How did Rashford make his name….by Van Gaal giving him a chance and he has done pretty damn well, this kid needs to be given a chance on the big stage also and I think he would do brilliant. Get him in.

Depending on the ownership maybe and kanes future plans but I just don't see him as a January type signing he will either stick or twist big contract or move now and levy wins.

So don't even see him running contract down

I can't work out if a deal for a striker is dependent on player sales,my gut feeling is no as reckon budget is around £125-£150m

Onana £45m
Mount £55m
Hojlund £45m

The more I look at this I see no reason to be excited. I'd honestly rather we brought Ivan Toney and struggled through till January with Rashford, Garnacho and Antony maybe Martial when he's fit.
When Toney was Hojlunds age he was in League One not outscoring Hojlunds tally from this season just gone and has got 1 international appearance to his name this year where as Hojlund has 6 in 6 already. It would be nice to sign a forward with talent that could explode for us over the next few seasons and grow with a lot of our good young players. But you’d rather sign a guy who’s banned for half the season?

get it done

him, onana and mount ticks a few boxes at least, even if it's not the perfect 3.

Yes and there are probably hundreds of players who have scored more goals than Toney did at that age. What percentage of them do you think will go on to become as good a Premier League player as Toney is right now?

I'm not against signing young prospects and nothing against Hoijlund. We just need someone who we know can do the job and Toney is the only one I can see who I reckon we can realistically buy. Toney doesn't have many international appearences because the best striker in the world starts meaningless friendlies under Southgate.

I'm afraid the fact Hoijlund scored a Hat-Trick against Finland doesn't put him over Toney for .e.

I think @massey s idea is not bad. Having the option of Tony in January could be a good thing if Rasmus doesnt explode right away. If Rasmus hits the ground running there might be no need for Toney though, especially if Martial is still here by then.
I am certain Kane will end up in Munich.

Well apparently that and whatever else they see in him puts him over Toney for ETH and the recruitment team so it's all a bit of a moot point really isn't it.

I'm also sick to death of us not signing players of his ilk then wondering why we didn't bother when they inevitably change clubs for triple the price a few seasons from now. Granted it may not happen with him but it's happened many times, Caicedo is about to be the latest one.

As is 90% of the stuff talked about on here during the summer. All good fun though.

I imagine Toney's ban is dissuading a lot of clubs from going for him, probably us too. I just think if we buy a 19 year old striker he very well might take a few months to settle in anyway so unsure of what is lost by going for the player who is significantly better at this point.

Not going through the Caicedo thing AGAIN

Honestly if Toney didn't have his ban i'd be very surprised if we weren't in for him, even if I think Hojlund's ceiling is (potentially) far higher. Hard to reach his kind of numbers in the Prem and at his age of 27 I think it's a good age if we'd get him on the cheap.. In this striker market we currently find ourselves in with Brentford holding out for 40 mill for Raya, I don't think they'd sell Toney for as cheap as we might think though.

Not cheap but I reckon if people are saying Kane is 100m then Toney with half the season ban would probably be similar numbers to what is quoted for Hoijlund. Is what Hoijlund will offer us for 3 months worth missing out on a (currently) far superior player? Not for me.

That's clearly not the decision the club have taken though so we will see I suppose.

Sorry I meant like if there was no ban and he was able to play from the summer, think they'd ask for more than we'd all think personally. What's for sure is the striker market is horrendous and regardless of United tax they all seem to be double the price of what they might actually be worth. I'm not one to give props to the dealers at United but if they can pull off a good forward signing this summer at a decent price i'd have to tip my hat to them

Hopefully we find a decent stop gap.

If not then I'd be shocked if Garnacho-Rashford-Antony doesn't do just as well as Rashford-Hoijlund-Antony for 3 months.

Considering Hoijlund is a 19 year old without much senior football and would be on his first season there is little guarantee he offers us much for the first couple of months.

You're bloody right about that. There aren't even that many "slightly past it" strikers that can come in and do a job. I blame Spain and Pep for making the false 9 so fashionable for a bit whilst this current generation were growing up.

We wait. I think it’s a mistake to view this as “spunking 60m is no big deal because we can just spend more later if it doesn’t work”.

Maybe we play with a false 9. Or We return in January when the new owners are in. Our global network of scouts surely have other names in their lists.

Does Hojland start if we sign him, or is he going to be given time to adapt? Are we coming back for Kane next year?
Did you see our striking situation last season?
If he's fit to walk, he's starting.

If he's our main striker target, why didn't we seek to wrap this up first instead of Mount and Onana? Either our budget is bigger than we thought, or we expect more funds to come in soon from new owners? If not, it would be quite reckless seeing as Striker is our biggest gap (along with GK)

The main thing is to try and get business done before Pre-Season. Ours doesn't start for another 5 weeks.

I seriously doubt the papers know what our transfer budget is - they are guessing.

If United are convinced that Hojlund can become a 30 goal a season striker with us then I'll be happy for them to gamble on a younger unproven striker

I hope it's not just a "well he's good enough for now" signing

He’s the one we seem to want. I would be worried if it was later in the window, but going with “oh well he’s good enough” doesn’t really make sense this early on imo.
