RAWK Goes Into Meltdown (2011/2012)

it was more a case of Sunderland being horrible in the first half, when they started playing better, Liverpool got dominated at times.

Sunderland gave them space in the 1st half but began closing them down in the 2nd. Liverpool had no answer.

Saturdays are back to normal

Bitter Liverpool fans crying all over the place

Just walked past three on their way home from the pub looking dejected. Wondered why they were staring then realised I had my United shirt on under my coat, which was half zipped up

doesn't really look like a meltdown, they've just said they should have finished chances in first half and they were poor in the second, you can pick a handful of quotes and post them here but you get similar dickhead posts in this forum after a loss, just beggin a meltdown these days, its getting quite sad and pathetic

Wrong thread...

I thought Liverpool looked quite impressive in the first half but that second half was shocking.

And I'm so so so happy we didn't get bloody Henderson.

I wonder if King Kenny will destroy them more than Rafa did.

And I also wonder if the fans will be as in denial as they were with Rafa - which would really be something

Appointing Dalglish as permanent manager demonstrated a serious lack of ambition. It would be like us appointing Bryan Robson or Arsenal hiring Tony Adams. The bloke is about 20 years past his sell-by-date.

Liverpool fans have taken the messiah complex from Newcastle.

I do think his tactical decisions and transfer dealings are questionable.

The latter have been unprecedented in English football in a 6 month period - 20 mil for Henderson and 35 million for Carroll  Even Rafa wouldn't have got away with that....but the Board seem to have let it go because it's King Kenny

I was quite pleased they signed Dalglish. I don't think he'll win them the title nor will he be a complete disaster.

The fans however will never ever turn on him meaning he'll be there for a while. If he gets sacked the owners will suffer a huge backlash. They'll just lurk around the top 6 year in year out occasionally getting a UCL spot.

Its back to the early 00's as far as Liverpool are concerned.

Adam, Henderson and Carroll clearly should never have been signed. I think Liverpool fans probably already know that deep down. Downing and Enrique are decent enough players, but they're not going to get you in the top 4, and they're certainly not going to be in a title winning team.

They're basically a Newcastle or Villa standard, with more deluded fans nowadays

It was a sensible move to get Ken Knee in as a have-a-go hero but not to give him the job long-term.

Even though he is well out of date. He has achieved far more has a manager than Robson. As for Tony Adams? Come on its nothing like that at all. He manages a team from Ajerbajan

He hasn't managed in donkey's years. And it shows.

I don't know what they were thinking. Crazy decision. They should have got an emerging modern manager to revitalise the club, not drag it back into the past. I guess that's what they're hoping Comolli will do, but I am far from convinced he adds much value.

I think that's overstating it. Dalglish was a highly successful manager who won league championships. Robbo as a manager peaked at mediocre and has since then been very bad; Adams was a disaster. Dalglish may turn out not to have it anymore but either way he's steadied the ship.

They're much better than both of those, as the table will show next May.

They needed a manager to stabilise the fans more than anything else

I don't think they wanted to but eventually fan pressure forced their hand. Imagine the shitstorm if they sacked King Kenny at the end of last season.

Difference being Dalglish was once a top manager, Robbo's never really done much as a manager and Adams has an awful track record. As much as I can't stand him, he's in a different league to them as a manger.

I don't think he will ever make them title challengers but he could get them back into the CL and set up someone else to have a serious going at a revival.

Remember they had sunk pretty low under Rafa and in Hodgson's half a season in charge.

He's steadied the ship and set it sailing in the wrong direction.

Yeah, fair enough it would have been hard to sack him, but why let him waste £100m on shite? Let him expose his flaws and then dump him, with the fans on side, and without wasting your transfer budget.

Perhaps this season, but like both of those clubs in the 00s, with Kenny at the helm, they will bounce around the lower top half of the table, occasionally finishing in the European places. The players are expensive, but ultimately not title winning or CL material.

They have got a good enough squad to make the Champions League or at least have a crack at it. Anywhere between 4-6 is a possibility for them.

