RBS 6 Nations

Not if you're a member of or have got a connection to a rugby club. However this time I'm taking a Kiwi mate who has wheelchair tickets to most games.
It's so hard to get tickets to any big sporting event these days. I remember when you could just turn up at the gate on the day, it wasn't that long ago either.

It was a good game, really enjoyed it.

Seems you were right all along :nervous:

Scrappy game, happy with the result though.

It was the rucks, no one will beat Ireland, if they consume too much players in the rucks, and when you attack the line, you need to be close from your teammates otherwise the Irish will keep you on your feet, and produce turnovers and penalties.

Gotta post this from the Lads Bible:

What's that pal? You want me to draw an England flag on your face? No problem! :D

Timekeeping in rugby is bizarre at times.

Granted I've not seen the game, but what is the problem here? That the game was stopped after the conversion went over at 79:56?

Wales could have just kicked it out on the full from the restart, and time would have been up. France did this to Wales in 2010.

Granted, they might not have known the rules, as Scotland themselves failed to do so in the same tournament, resulting in them losing the game.

There was also a bit of a scrap before the conversion and clock wasn't stopped. Should have been another 15 or so seconds at least to play ball. Enough for the restart anyway.

The time is never stopped between a try and a conversion, normally the kicker should be sanctioned, if he takes to much time. The scrap was eating this time.

Its an iffy moment in that there was a fight, rather than the kicker delaying and the clock actually was stopped eventually.

I've just watched the relevant bits now.

Wales-v-Scotland 2010 (what a game that was!): Conversion goes over at 79:46. Scotland, though they denied it, clearly didn't know the rules and restarted infield at 80:16, and ended up losing.
Wales-v-France 2010: Conversion goes over at 79:38. France restart at 80:03 straight into touch, and win the game.

Even if the clock was stopped for 20 seconds of fighting, I think Wales would have been perfectly entitled to eat up time until 80:00 and then kick it straight into touch.

Whats the diff between RBS 6 and what Im watching on TV now, the USA Sevens Rugby which includes, SA, Fiji, NZ, England, Australia etc?

6 Nations is Rugby Union. Mini league with England, Ireland, Wales, Scotland, Italy, France. 15 players on a team.

Just a different discipline basically.

So the same England squad that competes in RBS 6 also participates in Sevens? Graphic on the screen says they will play Australia for the "plate?"...the n winner plays the winner in the cup bracket....btw Fiji is killing SA right now.

Different players completely.

I think I prefer the Union form or ruby with the 15 players per side....this Sevens seems a bit dull or the two teams Im watching are just shit.

Sevens tournaments are weird. They all play in pools like the CL and where they finish in the pools decide who they're playing in the knockouts and which trophy they'll play for (like the Bowl, Shield and Plate) with different trophies being worth more (like the CL vs. the Europa League). How they do in them decide how much points for the season table they'll get which decides who wins the whole series that season. South Africa are winning this year's Series currently with Fiji 3rd.

It's actually great fun to watch. It's basically Rugby with the 'boring' bits taken out. It started out small but now it's really grown and some of the players on the 7s circuit are specialists and only play 7s. Sometimes 7s players go onto to the 15 man game but as the sport grows, has more money and has more specialised players it's starting to have some players keep at it.

EDIT: Btw, Fiji are brilliant to watch. They're like a bunch of crazy talented, super athletes with the skills of professionals and the attacking instincts of 11 year olds on FIFA.

Sevens to me looks like the rugby union version of 5 a side but this is at a professional level, some of the players who play 7s use it as a way to improve their passing and running for their eventual progression to full on rugby and we could possibly see 15 man regulars participate in 7s in the future as its going to be in the Olympics.

If this has been posted somewhere here, apologies but this had to be in this thread.

EDIT: It's an Irish impressionist taking the psis basically.

As a very casual watcher of Rugby, where does Brian O'Driscoll rank in the pantheon of greatest ever players; not quite there, or one of the best? Who's considered the best ever? Jonah Lomu?

Really bad audio during the Welsh/France anthems.

From the Pro era he would be up there with McCaw and Carter, his influence on his teams, his quickness of taught and the length of his career make him one of the best.

Probably one of the best, in the pro era the best are one of McCaw or Dusautoir.

Dusautoir?! According to who?

Lomu was revelation for about 4 years but couldn't stay anywhere near that level due to health problems. But his impact in that period was so huge, he's still considered one of the greats of the modern era. I'd say on merit, BOD is considered more of a great, just about.
