We're certainly allowed to though, it's just an ethical choice the club is making.
Hmm. Not sure. There was a huge amount of tabloid and social media outrage that led to calls for him to be suspended, reports of sponsors pulling out, etc. That didn't happen with situations involving other PL clubs, so they were able to carry on selecting them without fear of reprisals. Our hand was forced. Which is why, though the club are clearly thinking of bringing him back, it's going to be the same fear of PR and financial reprisals that decide whether it happens - and why I very much doubt it will.

Greenwood on loan for a year and us getting hojlund in, is a good move.

Dont think we can give up on greenwood. I think he will score 15 goals in serie A no problem.

Even if utd decide hes too toxic to bring back then his price will go up alot if hes successful at atlanta.

Why not Arsenal managed it after finishing 5th season before last and everyone had written them off. There’s every chance we can challenge.
Obviously it's possible but the league in particular is highly unlikely. We don't have the strength in depth and EtH just doesn't rotate enough so we'll likely hit another bad injury streak during the season or a period where Casemiro is out and the replacement quality is just not there yet. Also, all our rivals have brought in top players to strengthen their weaknesses so wouldn't even surprised me if we didn't make top four. We were lucky the season ended when it did because we were under serious pressure from Liverpool and badly struggling towards the end. Liverpool have fixed their midfield, Chelsea have made sales and brought a proper manager in and even Spurs are an unknown quantity next season.

If true, It’ll be a season long loan to sweeten the Hojlund deal, everyone wins really.. they’ve already briefed the possibility of a loan deal to see how the media would view it and it all seemed rather muted and sensible

UnitedReport is a troll account and the Atalanta account has 1k followers so both probably run by same troll
I thought it was an aggregator account?

Don't think ETH will make the same mistake on squad rotation. Most fans could see the issue coming and I expect he'll adjust

Toney is brilliant, scoring goals at Brentford isn't easy and his all around game is an excellent fit for Ten Hag.
He's good, he's not elite. We are hoping to compete for the PL and CL titles. We need elite, not good. Look at any of our previous successful teams over the years. You quite simply need an elite striker. Not good, elite. So if there isn't one available, you get a potential one and cover however you can in the meantime while you develop them, and you keep trying til you get them.

Toney would improve us of course, but wouldn't do much for getting us past the 3rd place level now or within the next 5 years. Hojlund might, based on *potential* that the club thinks he has.

Depends what you mean by "Elite". If you are talking about Kane, Haaland and Mbappe then no but we aren't getting any of those.

I think he's the third best striker all round in the league after Kane and Haaland. If he was at a top 4 team I think he'd get 25 goals easy whilst contributing massively to their overall attacking play.

Hoijlund is a huge risk. Either way we aren't signing Toney and the Hoijlund links feel extremely strong so I hope he turns out to be excellent.

Fan account or not.. they might have some connections you know

Would absolutely love a swap deal for Greenwood, get an interesting prospect and dump our trash at the same time.

We won't sale greenwood, not this summer at least. We'll loan him and depending on how he performs next season we'll decide whether is worth the drama or not.

Greenwood will look absolutely world class in Italy if he’s anywhere near 100%

Unfortunately makes too much sense, therefore it won't happen.

Imagine if he outscores Hoj though

Reports for the past couple of weeks have said we're currently only interested in loaning Greenwood to "assess" his form/fitness and also the public reaction. So this is most likely buying Holjund and loaning them Greenwood for a season.

Mason greenwood to Atalanta on loan... sweetener for hojburg.
Greenwood spends a year out of the public eye and getting himself scoring goals and fully fit, back to Man Utd next year or sold for £50-100m if he does well enough.

it makes sense

He could score 100 more goals than Hojlund next season I genuinely would not care, it's just football.

Aye, there are a lot of other players like Scammacca who aren't appearing on that list specifically because they didn't transfer across well and aren't scoring goals currently. So it's not that a lot of players don't fail to translate to the PL, many players don't and for all we know Hojlund could be one.

But if a goalscorer is ultimately going to thrive in the PL, it seems quite likely that they'll hit the ground running. Which makes sense really, as so many signings who don't end up getting discarded quite quickly.

Another example from our own team is someone like Martial. Even without ultimately being a massive success in the PL, his returns in his last season at Monaco were pretty much exactly the same as those in his first season here (0.40 vs 0.38). If Martial can do it, I don't think it's unreasonable to hope a Hojlund-profile signing could too.

you could also argue that the ones who dont hit the ground running and are in and out the squad dont develop, but thats a chicken and egg discussion. Stating this because that could be Højlund’s situation in case he doesnt fire. We’re too big a club to pause every pursuit of medals to develop one player who doesnt deliver.

I think he’ll have a hard time here too if he doesnt score straight away and he’s really not a Chicharito type. At least he works really hard, so I think he’ll develop eventually. But not without regular gametime. He’ll have a hard time because the ones we compare him with currently are more clinical (Toney, Watkins, Gakpo, Mitrovic). I gotta say I somehow doubt he has the tempo of premier league yet.

Højlund looks great with his overall vision (a thing you cant develop), but also seems a bit slow to pass it quick which will be needed in the premier league when pressed constantly. I do think he’s aware of it all though. He’s clever and hard working, two good traits.

Too much sense. Hope it happens.

Almost makes too much sense, doesn’t it?

Whatever you think of Greenwood, we’re sitting on a commodity who is worth a ridiculous amount of money. We aren’t terminating his contract. He gets a good loan. We can still sell him further down the line. We get a replacement who appears to be a genuine target.

Maybe, he's not played in a very long time. it's hard to predict what level he'll return at.
If he plays well that is one avenue back, whethere it's enough who knows. It's a smart move to try and greese the Atlanta wheels for Hojlund.

I mean, if he's worth 50-100m by the end of the loan, let's be honest. We're not selling him, he'll be coming back.

Smart if true. I know sacking him would be popular, but using him to get another player and then possibly a big sum in 12 months is better

Greenwood will light up Serie A. 20 goal season coming up. Great move for all parties if true. He needs to be playing somewhere next season thats for certain.

If Hojlund scores 20 goals (in all comps), and Greenwood scores 47 - how is it bad for us? We would be able to then reintegrate him in a team next year or sell for 150m - and ETH will find good use for these monies

Hojlund for Greenwood sounds like a very plausable swap deal. Usually swap deals sound like pure shit, but this suits everyone.

The more I consider this, the more I hope it's true.

Would definitely suggest we were likely to land Hojlund - can't imagine we'd go through with the loan deal if they refuse to sell us Hojlund. And it would really cushion the blow for me as regards 'losing' Greenwood, if we can replace him with another highly rated young striker.

And, as others have pointed out, if it's just a loan then either he struggles to rediscover the form he had before - in which case he's no huge loss. Or he has a good season, in which case we can either recall him (if we're 'allowed' to) or it would increase the transfer fee we could receive for him.

Maybe those 47 goals could've won the PL
