Rayan Cherki

It may be worth buying him and flipping him if it didnt work. Sounds like a player who would probably move on for >22m for whoever bought him.
This is my point. We spent 80 mil on bloody Sancho and Antony. A player comes along who is much more talented but unproven available for 20 mill euros and decent wages and people are turning their noses up.

For the price in todays market it would be a win win signing. Amorim doesn't manage to get a tune out of him we sell him for at minimun the same price. Amorim does manage to get him to his full potential we have a balon dor level player.

Just watched a highlights compilation on him. Must be said he looks technically ridiculous. I can imagine him being a hot and cold player though.

Can understand Liverpool being interested as from a data output perspective he is very intriguing.

At 20m he might be worth the gamble as the upside would be huge if he worked out / reported attitude problems went away, if not you wouldn’t be making huge losses either.

If he came on a lowish salary (say 80k) and with some nice performance incentives, I wouldn’t be totally against.

I used to have him in mind to become one of the best players in the world, but he’s gone off the rails since then and now I don’t think his career path can be certain anymore. Has the talent to be a superstar, whether he’ll ever apply himself like one is anyone’s guess.
Sometimes young players need a change of scenery and to get away from their hometown friends and such to realise their potential

He’ll either be our Hazard our Taarabt. Outrageous talent, and it’s with great sadness and a testimony to the joke that this game has become to see the first thing some people question about him is his ability to defend and chase people. He has the talent that make people pay to watch football matches. He’s also only 21 and his productivity is increasing all the time. Amd lastly, it’s not like we cam go and get Musiala or Leao anyway, so as far as cheap options go, which it seems is all we’re supposed to be pursuing these days - 20m for Cherki is a great deal when he has genuine 100m potential.

Taarabt!

That's who he reminds me of. Kept trying to recall the name of French player who played for QPR...the Caf always has the answers.

For the right price and wages these deals make sense as a means to speculate on the market.

Look at Lloyd Kelly, Adarabioyo and Veiga. They are already being touted for moves that will generate atleast 10m profit.

The mistake United have made over the last 10yrs is conservativism in the market.

Why don't we Trayan a Cherki bid and see what happens, ugly mug or not!

At any other club I'd say "a talented young attacker for cheap? let's get him". But in our current circumstances we really can't afford another player with toxic character and lack of running on the pitch. kinda reminds me of Sancho. We need fighters who runs their arses off.

True, but also also he's so incredibly talented it's maddening. I'd almost say feck it, sign him and let the chips falls where they may.

But you're right, probably just end up exploding in our faces.

I know literally nothing about this guy, £20m seems like it might be a steal, have watched the YT vids, he looks to have mad ball control and tricks, but didn't see much indication of hard work or effort, where would he play for us? 10? Amad back to RWB? doesn't seem to have the work rate we require

I don't see this happening think the story is from his agents, if it did happen at £20m seems a risk worth taking but I could easily see it turning into a disaster

See also the quotes about him being an arsehole, but without the specifics and context hard to judge him on that

Why is Leao even in the discussion ? He’s a 25yo winger with very average output and close to no defensive work

What’s bonkers about Cherki is he has the ability and potential to become a legit talisman; the kind of player that can bend games to his will. If you could put the singular drive of any of our legends in him, you’d have one of the best players in the league to hand for a pittance.

By all accounts, he turned his attitude around this summer. The end of last season with Pierre Sage at Lyon and then the Olympics benefitted him greatly.
His play is really not Taarabt. He’s basically a Fekir regen with Ben Arfa skillset.

Cherki himself is not that much of an asshole, but I’ve had had many echoes from people « itk » that his entourage are insufferable

However for £20m we should get him.

Imagine this forum in 1992.

Cantona?? No thanks. Awful attitude, loads of red cards, he was booted out of France.

We need a ready made quality striker. Like David Hirst.

Difference is that Cantona was driven by his winning mentality. Cherki just seems like Sancho 2.0

Very true!

In fairness Sir Alex thought the same thing. It was only because Sheffield Wednesday refused to sell Hirst that we moved on to Cantona!

Ronaldo? No thanks. Doesnt defend and is just a step over merchant.

We need a Premier League proven player, lets try to buy Bowen for 100m.

Yeah this is why I think we should go and get Angel Gomes this summer regardless. At a minimum gives us a straight Eriksen replacement in the squad and a homegrown player, and if he doesn't quite work out or can't get the game time he wants we should easily be able to get £20-30m from another Prem team the following summer. And we need all the help with can get with this PSR nonsense.

I would also add Tariq Lamptey to this too, he would be a nice option as a WB for us.

If you go back a few years, I was really high on Cherki because with his talent, the sky looked like it was there to reach, and then all the reports started coming in, which has led us to 2025 and him being a player you cannot bet the house on.

I have heard about his turnaround, but the challenge here is that he would have to go over and above anything to date just to not get dragged into our quagmire. He leads a simple life where he is relative to being thrust centre stage at the biggest club in England and one where he would instantaneously have a global spotlight, all the trappings that come with that… we’re seeing the affect of on one who would be out the door if anyone would pick up his wages.

Him and his entourage in Manchester and all the other party spots… well, if a fall came, you would be a fool to be surprised by it.

I guess the important thing would be that the coach can tap into the player’s psyche and figure out what makes him tick and feeds into making him want to be the best version of himself. Sometimes it’s ego, sometimes it’s proving doubters wrong, sometimes it’s fear of being a failure etc., etc.

I’m not necessarily torn - at the price you take the gamble - but am under no illusions whatsoever that it could go catastrophically wrong. This is the kind of kid Fergie would turn into an absolute menace; whether we have that capability now, I’m not at all sure about.
