RAWK Goes Into Meltdown (2012/2013)

They don't have the financial resources or infastructure to compete. Their best hope will be if a rich Arab or an oligarch comes in, which could plausibly happen given their 'istree, although Moores was trying to hawk them round the Middle East when he sold them to Hicks and Gillette () to no avail.

I don't think they're a well enough run club to "do a Tottenham". Their scouting network seems pretty awful - although I fear Sturridge will come good for them, most of their signings seems to be overrated and overpriced British players.

And if that happens, they won't be plastic because they have "history". It would be described as a helping hand....speeding up a process that was already underway.

I get the sense that would be the case if any of the "big" clubs attracted an oligarch - just seen by the fans as a continuation of the natural order of things.

For all United moan about financial doping, I bet most would prefer a (non-meddling) Abramovich type who invests in the club, goes to matches and shows passion for the team, writes off debt instead of leveraging the club with it etc than what they have now.

Same for Liverpool. They too bang on about "financial doping" (difference being that an owner pumping money into a club isn't illegal - doping is) but they would have absolutely loved an Arab oil baron over the likes of Hicks and Gillette. Still see posts on RAWK now dreaming of oil money

If you take out the two sugar daddy clubs Liverpool have spent as much as anybody. They have hugely unachieved. They should be doing much better for the money spent. They should be well able to compete for a top four finish and not be out of it by March like last season. Looks like it could be the same this year.

But they've over-spent in recent years and it's a case of "once bitten, twice shy" for the owners.

That's King Kenny's legacy at the club that we should all be grateful for, something the RAWKites are completely oblivious to. Anyone that mentions this fact on there gets a "slamming with the banhammer"

I was very outspoken about the sale of Sturridge to Liverpool and if they bag Coutinho, they will have picked up a couple of bargains imo.

Shame, I prefered it when they were lashing out 15-20 mill for the likes of "Hendo" and Downing.

Allen and Enrique had honeymoon periods when they first signed but it wasn't long before they realised how average they actually were. I severely doubt Sturridge would have been allowed to leave Chelsea had he been a serious prospect destined for the very top, or that Liverpool would have been his only potential suitors.

The same goes for Countinho; he was touted as a superstar two years ago but apparently has regressed a lot since. Liverpool are a step down from Inter on current standings, and if Coutinho was the bargain he's said to be, surely other, more prospective buyers would be in for him.

They have spent over 20mil this window. Rodgers has spent nearly 50million so far.

Fabio Borini £10,000,000
Joe Allen £15,000,000
Oussama Assaidi £2,300,000
Samed Yesil £1,000,000
Daniel Sturridge £12,000,000
Coutinho-£8,500,000

Thats £48.8mil so far.

He never got a proper chance at Chelsea. He scored 8 goals in 11 games at an average Bolton side and outscored Torres last season whilst being played out of position in his first proper season.

He is selfish but that's not necessarily the worst attribute in an out and out striker, ask Jimmy Floyd Hasselbaink. On the occasional run-out he was always trying to hard to score and make an impression that he'd shoot from anywhere.

Better than Torres 2013 in every way and with a regular run will score goals wherever he is. Terrible decision to sell a young England international for that price and persist with the awful Torres in spite of his form.

Thing is three Chelsea managers now have more or less ignored him. That makes me wonder.

Granted he was impressive at Bolton.

The fee for the immensely successful Sahin loan would push that over £50m.

Maybe they were all scared of dropping Roman's new toy?

Correct. The levels of favouritism shown to Torres are staggering. If Sturridge had the audacity to put in just one of the kind of 10 matches in a row goalless runs that Torres goes on, he'd have been training with the juniors for the next year.

No matter how terrible Torres was, Sturridge never got given the nod. Torres has now done for 3 managers and one promising young England international. The worst signing in the history of football.

Sturridge should be fine for them, at £12m he might be a decent buy. He won't tear defences apart but that's about as good as they can get right now given their position and consistent lack of CL football.

Allen was a pretty terrible buy for £15m, you don't pay that kind of money for players of this calibre. Borini has barely played so I can't comment, people have been excited about him in the Summer so he might turn all right.

Coutinho should be good.

fair dues to the owners, they give the manager plenty for players. They just squander it on average though.

He's right though, Liverpool players like Allen and Enrique have had honeymoon periods which quickly faded, and Sturridge is actually something of a 'honeymoon period' specialist. Remember his loan spell with Bolton? For a couple of weeks, he was the best thing since sliced bread, banging in a couple of great goals every week. But he quickly faded when defences remembered that he can't do anything that requires the involvement of other players.

The effect might be more extreme at 'pool, because just by virtue of being an actual striker able to capitalise on Suarez' playmaking, he'll start strongly. But it'll fade just the same. He's too one-dimensional to ever be anything special.

Not sure about him, saw a lot of him at Chelsea when he was coming through - not big or quick enough to make it in the Premiership imho. Quite clever with his movement and he can finish but I would be surprised if he cuts it.

The Italians do not let go of young, Italian international strikers for that kind of price unless there are question marks over their head.

He's 6ft+ and probably the quickest player we currently have.

He's not 6ft+ and there is no way he is faster than Sterling.

That being said, I do rate him and think (if he gets a decent run in the team) he'll be a hit. Great finisher.

LFC website lists him as 1.83m which is more or less 6'1 (I'm wrong, it's just over 6ft actually).

I'd say he is faster than Sterling over a longer distance.

Some of these guys say stuff that I wouldn't even say on WUM because it would be too obvious, and yet they're frequently guys with thousands of posts.

How does this guy figure that Brendan Rodgers knows more about Spanish football that the best foreign player in La Liga history (ahead of Di Stefano, Ronaldo, Romario, Rivaldo, Ronaldinho and Cruyff), a guy who's playstyle is basically the main inspiration behind Iniesta, Xavi, Cazorla, Mata, Silva, Isco, Fabregas and the entire playstyle Spain and Spanish players are currently dominating world football with?

My thoughts exactly. Not to mention his recent management stints there on top of all that experience as a player.

Incredible delusion - gonna tweet that one to RAWK Meltdown on Twitter.

There is NO EXCUSE for their constant fouling! They should be passing it around and playing football! fecking inbred retards in a no mark northern town masquerading as football player!! This is what is shit about the FA cup, no protection for better more skilful players! Ref is an arsewipe!!

:wenger:

So the CL misses Liverpool, it's probably deemed as shit and they don't want to be in it anyway

Europa League misses Liverpool as well, the cold away nights in Eastern Europe are probably not something they crave

The FA cup misses Liverpool, no way the mighty reds would relish playing in Oldham's crappy stadium in the cold winter night, they'll gonna pass, it's shit anyway.

The League is where it is.... oh... wait...
