RAWK Goes Into Meltdown (2011/2012)

What gets me when talking to dippers and you mention the Carroll fee, the pre-programmed reaction is to mention Suarez's fee as defence.

So, bizarrely, if you mix both fees it's somehow ok.

Dippernomics.

I'm gonna have to start doing that with Sturridge whenever I get shit about Torres' transfer fee.

Anyone who thinks his finishing is shit, look at his two volleys today. Incredible technique, both shots going top corner. Unfortunately met with some outstanding goalkeeping.
Met with some outstanding goalkeeping, so it's not a good finishing at all, is it?

Just like 2008/09 and "we were the best team in the league, but Manchester United were better".

Hodgson
Played 31 Won 13 Drawn 9 Lost 9 Win% 41.94

Dalglish
Played 34 Won 17 Drawn 8 Lost 9 Win% 50.00

This doesn't differentiate between League and Cup games, which might skew it a bit, but they're fairly similar. I'd expect Dalglish to be doing better considering he's had massive backing from the fans, the board, the players, whereas Hodgson had none of those.

Two bang average managers.

One with huge financial, board and fan backing, one with the opposite.

Kenny's effectively had the stabilisers put on but is still struggling to look like he can ride the bike.

Dalglish has managed 27 league games since his return, winning 14 of them, drawing 6 and losing 7 which adequates to around 67 points for a full season. Most of the wins were at the end of last season though when they had neither European football nor any pressure to worry about. Their current league form points to 60-63 points in the end which won't be enough to secure fourth place IMHO, despite them spending millions on shit players.

They signed a bunch of good but not great players and are a good but not a great team. Sometimes it's as simple as that. Fourth place depends on what others do. Normally you'd back Arsenal to finish ahead of Liverpool but we know what has happened to them. Spurs have a better team than Liverpool. If they do things right they'll finish ahead of them.

I said it before, but I really think Henry and co got it horribly wrong when they appointed Dalglish post Hodgson. Whether they thought he was the right man long term or not, once he got the job it was clear they won't be able to get rid as long as he does OK in the last four months of last season. Well, he's done better than OK which meant the owners had no choice, being new and all. They couldn't make a different decision.

Phil Thompson at the Noggy football coverage for today... Gave his opinions and whatnot, fine... switch to commentator and the stadium, and there seems to be a bit of a cock-up as we can hear "COME ON CIT-", before it cuts off

Hoping there's no joy for him in the post-match analysis.

In the interests of fairness, Rawk should start a Red Cafe goes into meltdown thread. They'd have some cracking quotes from us today

Got a funny feeling BlueMoon and RAWK are looking like the same forum at the moment.

The few decent Liverpool fans out there will probably be just grateful that the Arabs didn't buy Everton and pump 650 million into them.

They'll enjoy our defeat today no doubt and nobody can blame them for that, but the rise of City will also likely mean that Liverpool's title drought will exceed our own 26 year wait.

City's owners are sadly going nowhere and will likely start to threaten Barca and Real for their players within the next few seasons.

For United fans it could only be worse if i had been Liverpool who had been bought out by the Arabs.

There's some more shit sandwiches we'll have to eat at their hands over the next few years for sure, but hopefully we'll remain at least competitive

This.

City's rise will only mean Liverpool are in a yearly dogfight for 4th from here on.

There are only four Champions League spots.

The rise of City means that Liverpool are effectively competing for fourth place with Tottenham and Arsenal.

After the schadenfreude has worn off the hangover is going to be a bitch for Liverpool.

they can mock at us today all they like, but it will only mean they have no chance of winning the league anytime soon.

It's a matter of time before the next cash rich consortium/owner gobble up an English club and pump hundreds of millions into it.

Might be the likes of Chelsea, City and insert new lottery winning club battling it out while the likes of United, Arsenal, Spurs, Liverpool compete for fourth annually.

That's what I've said as well - after the euphoria of seeing us get whalloped today dies down, Liverpool fans will realise their 21 year wait for the title will only get longer due to City's spending and rising. Arsenal fans will realise this too, they'll not be winning the league anytime soon either.

Realistically, the only teams that can compete with City are ourselves and Chelsea.

You seem sure that the top 3 places are all nailed on between City, United and Chelsea. However ...

Spurs are just 3 points behind 3rd placed Chelsea, with a game in hand. And we're just 4 points behind 2nd placed Man. Utd, with a game in hand.

And this is despite having played 5 away games and only 3 at home so far, plus we've had a reasonably difficult fixture list to date.

Things may end up being less cosy than you imagine.

You made a good point Glaston. I love to see Spurs do well having grown up watching Hoddle.

However, you lot almost always manage to feck it up somehow.

You are all over it again. There is absolutely no way in hell that you are going to finish above or even close to United and Chelsea.

And yes, I still maintain that your chances of a top 4 finish are slim.

I'm fond of Spurs and would love them to grab the 4th spot, but there's no way they'll be in the top 3. That will definitely be between United/City/Chelsea with Arsenal/Liverpool/Spurs battling for 4th.

The only other clubs in the league I like are Fulham and Spurs.

Fulham are for family reasons.

When I'm in London Fulham are my local club (since Wimbledon disbanded) so I'm fond of them for that reason, plus they're a likable club in terms of quite nice players and fans (especially compared to Chelsea).

Can't remember why I like Spurs but I always have. Helps that we almost always beat them as well I think.

Yeah, no doubt that helps.

If I was working in London I'd probably get a Fulham season ticket. Nice walk to the game, a few pints in the Boathouse then dinner in Covent Garden after.

I think I could do the whole burgeoning middle class thing.

Yeah, I actually know quite a few non-Fulham fans who have season tickets there. Like you say, it's a nice place to spend your Saturday afternoon, having a few drinks, or a walk and a burger in Bishop's Park beforehand.

It's not great if you want to sing your heart out for 90 minutes like you would at some of the more lairy grounds, but it's a great place to take kids if you're introducing them to the game.

then using your logic, you shouldn't feel so smug about 4th on account of Newcastle being there with the points in the bag - not a game in hand.

Would be happy to see Spurs finish 4th though = or even 2nd as long as we win the title.

True, Newcastle are also in the mix currently ... and they have points on the board as you say.

But then again they've played 5 games at home compared to just 3 for Spurs, and their fixture list has been much easier. I think they'll start to fall away a bit fairly soon.

So are Liverpool "the best team in the world" again after beating the mighty West Brom yesterday?

Or has RAWK realised yet that Liverpool's football is far too slow and predictable to win anything this season?
