimated!

Box 22: National Loser (Box 19)

Well, I lost one formidable defender, so I have no choice but to replace him with another one.

Confirmation that he never won a World Cup: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/José_Santamaría#Honours

He almost got called up for the 1950 World Cup as well, but that was denied because Uruguay were trying to call him up as an inside forward when he was a defender! I'm sure @antohan can shed some more light on that because that just doesn't make sense.

An excellent all-round display from Law against a formidable German side boasting Beckenbauer (who kept tabs on Law), Schulz, Schnellinger, Vogts, Overath, Muller etc.

The match was held in Hampden Park and Scotland dominated for large periods of the match and I really can't stress the importance of Muller here. He was the difference maker, not just with his goal, but with his overall play. When your side is up against the wall and struggling to impose itself upon the match, a centre-forward who is working his socks off from the front, dropping deep and frequently faciliating play, feeding on scraps but somehow fashioning chances for himself and doing his utmost to get others involved is just as priceless as it comes.

Do notice how he frequently makes himself available for the pass (esp when his team-mates suffer from a lack of options), and his willingness to bring others into the play, one-twos etc and how selfless his general approach is. Of course, he was no Bergkamp/Hidegkuti and was fairly unaesthetic tbh, but a player who is a proven match-winner offering that much off and on the ball outside the box is pretty remarkable. He was hardly a 'poacher' playing off the shoulders of the last defender and only being goal-oriented/selfish in his movement.

Germany could leave Muller isolated, safe in the knowledge that there will always be an utterly deadly focal point who basically guaranteed you goals (somehow), and an industrious and a willing, mobile facilitative foil who frequently looked to get things moving along and get others involved. Also, it's incredible how he just switches on and lights up in the penalty box. Outside of it, he wasn't great at beating players and didn't really attempt dribbles but inside it, he somehow morphed into an unholy amalgamation of Cruyff, Laudrup and a circus contortionist  - do watch the goal at 5.20 and his shot at 8.52.

P.S - Just how feckin ridiculous is Beckenbauer, unbelievable really, the sheer consistency and genius of the man, right from 1966 to 1976. When I'm actually watching games of him, I actually go into them hoping for a bad game from him, believe it or not, simply because he's just too consistent and perfect. And I come out at the end of it thinking, feck me sideways . He's got to have had some 'mares in the Bundesliga during the early seventies though, when Bayern weren't performing too well on the domestic front, although there isn't too much footage available of those matches.

An excellent all-round display from Law against a formidable German side boasting Beckenbauer (who kept tabs on Law), Schulz, Schnellinger, Vogts, Overath, Muller etc.

That may as well have been an all-action video on Willi Schulz. That man was a rock!

P.S - Just how feckin ridiculous is Beckenbauer, unbelievable really, the sheer consistency and genius of the man, right from 1966 to 1976. When I'm actually watching games of him, I actually go into hoping for a bad game from him, believe it or not, simply because he's just too consistent and perfect. And I come out at the end of it thinking, feck me sideways . He's got to have had some 'mares in the Bundesliga during the early seventies though, when Bayern weren't performing too well on the domestic front, although there isn't too much footage available of those matches.

Agree, absolutely ridiculous player and underrated as feck IMO
When people speak about the GOAT they only name Diego and Pele(nowadays Messi as well) but nobody will ever convince me that they have the upper hand on Kaiser, like you said - he was fecking perfect.

@Balu

What's the consensus of Beckenbauer's performances in the league during the early seventies, was he held accountable for Bayern's poor performances in the league, being one of their leading players? If I'm not wrong, the players willingly decided to shift their focus and efforts on the European Cup, and it showed with their 3 consecutive European Cup victories and poor performances in the league. Also of course, he was in the midst of delivering the 1972 Euros and the 1974 World Cup, so there's that too.

Knew you've criticised Kicker's ratings before but typically enough he's just rated as World Class during those years

Any other insight on his performance levels during those years, in the Bundesliga, that you might be able to provide? Actually think I might have asked you this before but can't remember.

He almost got called up for the 1950 World Cup as well, but that was denied because Uruguay were trying to call him up as an inside forward when he was a defender! I'm sure @antohan can shed some more light on that because that just doesn't make sense.
He played as a CM, was deployed on a man-marking role on Loustau in a friendly against River and did so well the manager decided to try him in defence.

Uruguay was well stocked in defence and didn't need a 21-year-old warming the bench. Nothing story really.
