Yeah we also need a keeper. But as someone said in another thread which I forgot which one cash is actually our problem not FFP. So we could borrow some or like a poster said above sell a couple players, which we absolutely should, then use that money to buy a new keeper I think. Worst case we still have Henderson. I didn't follow him lately but he was not bad when he was here imo.
That’s the trouble we’re having though, we don’t know how to sell players or we’re struggling to sell players because we’ve put them on such high wages that no one wants to offer them the same or can afford to offer it them. We just need a complete overhaul in the transfer team and bring in people who have a clue what to do.

Hopefully Mount deal will be done soon so we can start working on the next transfer.

I'm pretty sure the people taking care of the transfer dealings aren't the ones involved in the finishing touches of an agreed transfer.

I dont much rate Whitwell. It feels like his only sources are at the club, which means hel only tweet out the narrative they want him to write, rather what the actual situation might be.

For example recently he said we don't have enough money for Onana. I don't buy that. But I do think he's been briefed to write that because it helps our negotiations on the fee.
He's the Man Utd correspondent. Who else do you think he should have as sources? Plus he's not been in the game as long as someone like Mitten who'll have sources all over.

Ornstein, DiMarzio, Romano and similar aren't limited to one club so they'll offer you a different view.

That's my point. Journalists with links away from one source or one party will invariably be able to provide a more accurate picture of what's going on.

If anything is going on at the club - Mitten/Luckhurst and Whitwell are your guys. But also, if the club want to put out a narrative, the same people are your guys. You wont always get the actual picture of what is happening.

I have absolutely zero idea how good or talented this kid is. Is there anyone on here whose watched him enough to form a reasonable opinion on him.

Most of what I see is hunches and opinions formed from watching highlights.
A regular watcher of Italian football on another forum I'm on doesn't think he's ready for a Man Utd move. He needs at least another season before he can make the move.

Yeah, seemingly going through a bit of a lull of world class CF's at the moment. Guess things in football changes quickly and 2-3 could develop in no time.

Yeah missing out on Haaland was huge

Looking at his highlights I get the same feeling too. My worry from his highlights is that he doesn't look like he'll be a reliable scorer in the PL anytime soon. We need an instant supply of goals and I fear that could put too much pressure on him.

He seems to hold up the ball well and run the channels but he looks like he needs a lot of time to get his shot off and that's impossible in the PL.

It would be fine if he was to be the understudy of another more mature striker. He's not ready to be the main man here. It would be far from ideal both for us and for him. A lot of pressure on a United #9.

So who can we REALISTICALLY sign that can take the pressure off his shoulders

Putting potential fees aside for one moment and purely looking at it on football merit, who do we like better - Kolo Muani or Højlund?

Tricky to answer because aren’t they different types of strikers but could be wrong. Probably comes down to who fits best what system Erik is looking to implement

I don't know tbh. I've personally had enough of stop gap signings at the striker position. Zlatan, Cavani, Ighalo, Weghorst. The concerning thing is they've gotten worse over time.

I'd rather we just went out there and bought an established striker but of course that doesn't seem possible with our FFP limitations.

Yeah sadly takeover not being sorted has put paid to us being able to go all in for Kane/Osimhen

Our lack of wriggle room regarding FFP is even worse than I first thought if this Kieran Maguire tweet is to be believed:

“Some have contacted me re why Manchester United FFP issues given PL limit is £105m loss over 3 years. That's not quite the case, the limit is £15m PLUS up to £90m in equity investment by owners. The Glazer family have only put in £0m in those 3 years so allowable loss still £15m”

Quite apart from the amusing way he refers to
£0m it really makes my blood boil what awful owners the Glazers have been.

They have caused damage it will even take Jassim years to put right unfortunately

Explain this for the idiots like me in the room.

To get extra breathing room on the normal 15m premier league loss limit, owners are allowed to invest 90m of their own money to make it 105m... Ours have invested 0m.

I think people underestimate the size of the task. We are probably a decade of transfer windows away from being able to compete on anywhere near a level playing field with City, and similar timeframe in terms of training facilities, stadium, football administration and academy. Years of underinvestment need addressing in all areas of the club.

Yeah they definitely do

Have to sell to be able to. Our refusal to take the required loss to get rid of garbage after overpaying them is why we are having to choose. £25m-£30m for Maguire and £10m-£15m for Fred would have given us around £40m extra to work with by now.
They do that and fans will be complaining about selling cheap.

Never knew this.

FFP is an excuse. It really isn't as much of a hindrance as they're making out. It's nowhere near a point where the max we can spend is £100m all in.

The real problem is the Glazers. They're reluctant to release any more funds while the sale is still ongoing.
This is accurate. FFP is a joke. Our revenue is a third larger than Chelsea, yet they’ve spent 600m in 12 months, offloaded very few players and haven’t had FFP sanctions…

For those of you lapping up what the Glazers feed you, just remember that they have no interest in re-capitalizing the club because they are about to sell it. Spend as little as possible, juice profits and get a better exit.

We can spend a maximum of £15m in losses to be FFP compliant. I suggest you do the math.

I don’t see why we don’t just feck all these clubs trying to fleece us just because we’re United off and get Felix on loan from Atletico for the season as he showed last season with Chelsea that he can play well in the PL and it’d help us both money wise and FFP wise, maybe £15 million for a seasons loan with a £60 million option to buy and 100% of his wages then go for Kane on a free next season IF he doesn’t go abroad this summer.

Maybe Felix doesn't have what ETH wants in his striker? Like I feel like we say we should get this player or that player but you have to figure the reason we aren't is because we prefer other options and feel other options fit. We shouldn't just be shovelling signings into the team because we think we know best

Surely he can’t be intended as our main striker? Is he even at the level of Alvarez, who is understudy to Haaland?

Not a CF. Doesn't reliably score goals despite being at the point in his career now where he should be. Only marginally less shite for Chelsea last season than the rest of their forwards were.