Can't see them challenging for the league or the CL anytime soon.

I could see Dalglish leading a Houllier type revival mind you and he will continue to spend big.

Better to be sailing in the wrong direction than drowning. Well, unless the wrong direction is towards Doncaster.

It's too early to judge Carroll. I think he'll be too immobile and 1-D for the CL if they get back into it, but will score his fair share in the PL.

Suarez, sadly, looks a fecking great signing.

Suarez looks good. Enrique and Downing are decent enough players for a top 6 side. Adams, Henderson and Carroll are shite.

Carroll is a limited footballer who necessitates the team play in a certain style, one that won't win you anything. He's just a £35m Duncan Ferguson.

Signing Carroll is exactly what I mean by Dalglish being way out-of-date. He clearly thought 'big man, little man, that's what we need...'

Writing off a young player like Henderson is a bit silly and you would give him ample time if we had signed him.

Carroll if they had only paid £10-£15m you would not single out. In fact you would most likely consider him a good signing. Its his ridiculous tranfer fee that is against him. I will be very surprised is he doesnt score 15 PL goals this season and in general be a real threat.

Adam is going to be a really good player for them. He will finish in the top 5 assists at the end of this season. But he wont be any good when they are chasing games, only at home when they have plenty of the ball.

If this side clicks I think they will finish above Arsenal in 4th place

I don't know, that combination of Downing/Henderson and Carroll just screams goals to me this season.

Well the dilemma is back him or sack him. Next season they'll get a young Eurocoach and start all over again.

 You didn't watch their game this afternoon. The only thing it was screaming was 'waste of fecking money'.

Does the combination of Pennant/Etherington and Kenwyne Jones also scream goals to you?

Christ Pete, it's their first game together & you're already drawing the end opinion on the matter. Both of the wingers are known for the good balls into the box from their previous clubs, it's only a matter of time before Carroll picks it up & starts heading them in.

I hate all this sitting on the fence nonsense under the guise of patience. Have an opinion. He looks shite so say so.

He did cost £35m though. And those 15 goals will be to the detriment of the team and the style of play.

Adam is going to be a really good player for them. He will finish in the top 5 assists at the end of this season. But he wont be any good when they are chasing games, only at home when they have plenty of the ball.

Adams is the worst of the lot of them. Bottom half of the table player.

I don't see it. You never know, but I'll peg them for 6th.

The only thing about Henderson that I will say is that I so glad we didn't sign him. Would be a struggle to try and see what he would bring to us and likewise to Liverpool's aspirations as a top 4 club.

He'll still bring more to them than Joe Cole or Aquilani though.

Going back to the original point though, King Kenny has it made - he can pretty much spend what he wants on who he wants, draw with the likes of Sunderland at home on a perennial basis for the next few years, and the fans will still hero-worship him. We should offer him Gibson for 30 mil

Well you have to look at the owners pov, they needed a short term solution to ensure the fans were on board with their plans. Easiest way was to hire an old manager that the fans adored.

Back to your point, yes he's got it made. Similar situation to Shearer when he was Newcastle manager at the end of the season they got relegated. Either way he'd still leave a legend.

Its good to laugh at Liverpool spending silly money and failing but lets not forget its just one game of the season with 37 to go. Some of you seem to be 100% writing off all their signings just after todays game or pre season. With Carrol and Suarez not been there too long either.

Doubt we'll be writing our players off so soon if they have a bad game so lets see how it pans out. So far they'll be happy they're spending some money again after the drama with the last yank owners towards the end. They're not our level, they have to look to get into the top 4 and being talked about again before being talked about for the title but its better than nothing, like Poulsens and Koncheskys and how they were under Hodgson. The size of club and history they have will always mean some pundit or journalist tipping them to challenge but reality is they aren't at that stage but as I say, its better than before.

Should be a good season. Won't complain if they do finish 6th - 7th again though, gives us something to laugh at, even if it does dilute the rivalry a bit.
