RBS 6 Nations

Shane Williams won IRB player of the year, is he one of the best players the even play the game?

Your opinion is your opinion, and that's fine. I love Scott Quinnell. But don't tell me experts and professionals regard Dusautoir as one of the all-time greats, in the top handful of the best players of the professional era. Cause nobody thinks that.

Yes.

60 tries make him one of the best ever only Campese from the test nations is above him.

On another note looks like this could have been Big Pauls last 6 nations game at Lansdowne Road:(.

How could somebody who is arguably the best player to ever play for a rugby nation like Wales not feature in the world's top 50?

Exactly, I would be curious to see the three best XV of some people.

Better team won and comfortably enough in the end.

Wales up next.....

Well he feckin' isn't Irish. Take your beating like a man and less of the excuses. ALRIGHT.
 Enjoy those grapes. Better team won simple as.
You both don't even know what I'm talking about if that's the best you can do!

Look back through the thread … while you were watching Spurs v Chelsea I was watching the rugby and clearly posted that I thought Ireland are the better team because of discipline and pressure.

There were some strange decision towards the end when England pressure started that even the commentator referred to but they would not have swung the game!

 Take a seat and act like a man in defeat. Wouldn't watch football while my country's playing.

Deserved win for Ireland.

Have to say, I'm surprised by England. I kept expecting this onslaught of white shirts in the last few minutes but it never happened. I never really saw anything from England that made me really worry.

I didn't even know they were playing. Football is only a pussies game. I'm a pure GAA & Rugby man, me.

Now if you would excuse me, I have to go up to Linnanes and drink the shit out of it for the evening, celebrate my great country's win over England.

Take her handy, yeah.

a) In no way is Shane Williams the best player to ever play for Wales, nowhere near. Wonderful runner, great try scorer, but not in the same class as the boys from the 70s. Just outside the top, top bracket.

b) We weren't talking about top 50, we were talking about the claim that alongside McCaw, Dusautoir is the best player of the last 20 years.

As a very casual watcher of Rugby, where does Brian O'Driscoll rank in the pantheon of greatest ever players; not quite there, or one of the best?

I remember someone who knows more about rugby than me describing him as sort of the rugby equivalent of someone like Di Stefano.

Not the best ever, that's Gareth Edwards. He's top 10, arguably top 5. Id have Edwards, John, JPR, Jon Davies and Shane as my top 5. He is easily in the top bracket. Wilkinson, BOD and Williams are the cream of the crop of NH backs of the last 15 years in my opinion.

On the second point, I agree, Dusautaoir is quality but definitely not alongside the likes of McCaw for best players of the last 20 years.

In defense, he is in the top 5.

If we are talking last 20 years and restricting it to forwards only, McCaw, Paul O'Connell, Matfield, Parisse and Gethin Jenkins are all better players and there's probably another 5-10 I'd take ahead of him and that's only players from the last 20 years. He's still a fantastic player.

Parisse ? Come on ! :D

To be honest I would put Matfield, O'connell, Jenkins, Botha, Mealamu, Burger, Bru, Whitelock and a some more over him.

Parisse is such a clever player, Rolls Royce of an 8 I reckon. Comparing players in rugby is a bit unfair anyway in my opinion, McCaw is probably the best ever but he can't do what Dan Carter does and vice versa. We can both agree that Dusautoir is an exceptional flanker though.

I tell you this ref is IRISH!

Thought the ref made questionable calls both ways to be honest. Some very short advantages for both sides, took a while to penalise England for being offside in defense and I though two of the three penalties England scored from could have been turnover ball for Ireland.

Had one of those games where the loser was always going to be annoyed with his performance. On balance I don't think he gave either team any real advantage though.

Really good game from Ireland, impressive to win by 10 with O'Brien going off so early and Sexton missing the last 25 or so mins. O'Donnell and Murphy stepped up big time. Best was all over the field, Sexton, Murray, Zebo and Henshaw all exceptional as well.

Wales vs Ireland....here we go.

Barnes better sanction the irish next time.

Feck's sake. Ireland taking advantage of Warburton being in the bin.

About time this ref gave something our way.

That's a good game, with great intensity.

O'Connell just had Wales there
